Glock mags are made with a magnesium body covered with polymer, making it very thick and reducing capacity. This is partly why Shield Arms is able to make Glock 43X /48 mags with 5 extra rounds with a flush fit base pad. They are all metal with no polymer sleeve, making them larger internally.
Great vid! New owner myself so this was very helpful. What do you think the reasons is that the gas piston rod can’t be smooth like the recoil rod? My best guess is it helps retaining (or releasing?) the right amount of gas at the right time? Just curious and trying to understand the pistol better. Also, do you have a smart and smooth way of reinstalling the recoil spring on the rod again? That’s the only part of the gun that I have to fight with.
Curious your thoughts on how many rounds we can put through them before a cleaning is necessary. Don’t want to be in the middle of a match and have a failure. Also, with irons what division you think we can compete in? I assume with optic it’s in open.
I took a class last June, and fired 1000rds without cleaning the pistol over two days. I had no issues at all during that time. For USPSA, you can compete in Limited with irons, for IDPA, you can compete in SSP and ESP. For CO, IDPA does allow the Alien, mine was approved at the State match for CO.
is the real avid a folder, or when you fold the pick down does the wrench come up? I can't fine a pocket knife type cleaning tool. What brand is your pick? Thanks, for your help.
That magazine is just like my new Steyr L9-A2 MF magazine setup. Just a different shape in the baseplate. Wonder if those would fit over? But assume they dont have the same angle.
I think the simplest solution to make racking from top easier and more normal is to add protrusions to the top of slide, maybe on the sides too. It's not a big deal with sights but looks awkward with the RDS. As for heat, they can add cuts to front of frame/slide to expose the barrel making it easier for the heat to escape.
Thanks for showing how to clean and lubricate this gun. The tip with the little container filled with BoreTec Carbon remover is very useful! Please be careful, when cleaning the piston. If you grab this tightly and are rotating this with your fingers, you easily can cut your fingertips at the extremely sharp edges even through thin rubber gloves. This happenend twice to me. Now I cover my fingers with a little cloth. I love this gun and shot several 1000 rounds with it.
buying a new car or getting this pistol....tough decision haha. Great gun none the less and a great piece of Engineering. I'm sticking to practicing with My Hellcat Pro until I can afford it. I would love to try the Alien one day😍
Nice video, I`ve got one recently ;) I want to ask if you tried to shoot with reladed ammo? I've tried today with 200 reloaded ammo and got 5 jams, maybe it's a new weapon that needs more rides, or it's so sensitive with that kind of ammo?
Nice.. I know a guy who does, and there is a certain parameter range you have to stay within, and also flat nose bullets will have a tendency to not feed properly. It is possible, but there are limitations to what you have to work with.
Do you think using the lighter recoil spring for 124gr S&B would be ok? The lighter recoil spring feeds 140gr S&B subsonic ammo well, although I ran through some problems using the standard spring for the same load.
Great video. Can you please do one on how the trigger and upside down hammer work? I can't figure out why the lower receiver protrudes so far back behind the grip. I think I can see some mechanism there, but I can't tell what that is, how that interfaces with the slide, or how the trigger trips the hammer. Thank you
It is a 15rd housing with a +2 basepad, that is what I was surprised to find. Yes the basepad indicates the mag holds 17rds, but it isn't a 17rd housing.
New sub and thanks for posting the only practical Alien videos. I am buying one tomorrow at my local FFL that has one in stock. I plan on shooting only FMJ. Any wear on the pistol? It’s been reliable?
So wear will appear internally on the frame. If you use factory ammo, you shouldn't have any issues. Flat nose 147s are a bit iffy when you load the mag fully. They could get stuck on the ramp, but when you have a mag fully loaded. Round nose 115/124/147 are no issue as factory loads. If you reload, try to use round nose bullets. They have to be a certain length to work reliably. Once again, I have only fired factory ammo and have had ZERO issues after 700rds (115/124). I don't really use 147s but they could not be as reliable with fully loaded mags.
@@beck4218 yes.. aluminum grip and steel frame.. LOK grips is the company that makes the panels for the Alien, and have made brass grips and backstrap to add additional weight if that is something you want. It adds 9oz total to the gun, also the brass grips can be purchased as standard size or as palm swells. I should do a video on the grips and back strap.
Yes, that can be done. Two pins need to be tapped out along with some screws. It isn't exactly "easy", but without parts available to replace pins or springs, I am not attempting it. One of the pins is for the trigger also.
@@LegalAlien9mm Thank you so much for your reply!! I'm guessing its the 2 pins just above the trigger guard and then the 2 screws in the front where you can screw on the compensator and so on. You its clearly not meant to just do and I don't even know it Laugo sells replacement barrels. So keep good care of the barrel so that it lasts longer.
Right.. the two pins, two screws in the front and one in the bottom of the trigger guard that goes up into the barrel. The grip module can be removed also, so that screw in the trigger guard helps brace the grip. The barrel itself is a bull barrel and is rated for over tens of thousands of rounds. One user already has 50,000 rds through one and the barrel only lost a small amount of accuracy. Wasn't enough to replace.
@@LegalAlien9mm If you use dry lube spray over the bullets. Glass the barrel Or wax or lubricate the bullets the barrel will pretty much last for ever. Its more that the do/did produce a 6inch version instead of just the 4.8 and it would have been so nice to just get a longer barrel. Take good care of it and thanks for all the fast replays!!! = )
I personally haven't.. as far as springs, some people tried AR bolt catch springs, roughly same size and not as heavy in spring rate. Those who used that spring dropped the pull weight down to about 2lbs.
There is a guy in FB saying to not overlube the Alien as it will actually cause damage. OK, how much is too much? I think I am doing about as much as you but he is claiming thin film at most. Wish Laugo would release some more info for owners.
Yes, I saw that as well.. I don't use "a lot", I put just a drop or two in the areas I mentioned, which is where you have metal on metal. In my experience, the gun dry doesn't feel good at all, it feels much better with some lube.
Does anyone know how to reverse the mag release ,Or remove the grip module ? I tried but looks like you have to remove the trigger pins which are not removable .
I looked at this myself, and yes, you have to remove the grip module. I am not 100% sure but I think the pins are removed in one direction. I haven't tried this and have been afraid to, since parts aren't available yet, Incase something goes wrong.
Alien does get dirty very quickly.. the one thing that takes time is cleaning the gas port and piston, everything else wipes up pretty easily. Alien is also very easy to break down, and doesn't really take much longer than cleaning a 1911 really.
I wouldn't goop it in there.. just in case it collects debris..I personally haven't put lube in the trigger mechanism located in the frame.. the most I would put would be 1 small drop. Ballistol won't damage the frame, I have used a bit on mine also, you can spray it in the front to help wipe up the carbon.
If I had to sort so many small things in a gun for 5k dolars.... I whould prefer to buy chinese ak47 for 100 dolars. This sill make you much more safe. Charlies defend their countries with bamboo sticks and Aks. You do not need anything else.
