My name is Shavika Maharaj, I am a recent graduate from the University of Toronto with an H.BSc focused on Biodiversity Conservation and Environmental Studies. Through my travels and interactions with various people I have and continue to notice that we as a species on planet Earth have disconnected ourselves from nature. We no longer see its importance and value, and how are we expected to if everything we get is conveniently packaged and made available at our finger tips. Our clothes, our food, the drugs we use all come from this earth’s resources. We could not have achieved the development we witness today without the resources from the environment surrounding us. This evident disconnection has inspired conservation connected, altering my vision to promote an improved connection with the natural world and thereby increasing appreciation, which I hope, in turn will lead to the ability for us to nurture nature.
