Many thanks, I want to start saving my old mixtapes i made during the 90s and early 2000s, plus some music that is extremely hard to find and that i only have in cassette format. I got the Reshow cassette player and this Audacity was starting to drive crazy. Appreciate you breaking Barney style for me
Interesting. I run Audacity mostly on a mac and haven't had many problems. My guesses would be maybe an older computer or maybe Audacity doesn't like the audio interface that is being used?
You went too darn fast on the Treble side.... I needed to see which way you tucked the loose end either under, or over the string before winding it. Thanks.
Sorry! I made this awhile ago and I need to check the resolution. Sometimes RU-vid will default the resolution lower, you can increase resolution under the “gear” symbol for setup.
How about answering some of the questions below .I see there are quite a few but your lack of answering them really bother me to how good of a teacher you may not be
I have D'addario 11-40 Xs I believe is the white pack of string but the strings I'm afraid are going to snap. How much slack for each string? I go by tuner so G, go to d, d go to top of headstock, a go to headstock, e go to a but idk if that's good
The D'addario XS strings replaced the EXPs I think. I just got my first set of them and I hear good things. I don't think they will snap as long as you bring them up to pitch slowly. A tuner is great to use and I do that a lot too. Happy picking!
Thank you so much! I am not as up to date with all the technological advances available today, so I usually put off learning them. Today I used your video to organize our concert we played from the weekend and I am so pleased. Thanks again.
How do you set Audacity to detect the silence between tracks and create EACH SONG as it's own individual recording, so you don't have to spend hours manually splitting and saving the songs individually after the full album/cassette is recorded?
I've connected my cassette deck to the laptop and Audacity is picking up the signal. Problem is, when I click on record, I get less than a second of recording and then it stops. Any idea what is causing this?
No comparison really. The Myers hands-down for better tone and adaptability(can move it to another instrument easily). But there are feedback limitations with Myers. But if you’re in a loud band with drums maybe check out the Blend by Myers. I have the Feather for an acoustic band.
Is there a way to separate the two tracks in the middle (one above the other) horozontically? (splitting it at -1 middle border)I accidentally merged to completely two separate files into one resulting in two separate conversations on top of each other. Reply
Thanks for this. The 'instructions' that came with my device were hopeless. This was super helpful, even if some things are not quite the same in my version. I now have music files on my computer, due to this film and the one on separating song files linked below. Cheers!
Nice work , I have a problem that I want to capture audio from cassette , and I connected phone with solo jack to separate rca connected to I/O interface , then usb to pc ,,, but it is only capture the L channel . Why ? It recorded L channel and make it a stereo “ left and right “ same sound which L channel . And left channel has low music bot like R channel . What is problem and how to record them L and R separately
most commercial tapes are not worth converting, just buy them cheaply in high quality from the streaming services. Where this comes to play is for all those self-made recordings you want to save.
I've had a Microphone Parts S-12 kit for almost a year, and seeking inspiration to FINALLY assemble it (I've previously put together one of their Fox 460 tube mic kits, also w/ the RK-12 capsule) and use it on a song I'm recording, I came across this video. The S-12 made your mandolin literally jump out of the speakers! It was so 3-D! And the transient response felt pretty fast, but complimentary. Nice clarity! The SM57's also continue to surprise me (last time was a pair on a Steinway 6ft grand through API pre's), but the S-12 just completely out performed it on your demo, to my ears. I'm gonna put my kit together tomorrow! Thanks!
I have to say the S-12 is a surprisingly good microphone kit and I use it all the time. My latest acquisition has been some Ear Trumpet Labs Edwina condenser mics and I've been having a good time testing these. SM57's are really amazing microphones that you can use for almost anything in a pinch, I just love them. You will love the S-12, have fun!
All my cassette players were built in the 1980s. I don't see any way to connect them to my computer so I can begin converting audio tapes to digital files. Is there an adapter I can buy that plugs into my old Sony cassette tape deck? The only options I've seen are the cheap cassette converters sold by Amazon, but they tend to have QC issues, not the least of which is introducing added noise.
Cassette players from the 1980s are fine. If you have one with RCA outputs then something like this Behringer interface should work well and is cheap: www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-Control-UCA222-Ultra-Low-Interface/dp/B0023BYDHK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3BD8C25VYNIOQ&dchild=1&keywords=behringer+audio+interface&qid=1628435901&sprefix=Behringer%2Caps%2C166&sr=8-4.
@@bsicotte Yes, it's a Sony TC-FX44 cassette deck with four RCA connections in back. I have it hooked up to a Sony STR-VX750 FM/AM receiver and a Sony PS-LX55 II turntable Thanks for the recommendation.
@@bsicotte I bought the Behringer, despite the negative reviews that warned potential buyers that the promised software was not included with the unit. I had my brother-in-law (who is telecom specialist) install it for me. He too had trouble getting it to work. After all else failed, he rebooted the computer and the program began working. We were able to successfully transfer the recording from an old 1975 cassette tape interview to a data file on my computer.
Do I need that interface if I’m transferring from an OG tape deck like a tascan? Audacity won’t recognize my tape deck it seems the interface is the solution
If the interface is recognized by windows/mac then I think Audacity should recognize it but I'm not sure. Sometimes the power up sequence is important like you have to have the interface on and plugged in before you open Audacity, etc.
