Ham radios and shortwave radios are both types of radio that use the shortwave band of frequencies. The shortwave band is a range of radio frequencies between 3 and 30 MHz. Shortwave radios are typically used to listen to international broadcasts, while ham radios can be used for both listening and transmitting.

The ft70d is a great radio but the battery life is disgraceful!! Come on yaesu, for all tht money its poor. A 1995 nokia lasts longer on a full charge. The VX6 is the better choice.
I have had one for a while. Not a huge fan of it. In the home, prefer my sdr sticks (7) to monitor. However, gps does well when travel. Best way, is if knkw route, add what want to favorites list and edit favorites to hold systems and channels longer than the default 2 sec. If use main database, with the gps, cannot set those delays.
great radio! only problem is the internal speaker...is NOT good...I have the FTDX10 too, and has a better speaker...no big deal anyway I use an external speaker

I now own one and it puts out a solid 9 watts. Easy to program manually. Good audio report at 32 miles with white noise into a repeater and line of sight to a mountain top. Not too shabby for a baofeng. My Baofeng GT3WP, will not even make the trip to the repeater on high power.
I have a G5RV full size and I wanted to know what the best length of coax should be? is there a minimum or maximum length' should i use a Balun? many thanks
Hi, I'm so sorry I did not get back to I run other RU-vid channels and it is really hard for me to keep up with the comments and to comment on every one. I'm sure you may have your answer by now but hope that I'm right, But my guess is 50 to 75 feet (15 to 23 meters) from your radio setup to the point where the G5RV's feed line terminates. If I'm wrong I'm sure I will be corrected by someone who sees this lol The balun at the feed point should effectively match the impedance of the antenna to your coaxial cable and is recommended. I hope this helps. And sorry for not reaching out sooner.
I have had this radio for almost 2 months. I have not experienced ANY of the problems that have been posted in the previous comments. I have heard in discussions with other actual.owners of this radio that initially there were radios that did have issues. Sangean has corrected most if not all of them, including the volume on sideband. There is a slight drop in volume but the ability to pull in sideband is awesome. I live in a brick house in an urban neighborhood and I do most of my listening without an extrrnal antenna. This radio has exceeded expectations for sure.
I have the FT-70 radio, and it cannot maintain battery power when unused. This makes the radio useless as a backup radio and grab and go emergency radio. It sits on the shelf.
I Got the SDS100 in October 2023, What a Great Handheld Scanner. Now I'm going to Get the SDS200 for my Desk Top Scanner. Take Care and HAPPY NEW YEAR in Scanning*******
how can i listen short medium waves in v3??I use the sharp program and antenna the aor 7000 and I receive from 25 MHz and above what moment ..what is wrong ??
Hi, I have a question in the anytone at-778uv. There is no audio during transmission. Just dead key carrier. Basically running transmitting (dead key only) and receiving perfect. I tried it on different channels lower and upper and same thing. Is there a mic gain or a mic mute for this radio? I read the whole manual and there is nothing was mentioned. Any takes and thank you.

Thanks for sharing this video. Very interesting. What's the right scanner (digital) to monitor all transmissions and not only Police frequencies? Thanks for your time!
You are welcome, well if you want to go all out it depends if you need it for portable or home use. The Uniden BCD436HP is my favorite because I can just go anywhere with it. But it depends on your needs.
Because the police department in my city is always killing people, I need to know will this work in Las Cruces N.M. on Las Cruces Police Department? If it does? I'm buying.
As long as they are not using decrypted signals will not work. No scanner will pick up decrypted signals unless you have the Kay. But if your area is digital signals you should be fine.
Your welcome just make sure you check with someone in your area that would know about your local police department because I wouldn't want you to invest into something that will not work for you. 🙂
The Yaesu VX-6R does not have dual receive as the video states it has a single reviewer nor can it do cross band repeat. As for as the FT 70D in reference to digital modes. There is Yaesu C4FM , D-Star that Icom and Kenwood uses and DMR that Anytone, Alinco and a few other Chinese manufacturer's use. And non of these digital modes are compatible with each other. So you have to research what digital mode is popular in your area before purchasing any digital mode radio. There is no radio made that will do all three digital modes. So depending on what brand of radio you purchase you would be limited to the digital mode that radio supports. There are Hot Spots that can give you the ability to cross mode these digital modes via VOIP. This video is very misleading and not very accurate!!
I own FT-70D and VX-7R. Both good handhelds that I highly recommend. But I wouldn’t rely on the information in this video, it’s more sales pitch than technical review.
The VX6 has a facility which nobody mentions as it's illegal. If it's been modded you'll find it can not only receive the Civil Airband, but transmit on the band too, am or fm. It can receive all military frequencies including the the military air band, but doesn't transmit on them.
