For a better indication of what the chipper is actually doing, keep an eye on the output... Even if the operator jams so much into the input chute that it gags the feed mechanism, the machine is still working on what it had before it choked. The output is relatively constant because the chipper is running at it's limit... If the operator stuffs it to the point of stopping the input load, the output is usually still good.... Basically, the chipper knows what it's doing, even if the operator doesn't.
