Thanks for sharing. I notice a lot of ferry flights are using BIKF (Keflavik) now instead of BIRK (Reykjavik). Does BIRK have some disadvantages? It seems like the weather is usually better at BIRK and it's closer to town if you are staying the night. Fly safe!
Fantastic video .I am from El Salvador. Did you know that when Ilopango was the International Airport, aircraft like the 707 and DC-10 used to land there??? Crazy!
Flyboy Miles I am still flying but nowadays I'm a captain on the Embraer 145 at an airline. I miss ferry flying terribly but can not find the time for it.
Hi , i am thinking on doing a similar trip - what would you say is one destination you would add or deduct from your trip? was the cessna a good conformable choice?
Hi David, I am the pilot in the video. I no longer own the ferry pilot site but anyways to your question. The Cessna 207 is not a good plane to cross the ocean in. As you saw in the video it requires a LOT of modifications to make it work out. If I had to pick my ultimate single engine piston plane for crossing it would be a Cirrus SR22T with Anti Ice capabilities. In regards to destinations I think that I would have skipped Italy if possible. It was too expensive and time consuming.
Bad ass man. Has to be a lot of pucker factor crossing the North Atlantic with 1 piston motor! Much easier running a track in a heavy! Great experience you guys have now.
I really did enjoy the video, but as someone who knows nothing about flying a plane, seeing things like "ILS to BIKF" doesn't really mean a whole lot in regards to where you actually are. Are those the call signs of the airports and if so, what country/city are they in? I really am curious to know where you were stopping on the trip. Other than that, I loved the video :-)
+sgtgiggles Hi Sir, it was abbreviated to save screen space,LOL CYYR = Goose Bay, Canada BGBW = Narsasuaq, Greenland BIKF = Keflavik, Iceland EGPC = Wick, Scotland EGMC= South-End-On-Sea, London, England LIRN = Naples, Italy LGRP = Rhodes, Greece LLBG = Tel Aviv, Israel
Why is it that it is so affordable to ferry light aircraft over such distances ? Are cessna's in Israel/europe 100.000 USD more pricey (given the same age/milage) than those in the USA ? (f.i. I learned that a Harley D motor can be had for 15.000 usd, where in Europe the same thing goes for 45.000 USD).
+ODDBALL SOK In this particular case they needed a Cessna 207 which is relatively rare. It was purchased from a company in Hawaii. So another ferry pilot crossed the Pacific with it. I took it the rest of the way to Israel.
Yes my friend I'm from Brazil but I live in AL I bought a meceds for 35 k in us and my friend bought the same car but in Brazil he paid 86 k it's ridiculous the difference
I really enjoyed watching your video... A few suggestions : 1. Attach a GoPro under a wing ( with the GoPro adhesive mount - just make sure to thoroughly clean the surface with alcohol first - and then wait 48 h before using it ). You will get stunning external views and beautiful landscapes ( use 1080p with 60fps ). 2. Get a dedicated cable and record the radio communications ( you need GoPro's dedicated Skeleton housing in order to gain access to the audio port ). Take care Alon
Wow! What an 'adventure'!.. Thanks for sharing your trip! Excellently portrayed through compact transitions with an upbeat themed musical presentation that compliments the 'daring do' of your adventure!
I fly from KGAI frequently tonight I'll likely depart to KFDK haven't flown there since the new control tower was built, this evening will be a beautiful evening to fly and not hot at all by July standards in Maryland. Have many great flights and be safe!
