Welcome to Julia Lives, a travel and lifestyle channel. I love travel and will primarily focus on travel reviews on the channel, but may include lifestyle content periodically. Thank you for your interest and I'm looking forward to sharing my travels with you.
I live in Virginia Beach and visit the Cavalier on a regular basis for dinner. The reason everything is in such good condition is because a developer along with the city of Virginia Beach did an extensive renovation on the hotel a few years back along with building the Marriott Hotel across the street from it.
What a great place to live:). I love the homes on the streets adjacent to the Cavalier and driving around behind the property felt very secure. The restoration is beautiful❤
"I'd get up and have a half dozen bottles of beer!" Words that rang true to me and sent me off to 38 years of sobriety last July 4! Ironic that my father was the only member of my immediate family unaffected by Alcoholism and was Born in Akron City Hospital! Crazy irony right?
Congratulations on 38 years of continuous sobriety. That's a miracle:). The tour guide told me people who haven't stayed sober elsewhere have moved to Akron in a last ditch effort to achieve sobriety. That is ironic that your dad was born in Akron but was unaffected directly by alcoholism.
Thanks for your video. I will be traveling there with a friend in November (2024). The price you paid seems a little steep. I know this is from 2 years ago, but still. My total package price for 2 people was of $4,090. That includes: 7 days/8 nights stay in a deluxe garden suite, round trip airfare, 2 excursions, airport transfers, and travel protection. I’m a travel agent as well, and I made sure I got the best deal for us. This will be my 3rd time traveling to Tulum, and I have never paid more than 4k for 2 people. I really appreciate your honest review though.
I think the price also reflects the time of year; the week between Christmas and New Year's. That's an expensive time to travel! I may not have mentioned I always upgrade my airline seats. I like to be at the front of the plane with some leg room. Once I started doing that, I haven't looked back:)
Great video- but I wish you would have commented more on the food you ate and what you thought- it's a big piece of making the decision on where to stay.
The food was nothing spectacular. I made a comment about the desserts being really watery and several people commented that it's a gelatin that is used. I can always find something to eat, but I've stayed at Secrets and Sandals and thought the food was better at both properties.
Yes, the downtown has many cool restaurants (no chains). The atmosphere is a college town feeling with students bustling about and lots of trendy shopping.
@@mitchellgraves2774 I have a few Ann Arbor hotel reviews on my channel. I like The Graduate if you want to walk to campus. I've also stayed at the Bell Tower. The Hyatt Place is popular, but the next time I go, I think I'll stay at EVEN. Sweetwaters coffee is very popular and I prefer it when I'm in A2. I also like Cinnaholic. I like Isalita Cantina Mexicana, Jolly Pumpkin, Zingerman's or Zingerman's Roadhouse, and Frita Batido's (hamburgers). There are some good restaurants that aren't national chains, but have other locations in Michigan (Hopcat, Condado Taco, Jolly Pumpkin). These are all pretty midrange pricing, but Ann Arbor prices are higher in general. There are several upscale restaurants if you're there to celebrate. Let me know if you visit. I'd be interested to hear what you think:)
@JuliaLives1111 Thanks for all the much needed info! I'm planning on going in October so I'm trying to get it planned out as best I can with suggestions from ones that have been there in the area. Planning on visiting a few sites in the Detroit area but thought ann arbor would be a better place to stay. Trying to plan a night in Chicago also before I get there and then back down to Louisville for a day or so before returning home.. If you had to choose which one would you Say had the best accommodations for the rates?
@@mitchellgraves2774 If you're looking to stay in Ann Arbor, watch out for prices around sporting events. The hotel prices will soar if there is an event that weekend, in which case, you'd be better off staying closer to Detroit. I found the prices in Chicago to be higher than expected when I stayed there last summer. I stayed at the Westin and ended up paying around $580 for one night, which is higher than what I've paid in the past.
The hotel is nice the restaurants very nice but tge room service is 2 star quality getting room service delivered like Uber in plastic box plastic utsnciks is embarrassing. On this fact alone I stopped booking there. The hotel is right on the beach and is nice clean but high prices for not the best service . Room cleanings r good though cleaning stuff do great job
I think the hotel was busier than usual with families when I stayed there due to the Embassy Suites closure for renovations. I would stay there again, but I paid a high rate due to the timing. Right now the rates are only $200 per night.
@@JuliaLives1111 Let me know how it works! BTW, I enjoy your videos and all the varied items you test. I first stumbled upon your channel when we were booking a trip to Sanibel, and we were thinking of staying at the Marriott Sanibel Island Resort. We ended up going (shortly before Ian wreaked the place) and we had a great time. Your video helped us decide...thank you!
@@jrad1316 Turned out great with the stripper. Totally different experience! I'm glad you made it to Sanibel before the devastation. It's a beautiful area. I'll continue to post reviews. I find them helpful myself!
@@JuliaLives1111 oh my goodness please understand "apartment living" is not fun lol I'm glad to live in a house trust me. I just don't get bothered when It comes to hotels. I say this i love what you are doing I am now a sub for you so thanks
Hi Folks, whats wrong with all of you when making an YT content ??!!! Is it an insurance advice and discussion about a specific subject or some sort of a music concert ?
Thanks for the review! I've seen ads for these meals on my smartphone. They do seem a bit pricey and might not be filling enough for a guy. I might try it once when they have specials.
@@tori.walkergulley No, you can walk around for free. There are a lot of restaurants and bars. There's an ice cream stand and a cinnamon roll stand, too, if you're in the mood to get a small bite. Tickets to the Delta River Boat are $15.99, but anyone can take a cruise, even if you're not a guest. It's a huge property--you can spend a long time walking around if you take in every area.
