Saw these cars run back in the day. And saw them run at various meets. RS was asked after running his pro mod Comet which cars were his fav. Without hesitation he said his Mercuries. He won more races with Merc's than any other cars.
I've always wondered how many 427 Cougars were made. It seems you see alot of 289 and 390 Cougars. My dads first car he bought at age 15 was a 67 XR7 GT with the 390 3 speed automatic. It did burnouts almost as good as this one.
Racing a Fairlane in that era it needs to be noted that the falcon chassis would not take a big block (example Taska fords first version match race mustangs) as it was too narrow across the shock towers, even with more room the early thunderbolts needed to have the shock towers modified to get the block in. I had to do a lot of work on my 64 Fairlane to squeeze that big wedge in. that said, this is a great example of fine engineering.
I owned a 64 Falcon but it was a measly 260 3 speed stick. But at my young age it was badass to me. I had it going 95 one time and hit a bump on the road. It danced all over and scared the living hell out of me.😂😂😂
I'm a big mustang fan I have had several of them, I would take that over a stang any day....Unless it was a 68 Bullitt. What I would like to know is how that car runs in Colorado with 2 4bbl's
