Great video. I love saddlebreds. I have never been able to afford a horse but i did take lessons and did show other peoples horse's along with being a groom for many years. As it is many grooms and others that are behind the scenes never get noticed for their hard work and the love they put into these horses but it is worse when you never get acknowledged for all your work because of your race. I am glad this video was made because the history of any subject should be completed and accurate no matter what.

Ive had various breeds, Morgan, saddlebred, quarter horse, & my current, thoroughbreds. Each breed has its good points. Capabilities, and beauty. The past years I've only stayed with thoroughbreds or half breds. I jump/foxhunt. The thoroughbreds/halfbreds have the stamina, & the courage to face any obstacle. 4-5 hrs of cross country galloping/jumping. I can't fault others breeds as I know the capabilities of each I respect each breed. And it depends on what discipline you're interestec in.

My parents bought my best mare, Crescent's Peachie, grand daughter of King's Genius, from Grey Barham at Sandy Knolls Farm in Ohio. I will never forget him. i knew Junior C and trained under Stanley Jackson of Berea, Ohio. These were wonderful men. I rode or knew of some of these horses also. IIt makes me so proud to see this. They made sure I was safe as a young girl. Fine men.

truth be told his mother was raped as a slave by the slave master he had 2 other siblings by the slave master , the white slave master was married with 5 other kids , tom was never free , its so much more because what they tell you is a one sided story they want to tell their way , mexico mo still is racist and they have redlined and gentrified lafayette and now garfield wiping out the negros that lived on those sides , the ground is contaminated with chemicals and most negros have cancer now they are trying to cover it up

I believe the Cleveland Mounted Police ride saddlebreds. Bays and chestnuts. It's so nice to see them in the city. Even non-horse people coment on their beauty and grace.

I am so thankful to own one of these amazing horses. I only wish I could breed her; continuing this amazing lineage she comes from. Her refined grace and movements; producing two amazing foals. I am, again... truly blessed.

Saddlebred are the BEST!! Ive ridden arabians, thoroughbreds, quarter horses etc, in trail, jumping, barrel racing, pole bending, etc and NOTHING compares to a Saddlebred for their obedience, going forward, trainability, looks, athleticism, and attitude. Wont own/ride anything else. Fabulous horse!

The problem is the showing of these beautiful horses has been a horrorific horror SORING, a barbaric practice. All for blue ribbons. & greed. Allow these, and the Tennessee Walkers be shown naturally. No props. No cruelty to them. It's an ugly business showing these breeds. Yes I'm in the horse world, & been behind the scenes. Saw the mistreatment to these animals. Shame. Keep them natural. Their natural gaits are lovely to see.

The sad part is soring of the show horses. It's cruel. These are beautiful animals & don't deserve this ugly practice.

soring is done on Tennessee Walkers --- NOT -- repeat NOT, American Saddlebreds -- I wish this misinformation would die -- shame on YOU Tennessee Walker "Big Lick" people !! You've shamed 2 great breeds -- one by abuse, and the other by association and misinformation

Unfortunately, you are confusing Saddlebreds with Big Lick Tennessee Walking Horses. The Saddlebred is a trotting breed and if they were sored, could not perform the trot. While some individuals do gait, by and large the breed is a trotting breed and if they show at a singlefoot gait? They must also show at the trot.

THE best honor of my life was to work side by side with STANLEY EDWARDS WHO GLORIA HIS wife, who was also President of Ohio American Saddlebreds for many many many years!!!my name is Kendal Kessler-McLamara He told me after I had to stop William Woods due to tra gic a car wreck.Stanley also Stanley was also awarded in Arizona (largest) Arabain show many years before we met as the trainer who was awarded the TRAINER WHO TRAINED MORE HORSES OF EVERY BREED !!!! THE trophy( taller ) then me, I am 5 '8 !!!!!there were more trophy`s then I have ever seen. And I went pro. At age 15 . I loved Stanley more then my own family in Wis. I do not believe that I can ever put into words how much I loved him I got to meet the Greatest White trainers Helen Crabtree, Don Haris Tom Moore Tom Frebee Lonnie Lavrey (who) by the way Stanley taught him from kid up I can say with all my heart I truely say that those were the best years of my life, Stanley would tell me(as A trainer myself )I wood never have gotten to ride as many wonderful Saddlebreds as he put me on, his favorite saying was Kendal if you ever go thru this world again ask GOD if he could, please use my rump as the soles of my boots!! We really lost a great HORSEMAN, who was told over and over no one could gait a horse like STANLEY EDARDS!!!!!I I love you Stanley, see you up stairs love, Kendal McLamara(STANLEYS STABLES WAS LOCATED, IN WADSWORTH, OHIO

I never see one for sale that’s a trail horse 🤷🏼‍♂️. They are always big money fancy horses. Does nobody just ride them for pleasure? I always had Tennessee Walkers because I gotta have a gaited horse. Never could find a American Saddlebred unless it was some fancy show horse that rides around in a circle 🤦‍♂️

My saddlebred was a show horse, turned brood mare. She was only familiar with the 'arena' world until I obtained her. She was scared of everything. You see the average saddlebred is extremely smart. But also can be a live wire. How I trained her to be such an amazing trail horse, was make sure the horse respects you, and trust you, as well as constant reaffirming training. Once she respected me, well that alone was a game changer. Doesn't always come quickly. Figure around 18 months, is what's considered the average time frame for your horse to trust ya. But talk about the best horse!!! I'm so very lucky.

Thank you for the upload. There are still a lot of AA trainers in the pacer, big lick, racking, and saddle-seat genres. Because of the regions that these equitation styles dominate, blacks' contributions are sometimes minimized. No worries. We are progressing and I am optimistic any and every one that excel at what they do in the horse world will have fair share at the recognition.

While in college, I bought a stabled Saddlebred mare who acted really goofy when out of her stall. I had to spend at least 15 minutes in a small round ring to calm her down before I could take into the regular training ring. And she would act up badly if I headed out to the local trail. Later I moved her to my family's ranch, where she lived on a pasture with other horses. In that setting, she became a wonderful trail horse and not spooky or goofy at all. A neighbor borrowed her to ride in the Rose Parade, where she behaved quite nicely despite the commotion of the parade activities. A while later I took her to a different boarding stable, where some of her old habits emerged again. Clearly she did not have happy memories of stable life. Gradually I got her settled down again. We did a variety of riding at that stable, including low jumping.