Hi Julia, I have a question about getting on and off the boat. Do you think that this is something that a very large person with mobility issues could navigate doing? Is it handicap accessible?
Great video. Please tell me this. I have knee issues and going up and down stairs is a problem with me. Does this resort have facilities in place (elevators, ramps, golf carts etc) to help me get everywhere I might want to go? (ie: from room to restaurants, beach, pool etc..) Thanks so much, Steve S.
There are definitely elevators and ramps. I'm not sure about access to golf carts, but the staff went above and beyond to accommodate requests. I would contact the resort about golf carts. There is a shuttle service to and from the Bali Collection.
Probably the filter on the side of the ball and/or the seal it sits on and maybe a clog somewhere. I'd refer to the manual that came with it, clean the filters, and check for clogs.
The tip of the island was a misleading tracking station in the 50s…..no they don’t rent chairs on the beach ….don’t miss the esplanade …bars and restaurants on the water ….
Just had one delivered yesterday from local hardware store. I find that the button to lower the left side table doesn't depress so I can't make it go down. Any idea why?
I took a taxi to Sanur one night and it was very lively! I went to Nusa Dua after Ubud to slow down, so it was perfect for my needs. I thought businesses opened late, too. Starbucks didn't open until 10:00 a.m.☕😳
That house should be exactly like it is for tourists to see from aa. Really neat video and God bless dr bob. God used him to help save so many lives. Thx
Yes…. Thank you for video…. 19 years and 6 months here…. All because of these two men and this house ♥️. We Cannot tforget the coffee pot I would love to visit some day 💯❤️💯
@@lisaannevaccarezza6122 Sobriety is a beautiful miracle. Friend of Bill W. myself (17 years). I would love to visit during Founders' Day. It's this coming weekend. There's a play put on by people in recovery. This year the play is called "Snow White and The Seven Character Defects."
Hi Julia, Thank you for your wonderful video. You mentioned that you walked all the way from Westin to Mulia Resort along the beach side. Now because I love all the restaurants Mulia has to offer except for its hefty room rates, I will stay in Ayodya Hotel and walk alongside the beach route and it should lead me to Mulia the shortest distance rather than following Google Maps which asked me to walk past half finished Shangarila Project.
I worked at the water tower place from 2021-2023 at the Lego Store. In my opinion, I think the mall is in its last legs. After the pandemic WTP lost a lot of stores including the food life area on the first floor. The mall does get packed during the weekend and during the summer, but most people usually shop at the American girl doll place the Lego store or the adidas store. Other than that, most other stores in the mall area pretty empty. The biggest issue that this mall has is the lack of stores that they have compared to other places in the suburbs. There is no bookstores or other popular stores that other places would have like (GameStop, Hot Topic/Spencer's/ Kohls/JCPenney/ Macys/Victoria's Secret). If you go to the 4th-7th floors you will see a lot of vacant stores that are not being used it's honestly sad to see how the water tower place is now.
I couldn't agree more! I hope something is done to save this iconic mall. I was really shocked to see the vacancies on the higher floors. So many empty spaces. I'd love to return and find it full of life again❤
Taxis are everywhere, but depending on where you're going, you may want to book it with the concierge if it's a distance. There is a lot to see within walking distance as well. I went to the water temple and booked a taxi the day before.
This place is so fun! I love Starbucks but when I go to Lighthouse I make a special trip across the street to Lakeshore Coffee. Thank you for posting this wonderful video 😊
I've been wondering about those "War Rations". I don't smoke, but I always wanted to stockpile cigarettes in case the U.S. Dollar finally crashes. I noticed ppl who do raw physical labor and will be the most helpful smoke like chimneys. I really don't drink anymore, but stockpiling booze would eventually get tempting.
We had a crew taking a dead tree down next door and you're right, most of them had a lung bomb hanging out of their mouth while they worked. But what about vapes? They've got such a strong hold on the younger generation. I don't know any kids who smoke, but plenty who vape. They vape walking down the hall at school and don't get caught.
@JuliaLives1111 Most of my friends don't smoke. But the ones I worked with during a time when they couldn't go outside to have a smoking break, all it showed me was that smoking just gives you a permanent caffeine withdrawal. May as well have coffee instead of a cigarette. But alcohol took you to Oz! Especially when you looked at your Rum bottle and wonder where it all went. Pirates are a VERY VERY bad influence btw.
@JuliaLives1111 Vaping is crazy! Like drink and smoking had a child! Then there are our modern Prohibition games with marijuanas where some people can get accidentally shot by the cops over it and others buy their way into our modern "Speakeasy" and the law looks the other way
@@anthonyruby2668 I don't think I know anyone who still smokes. Most of the ppl I knew still smoking tried to hide it. I lived next door to somebody for 10 years and didn't know they smoked until I walked past a canning jar full of butts in their garage and they sheepishly admitted they were a "closet smoker." I visited my son at his college frat house a few years ago on Easter and there was a half a fifth of grape MD20/20 in the living room. That will get you!
@JuliaLives1111 I know! Right? A smoker friend said either you are a smoker or you are not. Even used the term "Closet Smoker." I know there are AA and people addicted to booze, but for a lot of people, drinking gets easier to quit when the euphoria to hangover ratio levels out and drinking is no longer worth it. But being a history buff, I'd be like, "I'm a pirate" (Rum). Or "Today I am Caesar" (Wine). Got to have wine with your caeser salad and Little Caesars pizza! Deep dish pizza to really add to the BREAD and Circuses!
