Was so surprised by these at our first home, suddenly they appeared and we called them Surprise Lily until we found out the common name. I transplanted some to our new house in 1986 and have dug-and-divided many times since, sharing with family & friends. In blossom now, and did not know to sniff them so THANKS for that information!
Thank you for this video. I have to go back and check if mine have their own roots. I just put my amaryllis in a cardboard box for dormancy (I’m in Wisconsin and it’s mid September right now), and I didn’t know what to do with the offsets so I left them intact. I will check them again tomorrow. As a side note, I potted my first amarylllis which was a waxed amaryllis in an orchid pot after I removed the wax, and man the growth of roots she put out was crazy! I feel bad that they wax them like that! Amaryllis want to be in soil. I’m so glad I didn’t throw her away; she’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank-you for the encouraging words. They wax them so you will throw them away and buy again next year. I'm thinking not the way God intended but better for their business.
Hello Amaryllis Man Please help me. I'm in South Africa and one of my friends Amaryllis bulbs has had too much water now the roots have rotted completely. What can I do to try revive it. Its a double red 😢many thanks
This video is 10 years old so do you still chip the bulb and still use the Sterilite to grow them and the plastic to cover them? This is newto me because I grow cana lilies. Thank you for your time and information
Hello! I’ve been growing amaryllis from seed for a few months, and they’re each a few inches tall; around 3-5 with some having two leaves. Do they need to be put into dormancy, too? A few of them have yellowed leaves and I’m worrying a lot right now. I’ve given them some hydrogen peroxide to get rid of fungus gnats in the past, and have recently changed their watering schedule to once every week and have added coffee grounds to their soil. Is it my caretaking that’s the problem or are they just going into dormancy? It’s late summer where I’m at if you’re curious.
@@AmaryllisMan Thank you! One more question; Will lowering their sunlight levels alone prevent further yellowing, or is there something else I need to do? This is my first time taking care of amaryllis, and I am so lost.
What if you have one or rather two that have never bloomed. I live on the East Coast in FL and I got two of them from a friend about three years ago. They were in two separate pots and once I took the time to find out what they were I planted them in the ground in April. I had green leaves but they all died off. I now have green leaves again but no sign of a flower. Should I plant them back in a pot?
Amaryllis require three to four years of grown before they are ready to flower. You might check the ph. of the soil. Amaryllis require slightly acidic soil. that's about the best I can tell with the information you have given me. thank-you
Hi! I'm new to growing amaryllis, and I have a pot of around 20 seedlings that have been growing for about 6 months. Most of them have reddening of some sort. Does this solution work for seedlings with fungal infections, too? Is there anything else I can do to take care of them?
