Very nice video as knowledge and information. Practically speaking, it did not help me as someone that just wants to set up a cartridge. All he did was good at the first try. Very theoretical on solving problems that we will for sure find. And buying a microscope is not an option.
My new turntable arrived a few days ago equipped with the OM10 (ProJect/NAD C558) - which is the best I've ever heard any record sound in my home. However, I'm already dying to hear how much better the OM20 might sound. Is there something wrong with me? 🤔😆
It is good to attent people to take high care when brush a stylus. From back to front. I always take a loupe to inspect the stylus condition. I use only clean records, and it works! When you bought a secondhand record and they send you a really used secondhand record, i always give a record a full clean and a fresh antistatic inner sleeve. Results a stylus that need no cleaning to much, less brushing mistakes, longer stylus life. A good recordstore sell secondhand records that are pre cleaned with a serious record cleaning machine, this results in a dust and dirt free stylus longer as normal when put on a record without checking it’s condition.
My barely used 2M Black cartridge stopped working just outside the warranty and upon troubleshooting with an ohm meter one coil was open and the other high resistance. After the the too-bad-so-sad we don't sell just the body response, I was able to find a Blue body from eBay and the 2 paired just perfectly with satisfying listening results but hard to tell the difference since so much time had pass between. So yes it can be done, a Black stylus works on a Blue body. Still looking for a Black body if anyone knows where I can find one (I am in Toronto, Canada), would be interesting to A/B test them.
It is just a pity that they have lost their knowledge when it comes to 78rpm compatible cartridges. They should make a usable 3mil 78rpm stylus with a tracking force of 5g or more. Unfortunately, all they have have is 2.7mil (65µm), which is too small for most historical records, and they all range from 1.8g to 3.5g tracking force. This means that skipping is guaranteed on a record that's not perfectly flat.
@@hansemannluchter643 Hmm, but there are at least three current 78rpm Ortofon models available: OM 78, 2M 78, and the SPU Mono CG65Di mkII. It's merely the design problems that makes them unusable for most applications.
Seria 2M jest gówno warta. A niby w jaki sposób usuniesz resztki wżartego winyla ? Tym pocieraniem ? Nie rozśmieszaj. Cały korpus wibruje i trzęsie się we wkładce ! Tak wygląda cała seria 2M ! Wibracje zniekształcają dźwięk ! Już nigdy nie kupię ORTOFON 2M !!!
Hello. First of all, thank you for your time and your video. I have a question. It seems that you use a Shibata needle and the angle is measured with respect to the flat back face of the needle. But with an elliptical needle (OM 10 or 20), how would we measure the angle? I had always taken as a reference the imaginary line that would pass through the center of the needle body, and not its back face. Please help me. Thanks a lot
My Pro-Ject has a moveable set screw that allows the tonearm to be turned so the stylus sits vertically in the grove. Is this not recommended? Is using a shim the preferred method? Also, is this done with anti-skate weight installed? That seems to put pressure on the stylus when the stylus is placed in the grove, causing more azimuth skew. I've been running without an anit-skate weight for a while without issue.
I have 15 of the Ortofon 2 m Red and this is the best cartridge that I have ever used I love the bass and high end that this cartridge delivers I also have 1 blue great sounding thank you for making these cartridges
