The impression I get of inline is that it really hasn't been established as its own distinctive sport.

about the edges on the rollerblades, I tried them on mine but to no avail, I can't lean or do edges to turn, only straight forward, same with the two foot turns.

You are good Jenn. I know there are certain moves you can’t do on rollerblades compared to ice blades. Do you recommend practicing on a flat surface? I subscribed. More content please…. ❤

This gives me a lot more confidence that I can learn skills on my inlines that can carry over to the ice. I have figure skates but getting into the rink costs money and can't really do that right now, so I started on inlines a few weeks ago and have gone out 4-5 times as my legs can handle it. I'm 35 years old but that's not going to stop me from doing something that truly makes me feel free. I want to glide on the ice and strengthen my body to being able to do figure skating techniques, but one step at time. I wear a skating helmet, elbow/kneepads, and wrist guards. I'm not risking my body! I'm even going to have facial feminizing surgery in a few weeks so I'm being extra careful and will most likely stop in a week or so just to be safe. I just want to get in shape and this is much more fun than walking or biking, but I don't want to risk a head injury so close to a surgery I've been waiting 3.5 years for. Recovery will be a thing.... but walking will be okay until the doctor says when I can get back to normal. I also have my vaginoplasty in about 9 months so there's going to be another recovery there for 3 months at least. Maybe it won't be that long before I can get back to my routine, but I don't want to take any chances. I'll listen to what the doctor says and probably wait 2 weeks past that!

hey! i just got impala inline skates because i eventually wanna figure skate. Do i need toe stops to try things like jumps, and if so can I just attach them to the skates I already have, or do I need to buy entirely different skates?
@witchyel
@witchyel 3 года назад
I got impalas too for the same exact reason and have the same question! i wish we could attach a toe stop without changing the bearing. spins seem possible but jumps are scary!
@justicesflowershop
@justicesflowershop 3 года назад
@@witchyel wow that's so exciting to see someone on the same journey! I researched and as far as I've found, no you can't attach toe stops. you need to buy inlines with them. But impalas are still really good beginner skates to start practicing things like balance, speed control, maneuvers, an such! so we both didn't totally waste our money loll
@witchyel
@witchyel 3 года назад
@@justicesflowershop aw that sucks but hey, sounds good! if anything we still have the heel-toe spin and other things we could practice in place of these. I’ve watched some slalom skating and there’s people who spin on one foot with blades that can replace figure spins. Difficult but not impossible! Let’s try our best and I hope you achieve your goals🤍🤍

Hi, are you able to make continuous edges (full semicirles) and one leg powerpulls as on ice? I'm beginner inline skater and don't have experience on ice, but I try to learn skills looking figure skating tutorials. For the moment these two drills seems quite difficult, but I don't know if it is only because of lack of skills, or they are inherently more difficult on inline skates because of bigger friction.For example when I try inside or outside edge semicircle with only one push, my inertia is not enough to complete the whole cemicircle and I don't know if I kill it with my body movements, or it is just because of higher friction.
@littleamig0
@littleamig0 3 года назад
There's a chance you're doing something wrong with the way you move/position yourself or your feet. Seeing as you said you're learning off tutorials I think you should record yourself and compare to how they are moving in case you're doing something wrong. Also lots of practice can help you pick up these skills as a beginner :) It's been 3 weeks since you wrote this comment so I'd also like to ask how you're going so far? Did you figure out the issue or just move on
@ivanilarionov1893
@ivanilarionov1893 3 года назад
@@littleamig0 In the recent weeks I'm training 3 things - riding backwards with a normal stride (similar to forward stride), gliding backward on one leg and forward powerpulls on one leg. I can say that powerpulls are better than 3 weeks ago, when I wasn't able to do them at all. Still far from what they should be though. For me the knee action is the hardest part of this movement - still cannot synchronize it well with the body turning. Here is a video from about a week ago: facebook.com/ilarionov/videos/10226157163661319/ About the continuous edges - I haven't trained them a lot, so almost no progress there. Still cannot make full semicirle with one push. I skate about 5-6 times per week, 1.5 hours per session. Another thing that I have difficulty with it is backward crossover in one of the directions. I just cannot turn my body as in the other direction (turning in this direction is not good too, but still better). And it seems that I bend my ankle too much in this direction, so I developed a pain there.
