They call it hook and look because Velcro is a brand name. If you are not actually using Velcro brand hook and loop, you would not call it by that name. Would lead to confusion, false advertisement, and legal issues.
From what I can see of the leaves you are using Red Oak which is some of the most prolific tannin available. Seek out White Oak that have the soft edges on their leaves with no sharp points. Also the acorns are often longer and larger than the Red Oak. The White Oak is much better eating and so much easier to prepare
They're built for bogs. Mud and water. They perform GREAT under those conditions. Water flows in and out, but they take a while to dry because they're leather.

Wow a review from someone that actually looks like they've used the stuff. An unfortunate anomaly in the RU-vids. I watched a "survivalist" give his get home bag overview. Everything looked like it was fresh out of the packaging. Never seen dirt. LOL
