There are some videos on RU-vid that compare benchmarks of the m3 iMac and it definitely does a great job. It might not be an M3 MAX MacBook Pro performance but it’s a solid computer. I wouldn’t say that it’s only for “light task”. I have an M1 Air and I use Davinci Resolve 18.5 all the time to edit 4K videos. I guarantee the M3 iMac can handle Davinci Resolve or any other video editing software just fine. Again… it might not be as fast as a MacBook Pro with a M3 MAX but it looks to do a great job according to the benchmarks. I have built many computers for myself over the years so I’m no Apple fan boy but please don’t over exaggerate the negatives. It’s a more than capable computer for sure.
Thanks for the comment. It is not my intention to focus more on negatives. But I want buyers to be aware the shortcomings. Apple being apple, no one wants to buy something that doesn't meet their expectations. You are right that this is a capable machine, like all apple silicon machines. Best NVMe drives can get from 3 to 7.5gbps data transfer rate in ideal situations. Though the drives can access data fast, still the bottleneck is the interface, like PCIe, Thunderbolt, USB-C etc. Internal transfer rates are always fast. Best idea is to let the internal devices and RAM to use OS, Apps while storing the data in external drives, so your internal drives don't fill up fast.
You can do it. But it is limited by the interface, Thunderbolt and usb 4 are limited upto 40gb per second. This will be good enough for average use. But would not match internal transfer speed. Still it is usable. Best idea is to have the app inside the internal drive, save every thing else in external drive. This way you don't run out of space in internal drive.
Sometimes we are better off buying previous generation in the market places,. As there's no future for intel macs, M1 machines can be a bargain. Everyone will agree about the lunacy of apple's pricing and upgrades. It is a big rip-off. Thanks for the comment.
For my use this computer works very well. I am now 66y old. I was a big time gamer since the mid 1980's. ( from 2000 to 2018 mostly online games like the Everquests. Wow etc ) Now i just do surfing / videos and the odd game on Apple Arcade. I also pretty much replaced gaming with language learning. I recently upgraded everything. 24" iMac 16g. iPad Pro(m2). Macbook Air (m2). Apple Watch Ultra2. Airpods pro gen 2. The only thing i wish is that the iMac was available in 27". I did consider the Mac mini or studio, but for my use i figured those would be over kill.

As a Mac user since 2009 (27” iMac and another in late 2014, both of which I SO LOVED, I have to say that you are RIGHT ON about the MANY shortcomings of the new, highly vaunted and extremely limited new iMac 24” system which Apple is currently soaking people for. I was gifted one at Christmas and would never have accepted it had I known the frustration I was letting myself in for. I am a power user and always spec up any system which I purchase but this was a surprise FOR SURE.! And I had no input. To say I hate the system would be the kindest thing I could say as in truth, I really want to throw it VERY, VERY FAR AWAY. And now, in order to have a system which will do what I need, I have to go get a MAC STUDIO AND STUDIO DISPLAY. But this time, I will use my own money and spec it up as I need. Of course, my house payments might suffer……..please do not also become just another$$$$ for Apple! ARGH.
What specs is your iMac? My 2019 iMac bit the dust and I know I need Mac Studio, but it’s expensive. Thought about getting an iMac to hold me until the next generation of Mac Studio comes out and I’ve saved up enough money.
For what I do, Mac nini does wonders. In my opinion, Mac Studio is for pros who depend on it to make money. If you do and can claim in taxes, that's the way to go. Otherwise Mini can manage. I made a similar video on Studio too. Thanks for both for the comments. Happy Mac computing.
I seen a few videos on RU-vid that did benchmarks with the new iMac M3 and even compared it to the “powerhouse” 2020 iMac. What exactly are you not happy with? My wife and I are looking into the iMac and the Studio. I know the iMac would be just fine for her telahealth and notes that she does but I do video and photo editing and if my M1 MacBook Air can handle these task I figured the M3 would be even better.
Best solution is not to buy any of these trash from Apple. They need to be taught a lesson. - They are supposed to add ports but force users to buy adapters (and carry them around). - A jump in just 8GB RAM or 128GB SSD costs a fortune while those can be bought very cheap. Basically trashes.
WARNING: 8gb is not enough for OSX, it will use the SSD hard as extended memory and shorten the SSDs life. So get 16gb RAM. . With heat being a non issue, and dockingstations, a Macbook Air M1 can connect with two external monitors. So the Air might be the better choice. I bought mine used of course, 16gb, 1tb (500gb for music). But for most cases even 16gb, 512gb might be enough - with a dockingstation and external TBs drives that is.
Thank you, for providing an excellent summary of the pros and cons of Apple's colorful 24-inch iMac desktop computers. During my first two decades (during the 1990's and 2000's) as an Apple home computer user, I only picked-up All-in-One desktops a 15-inch 5400, white 20-inch G4 iMac, glossy white 20-inch G5 iMac, and glossy white 24-inch Intel iMac. However, starting in 2010, I now only buy "mac mini" models and pair them with an Apple monitor (smile...smile).

With all the M-1, M-2, M-3, and now M-4, changes Apple, Inc. is doing, I decided three years ago to, just wait until the Spring of 2025, before buying a new Apple desktop system. However, if buying today, I would pick-up a M-2 "mac mini" pro model and pair it with an Apple 32-inch XDR 6K monitor. But, since Apple is a bit tricky over the next 9-months who knows, they may come out with both a better "mac mini" model along with a new display (smile...smile).
I bought the base model M1 MacMini (8GB ram and 250GB SSD) a couple of years ago for $500 on sale. The upgrades were ridiculously overpriced so I bought a aftermarket expansion module and put a 500GB SSD in that, that also had additional ports (the base model Mini has just a few USB ports. That machine is fast (be aware the base model M2's have a VERY slow SSD).I use the internal 250 GB just for the OS and program files - the external disk folds all my documents and music library. I don't think I'd like running photoshop on this but for most tasks it's more than enough power and that 8GB of ram has aleays been enough..

I'm still using my magic keyboard that I bought in 2009 (not a typo, 2009) that I bought with my first ever Mac. I don't have a mac anymore, but I still use this magic keyboard with my lenovo laptop when it's docked on my desk and to this day it's still the best feeling keyboard I've ever used. I'll get the current model of the magic keyboard one day because it's rechargeable, which is convenient. As of right now, I just use rechargeable batteries. 2009. 15 years.
@@letgeorgedoit Too much crowded , i was feeling uncomfortable because of the thumbnail that's why i clicked this video to tell you btw who knows maybe making cursed thumbnail can make your videos stand out more just a blessing disguised as cursed , try to experiment with it
Excellent and informative video. My family's main PCs have been running Windows forever, but I can't stand the crap experience that we've had using Windows 10 over the last few years. Terrible buggy OS. My son's gaming system I built for him uses Win 11 which works for him, but I'm going to switch to the Mac ecosystem for my wife's main PC and using your recommendations would last her many years of great usage with her average workloads. I personally use Linux distros for many years and have virtually zero issues. Keep up the beneficial work! God bless.
Looks like a good dock, I didn’t see a vertical dock before. I have one that sits on top or below the Mac mini but it slides around if you try to plug in a usb or sd card. Will have to look into this option!
