Omg mine has the same codes except the p1633 now my car is driving sluggish every time I come to a stop it takes off really slow then drives fine once I get going
I just ordered Motul DCTF from Amazon if anyone else is having trouble finding the right fluid. It's supposed to be top notch stuff and it was only about $35 for a pack of 2 qts. That's about the same as 1qt from Ford.
Something everyone should know is that Chevy issued a TSB and if you complain about high trans temps they will replace the TBV to the cooler 70°C one for free. If you live in a northern climate which gets cold this is what you want. The TBV delete kits are good in the summer but then your trans gets too cold in the winter.
And then there will be the offroad guy that knocks 4 tablespoons of dirt in the pan and on the gasket upon reassembly to create what we know as "maintenence induced malfunction"
This video while factually true is misleading. 1) The trans thermostat bypass valve (TBV) purpose is to reach optimum operating temperature quickly in all seasons, increasing load handling and fuel economy. 2) The stock GM TBV on the 6L80E used to open at 194°F(90°C) but they released a TSB. Talk to your dealership and they will replace it with a 154°F(70°C) one for free. 3) Closing the bypass doesn’t increase the efficiency of your trans cooler, meaning if you hit 220°F in town, you will still hit 220°F in town it just takes more time to get there. 4) The trans cooler doesn’t go through the radiator. If you look at your lines you will realize it has a separate cooler as part of the AC condenser in front of the radiator. 5) If you live in a cold climate, expect to lose slight MPG with the bypass delete mod because the trans will take a long time to reach operating temperature. 6) I installed the Shift Technology STL010 kit and drove up into the colorado mountains and it still hit 250°F before I let it cool off. Without it, it would have hit the same temperature only quicker. So, the point here is that sometimes you need a bigger cooler, and with a bigger cooler you probably want a thermostat! Because closing the bypass would make it even harder to reach operational temperature. 7) If you only do highway or short trips and don’t tow and don’t off-road then a closed bypass mod will give you lower temps because the rate of temperature rise is lower, and it removes the temperature floor of the system. Anyways, so that’s what I’m doing, ordered a bigger cooler, and will put the 70°F TBV back in. I’ll have a quick warm up and a much shallower angle of temperature rise vs load.
Over this past winter, I had a customer come in with a 2016 tahoe. Check engine light was on for a p0128 and complaining, It seems the heat isn't so great on really cold days. I am in Buffalo, so I advise new sensor, thermostat and a flushing of the heater core. They said ok call me when it's done. So I used CLR in the heater core and cleaned that out with fresh water. Flushed the cooling system completely. Replaced parts as mentioned. Topped off the cooling system and let it get hot. Purge the cooling system, fans kicked on and off. Temp gauge is in the middle. I left it outside running for 20 minutes or so. I took a temp reading with my temp gun. Top of the dash was 140 degrees. Lol I shut the heat off and shut the vehicle off. Hour later the customer comes and picks it up. Pays me and leaves, I get a call few minutes later from the customer. It's too damn hot in here, what the hell. I said come back and I will show you how to adjust the temperature lol. Him and his wife said the heat hasn't that good in that tahoe for years. Lol.
Things missing from this video: transmission needs to be at operating temperature, flushing the bypass cooler, Torque specs, the fact it should trickle not stream out. Good video but I fear it's not informative enough
Hey my Chevy cobalt is doing almost the same thing it morning forward just a little then I will try to move it backwards it moves a little then it want do nothing
The install is super easy. Mine dropped from 190 to running 140-150. Dont know how that will go in the winter but the fluid was black as coal and that definitely isn't good
I was asked to put a converter in on a 2008 equinox. Customer stated that it was a whining noise almost sounded like a low power steering fluid resourvior. I'll truly think filter is plugged. Send me your thoughts.
My grandmother bought a 2017 Escape and it did this while idling. The Ford dealership a mile away told her she needed a new engine. There is no coolant in the oil, so no head gasket blown. My son used to work at a Ford dealership and he said it is probably the sensor. I'm going to look at it this afternoon. Good to see what is most likely is. Thank you! They wanted $9,000 for a new engine.
Ok I completely drained the old fluid and I got the hose all the way in the fill hole. I got to the end of the first quart and it started draining out of the fill hole like it's over filled. What's the deal with that?
My 2500Ram won't start suddenly. after watching this video a couple of time, I found the ground wire near fender , then cleaned it up. it starts right way. thanks much

I’ve heard the liquid looks dark on these normally. Factory recommends a fluid change at 150K miles but folks in the know recommend doing this every 30K miles. Similar intervals recommended for the Power Transfer Unit and the rear differential on AWD units.
My customers that are serious about taking care of their transmissions i change the fluid every two years and have some customers that I have changed their fluid two or three times and it looks as good now as it did six years ago
What volume of fluid is needed? The manual doesn't say and online sources say something like 8.4 quarts for a full refill. I would assume this drain and fill procedure doesn't drain the lines and cooler though
I just wish i lived closer to bring my 2011 6.7 to you. Did a headgasket. And now its got some serious electrical problems. New batteries, new tipm and the list is growing.
