Maybe you can help. I just got a Gretsch jim dandy 24" scale length guitar. The neck is flat with only tiny relief. The action was high, so I've been sanding the saddle down, but after removing quite a bit of saddle height a little at a time, the action height stays at 2.25 mm 12th fret low E and 2.00 mm high E. Why is that? Why won't it go lower? Id like 2.0 and 1.75 mm, respectively. Im almost at the point where the high E side of the saddle is flush with the bridge.
Ps: I forgot to mention, after I did all that work on the saddle, I did tighten the truss rod a bit, but it had no effect. It was very hard to turn to the right, and very easy to turn to the left. Also, I put 10 gauge strings on it when I got it. It came with 12s I believe.
This video is pretty old now, but I'm wondering if you noticed anything odd about the 3rd and 4th string? I swear the 4th is wider than the 3rd and that seems a bit strange to me. I haven't used many acoustic guitars, so perhaps it's normal. I bought two packets so I opened the second one to check if it was just a labelling error, but they both have a 4th string that appears wider than the 3rd.
I have no idea how I managed to get it wrong. They're all numbered correctly, I just swapped the position of those two for some unknown reason. I even got it wrong when I opened the other packet. It's all fixed now, thanks.
I alwai always put towel in the strings whenever I am tuning the first and 4th string, just removing it i if will listen if it is tuned already then return it if not heheheh
