I have tall fescue in my pasture. Along with perennial ryegrass. Red clover some bluegrass and a johnsongrass stand along the fence that sneaking over from my neighbors. The cows hardly ever if ever touch the tall fescue. The eat around it.
Yes but be careful as not all ryegrass is okay for horses. I think it’s the endophyte which can be an issue, the same cultivar can often have a no endophyte option and multiple endophyte options.

jeez, you guys are spraying herbicides? eesh. here you guys are talking about increased microbial activity from the rye grass and then you spray herbicides, and may have to spray more than once? there go your precious microbes you talked up about. you mega farmers really don't get it do you.
these mega farms are workable as long as fuel is cheap. when it isn't cheap anymore, the industry *will* have to significantly downsize. shipping produce thousands of miles will be out of the question. smaller, local farms will be the future of farming. it's not a question of if, it's when.
nice. recycling nutrients is what it's all about. cereal rye will do the same, although it may tie up nitrogen for a longer period because of its heavy fiber stalks. rye grass may release it sooner.
