i saw this performed in chester 11/10/24, the music was fantastic the musicians gave a sterling performance .a most enjoyable night was had by all of who attended that night.

This may be the earliest Blues guitarist, from New Orleans, first recorded in 1924. This was before Charlie Patton from the Mississippi Delta, recorded in 1929. The latest ethnomusicological theory, with lots of evidence, is that rural folk musicians began to hear Lonnie Johnson and Jelly Roll Morton NOLA Creole Blues recordings in the early-mid 1920s. The rural folk musicians were so inspired that they emulated the sophisticated NOLA Creole Blues. The Blues was carried into rural areas, via the folk process, now augmented by radio and Victrola. Musician to musician; West across Texas; North, into Arkansa; East to Mississippi; North on the Mississippi to river towns, to Memphis, to Chicago. The evolution of Blues is the syntheses of NOLA Creole Blues with whatever styles of African American Folk Music were played in rural areas before African Americans heard recordings. By the mid-1930s, African Americans in rural areas, towns and cities, were merging Creole Blues with their own local folk music, playing budget guitars and the folk instruments they had been playing: washboard, harmonica, wash tub or jug bass, Didley Bo or bottle neck, fiddle, banjo (perhaps fretless, homemade), reed fife. Most importantly, rural and urban, these artists built on what they shared so deeply with each other; African American aesthetics rooted in West African cultures. They added blue notes, bent and vibrato notes, discordant sounds, percussive use of the Low E string, rhythmic changes within a tune, and surprising improvisation that created joy, elevated the spirit, and promoted dignity.
