I have a Z42Li coming. I could have had it already, but they tried delivering a 2-year-old display unit. I told them to put it back on the truck. I cannot fit a Z54Li through my gates. Can't wait!

The lawnmowers are green after we do some devastating things to get the lithium. I wish someone would develop something better that isn’t so harmful to the environment.

Hey Paul, you still liking it? Thinking about taking the plunge and getting one, I need to cut 3 acres on it, dont know if you have any experience with that?
@paulexplainsit
@paulexplainsit Год назад
It's been a few months since I last used it, as we headed into the winter months. I'm probably going to have to start cutting again in March. It will have no problem cutting 3 acres. I have the blades and vehicle running at the medium speed, and it still has plenty of battery power left. The only niggle I have, is with the joystick controller. It's a little too stiff, and if I were to redesign it, I would have two pedals - one for power, and the other for temporary brake, while the joy stick controls direction. With all of this tied into one control, it can be a little cumbersome at times, especially reversing into the parking spot in the workshop. Other than this, which is minor really, I like the power it has, and it can tow all the tools I used on the JD before. I can even remove the deck really easily if I want to, which means it can also go over some rougher ground than the JD could.

@@paulexplainsit thanks for the reply. I’ve watched so many videos and read so many reviews about it and couldn’t make up my mind. My big issues was I read some reviews on it not being able to cut 3 acres but I don’t know what settings those people were running it on.
@paulexplainsit
@paulexplainsit Год назад
@@caseypage5314 I think I saw the same review. I think it missed a couple of points for the headline. In my experience (I have 3.5 acres of grass), this machine will cut more than 3 acres in one session if the blades and wheels are on the low setting (which is still pretty fast). These are the settings I had during my video and it's a good looking cut. If you don't fully charge beforehand and/or run the blades at high speed, then it will use more power for a shorter period.
@caseypage5314
@caseypage5314 Год назад
@@paulexplainsit I don’t know if you have tried this yet, but I was reading on Ryobi’s website that they suggest wheels on fast and blade on low to max the amount of acreage you can cut.
@caseypage5314
@caseypage5314 Год назад
@@paulexplainsit Just got mine this weekend, it didnt make it the full three acres, but I am going to try and mess with the settings a bit more, went with blades low and wheels medium. I agree with the stick being too stiff, kinda hard to hold lines.

Will this be capable of mowing my 3 acre field. The grass is tall and dense. About 3 ft
@paulexplainsit
@paulexplainsit Год назад
Probably not on its own - otherwise it will simply push the 3ft grass down flat. You'll need something like a Brush Hog behind a small tractor to make the first rough cut. Then this "lawn mower" will be able to finish it nicely.

Are you able to mow in the rain? Wasn't sure since you said you can't use a hose to clean the deck. It would be useless to lawn care professionals if it can't get wet.
@JC-nq3ux
@JC-nq3ux 2 года назад
Have you taken the deck off and have you cleaned the deck? What is the best way to do it?
@paulexplainsit
@paulexplainsit 2 года назад
Not yet. In the video, this is its maiden mow. With this 54" deck, and described in the manual, there are two latches at the back and a hook at the front, which you release after disconnecting the 3 motor cables. You can then slide out the deck to clean it manually with a brush and damp cleaning cloth - you can't use a water hose, naturally. The process looks straightforward without tools. The alternative, is to use a mower lift, to just lift the front-end of the mower, but you won't have the same access, and the swivel wheels on the front make it tricky. I'll record the deck removal process when I do it, and share it on my channel.

@@paulexplainsit Thanks ! I receive mine in 1 week. I also plan on doing some more research about adding a snow blade as well. It doesn't seem to have a bagger, I'm used to bagging my lawn about twice/three times a year. How well is the mulcher and do you see having a bagger as an advantage. I noticed the 54" does not have a bag attachment option nor a bag chute button. let me know your thoughts.
@paulexplainsit
@paulexplainsit 2 года назад
@@JC-nq3ux I just received the mulcher kit. It comes with 3 new thin blades, and a couple of internal baffles and the output cover. I read the reviews on the blades though, and apparently they get damaged easily and there are no replacement options for just the blades only, so I'm not sure yet about installing them. I'm thinking I might just leave the current dual blades on, and see how the baffles do without changing the blades. I'm also wondering if I can get away with just covering the chute. On my older John Deere riding mower, I have a set of mulching blades which basically have teeth on the back side to throw the grass back up into the blades, but Ryobi doesn't appear to be offering that option yet. No bagger option is available as far as I can tell. I think I would be stopping every 5 minutes to empty it anyway.

Good luck with it I’ve been using the 40v lawn tools in 3 years three packs have failed, two motors have failed so I personally don’t have confidence in the reliability of Ryobi lithium and we have a Tesla EV and believe in the technology. Also the mower is significantly more expensive than a comparable gas mower, like 45/50% more expensive.
@paulexplainsit
@paulexplainsit 2 года назад
You're right. I am hopeful that the new 80v suitcase style batteries hold out well, but I also completed the registration too, to ensure they are all covered for 5 years, including each battery, as well as the mower itself. Since they are so new, it will be interesting to see how they handle any failures in the mower itself, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Hopefully by then, it will have been around long enough for their support network to be fully trained up and in place. We will see.
