Saw Danzig about ten years ago in San Diego. Did an awesome full set, best was probably when he did "How the Gods Kill". So powerful. Then, show was supposed to be over, and he comes back out and says "This is what you fuckers have been waiting 30 years for.... DOYLE!" and then Doyle walks out on stage, and they do a whole original Misfits set. Probably the best show I've ever seen in my whole life (and I've seen hundreds). But the funnier story.... is about 15 years before that, I was at comic con walking around, and saw him sitting there in a booth, selling his comic book. He'd just come out with it, and the comic scene didn't really seem to know who he was. My friends were scared shitless to talk to him (because he's fucking Danzig), so I just walked up, introduced myself and talked about his comic. He shook my hand, introduced himself as Glenn, and we just talked comics for like 5 minutes, was super nice, and I was looking at his table and there were a whole bunch of free passes to the strip club "Cheetahs" sitting there. Apparently the owner had stopped by and was a fan, and left him a bunch of them, so he signed one for me and gave it to me. I never used it, still have it, and have to say that was one of the weirdest but most interesting encounters ever. I've heard people say that Danzig was a dick in real life, or that he wasn't big on talking to his fans or something, but my experience was totally different. I think most people are just intimidated or would hound him with dumb questions like "are you ever gonna get back with the Misfits" a thousand times. I just talked about comic books with him and he was cool as hell, so I offer that up as a story to counter whatever narrative about him is out there.
If I can't understand what the vocalist is saying then what is the point! The music is good. But for me the vocal is just as important as the drums, guitar, or bass. And if one instrument is shitty then the whole thing becomes shitty. Just saying!
the vocals are an instrument like guitars and bass...the growls are equivalent to guitar distortion... if you felt drawn to the music, you would seek out the lyrics... i hear NKOTB are releasing new material with cleaner vocals for your enjoyment...
I like a lot of the music but like I said in my original post. The vocal is just as important as the guitar, bass or drums. If you have an excellent vocalist and the guitar, bass or drums suck and are bad it destroys the final outcome! But I do enjoy a lot of the riffs. But with the gibberish garble one can only take so much! Metal will always rule! But the death metal seen prevents people from exploding other grate metal artists such as SAXON, or DIO or Dragon Force plus the countless others! The fact is guttural vocals are a good effect of done properly. But for a vocalist to use it all the time is just a sign that the person can't sing. Look at Arch Enemy. Clean vocals from someone who can actually sing. And then uses gutteral technique as an accent. But if it's just blaa blaa blaa all the time it sucks and has no value. I put it on the suck level the same as rap!
This is awesome one of my favorite noises as a music lover a crowd that knows all the lyrics and screams them louder than the performance everyone enjoying the moment love it
