Join me for all things sewing, quilting and machine embroidery. Welcome! I love using sewing and embroidery feet, machines, software and tools that are available. I also freely admit I love the instruction books and manuals that come with them. This is a place where I can take what I have learned and bring it to you by demonstrating the techniques you need to create the projects you love. Enjoy. You can find me on Facebook at Sew Shelly Quilts or on my webpage at www.sewshellyquilts.com. I am a BERNINA girl through and through but the techniques I am teaching can be used on many different machines.
Great video but what if you already did a backing self binding and after I did it I realized it’s a bit too small I want to add length do I trim or seam rip binding it’s so much work 😫 or do I add to the binding that’s already there I’m so upset wish I found this sooner 😵💫
Learning about my 790 Pro.....OMG finally a good explanation and example of finding the perfect 1/4 stitch. Awesome foot and will use it for every quilt made.
Hi I’m have a he B790 Not the pro But can I use this square hoop and design a n my machine What is the square hoop called with the clamps Want to order it
Oh gosh Shelly! You just saved my Handi Quilter Capri from ending up in the dumpster! I have been struggling with this since I purchased it 2.5 years ago! I have been to the shop multiple times and they sent me new hardware and displays! It's been a night mare trying to get a good stitch that I can be proud to give someone. This changed EVERY thing! Thank you!
Oh my Shelly, I really learned so much from this video. I bought the medium clamp hoop for myself at Christmas and it’s never been out of the box. I am really excited to finish a quilt I just made for one of my grandsons and this video will help me finish it perfectly! Thank you so much!
I saw what the 990 can do but unfortunately I cannot afford it, so had hoped there were ways to do in the software around the appliqué… not limited to the background stippling and echoing… sigh🥲
Make sure you last stitch is still in the fabric. Lift the neelde and the foot and pull the threads on top of the fabric under the foot. Hope this helps.
Is your fabric stabilized and are you using the correct needle for the fabric? If the fabric is too soft or flimsy it could be pushed into the stitch plate. The incorrect needles, such as too large or the wrong type, could also push the fabric.
@@SewShelly Thank you for your answers. Mostly I use jersey. The fabric does not fall into the stitch plate, it is the under-grip thread that is difficult to pull out - now I have started to pull the under-grip thread from the thread spool to give some thread - it helps. I then pull the whole thing because then all the threads are loose. But the thread on top stays there and are not pulled to the back.
When you use the tool to pull the needle thread to the side it can be hard to pull. Use the tool that came with the machine and tug as hard as needed. Then cut the thread. After that when you pull the looper thread pulls the cut thread to the back. It is not usually as tigjt as the needle thrwad can be. If you have 2 or 3 needle threads it can feel like there is a lot of tension. That is fine as long as you are on top of the fabric and under the foot. Pull as hard as needed.
Thanks for another great video. This is a little off topic but is there a way To design background quilting for sound an embroidery or applique that can be done in the hoop? I hate to flatten applique by quilting over it?
The new 990 will be amazing for this! You can scan the applique project in the hoop. Send it to your V9 software to digitize the quiliting around the design and then send it back to the 990 for stitching. Really cool stuff.
Fabulous! I love my L890! Thankyou! I think i am going to do this stitching on my new QE L890, it's so nice and so much fun! Thanks again. I am a big fan of your videos.
I use whatever bobbin I want showing on the backing. I do usually match the color but not always the weight. I use invisifil or maybe a 50 weight cotton. I adjust the tension if needed to compensate for different thread weights.
I have just watched this video and given it a try. Needs a bit more work, but can someone tell me what size twin needle was used for the demo please. I used the 2.5.
I think I used a 2.5 or 3.0 in this older video. I have a brand new video, posted July 2024, that you should also watch and I use a 2mm The width of the twin needle should correspond with the size of the cording used under the pintuck and the way you want the decorative stitch to look.
This is so helpful! I've only had my machine and walking foot for a couple of months, and I've been afraid to use this foot because it looks so complicated. Now that I'm nearly finished with my first quilt, it's time to figure it out, and you've helped me immensely. Thank you so much! You've taken a lot of the fear away. I love your videos!
After watching the video re #71 foot I saw that the edge of your quilt looked finished. Today I found this video which explained it. Thanks for explaining it!
Beautifully instructed. I enjoyed spending the last two days with you at Jon's Sewing Machines in Wolcott, NY. He's a fantastic Bernina dealer. I picked up a couple of additional tips from this video. Keep them coming! Thank you.
I will buy a med clamp tomorrow. Is this a the procedure for embroidery in the hoop? It used to be so involved, how do you change thread colors, I could probably read it in the Embroidery book.
It is a great hoop. This video is showing quilting in the hoop. For most regular embroidery you will take the hoop off of the machine, hoop your project and then attach the hoop to the machine again.
