Yeah, the aliens as cosmic horror makes sense. That's a cool way to interpret them.

The way the show depicts a broken world is so obvious and clumsy that does not make any justice to the profound way Tolkien expresses the Fall and Mortality. It's great to make more Christian shows, but if you're not preserving Tolkien's vision then just do an original script and don't call it an adaptation

I would take a bullet for Andy. Rain was great, but every time a character gave Andy guff it was very hard to not start walking towards the screen to try to fight them.

Did you interpret "the Island" as a god or higher power? I think that Jacob was under the guidance of this higher power. Hence, when you hear God loves you as he loves Jacob. And Illana asked Richard who lies in the shadow of the statue? The statue was a statue of a god and the one in the shadow is Jacob. And Locke's mom said he was immaculately conceived. I think what the writers meant was Locke dying so the monster could die in his body was a plan conceived by this god. And in the episode "The Man Behind the Curtain," we see breifly a man in the chair. Its not Jacob because we know what Jacob looks like. And its not the monster because in that episode, the cabin is surrounded by the ash that the monster cant cross. I believe that voice speaking Help Me! was this god or aka "the island." Other things I saw in the show was in 2x4 Hugo's Mom said Jesus gave him the winning lottery money. And Sawyer asked Jack in the final episode what did the burning bush have to say for itself? This happened after Jack spoke with Jacob alone. And in 3x5, Ben says that the plane crashing and sending him a spinal surgeon was proof of God. And when Jack, Hugo, and company were on the liferaft after the island moved, Hugo said Locke moved the island. Jack said no he didnt. And tgen Hugo says, Thats exactly what Locke did and if he didnt, I would like to hear a better explanation. And then Frank sees Penny's boat and says, "God Almighty!" Its like the writers were saying a god moved the island. And in "Across the Sea," theres a mystery of when the well, where the donkey wheel is, is filled with tons of dirt in seconds. The monster hadnt entered the world yet so it didnt do it. It must have been this higher power.

You should spend some time with Prince. His Royal Badness turned Christian and spent the last quarter of his career spreading the word of God and Funk/Soul/R&B with the world. He quit performing his vulgar songs, quit cussing, and wrote countless songs about love for one another and God. He brought lots of people to Christ including myself.

In my teens I felt called to minister to Satanists. Found devil worshipping rap music and have been ministering to up and coming artists ever since even got invited to VIP at a meet n greet and met Juicy J. Nicest guy I've always prayed for and that group ended and he got real famous and successful

There's been a bit of backlash over season 3. I'm not sure if it's just 2024 and the internet hates all things popular or if there are actual real reasons for it. Myself, I loved it. I look forward to The Bear each year and all the chaos it brings. The having a baby episode was beyond good and I've seen so much hate for it. I thought Jamie Lee Curtis was teaching a masterclass and I also thought it was Abby Elliot's breakout. I love your take on The Bear Josh. I shared it with a friend whom I'm trying to convince to watch the show. Please keep fighting for Furiosa!

Thanks Dave - though to be clear, on this video I'm just reading what D. Marquel wrote about The Bear, so this is his take. I really appreciate his angle - especially how he traces the throughline of service and food - but personally I was more disappointed by this season (to your point about the backlash). It struck me as very uneven. The baby episode you mention and the Tina episode that D. writes about were clear highlights, but too much of it felt like filler or killing time.

Joe actually summed up my MCU stance pretty well. I've been reading comics, watching the cartoons and the movies since I was a kid, so with few exceptions I'm in. I'll watch all of it. I may not be going into it with the same expectations I once did in say the mid 2010's, but it would take very little to get me back onboard to that degree again.

Stories are metaphors and allegories speaking about the current state of society. You need to have your own mind and critically think. 90% of movies have dark or immoral themes. Don’t eat garbage and don’t watch garbage. Love thy neighbor.

My stepfather would bring home horror movies all the time I've watch all of the fredy Jason and other not horror movies but extremely violent ones like Charlie Sheen "Boys next door". He would say it's important for me to see what the world is really like. A few year before all this my father died and my mom and I began visiting churches other than catholic. Baptist piscapalian and one of her friends was Christian witch was the ones we went to the most. I was only ten, and didn't like any of it. It all stopped when I told how is good going to take us serious if we bounce around so much with religion. Let's just be good catholics. So I went to catholic school where my cousins were already going. It made thing so much easier for me. Rooting for the bad guy is the easiest way to get through a horror movie. But it's hard to with with movie like the exorcist. I don't really like horror movies any more and that mindset of routing for the evil makes you feel like a psycho. The first saw movie was good and seven was a cinematic masterpiece but those are the exceptions. Me no liky horror no mo.

I'm a big boygenius fan and stumbled upon your channel while searching for recently uploaded videos related to the band and I'm glad I decided to click. This was a great listen! Regarding Sarah's reservations toward "Satanist," Baker explained the origins behind the song in a recent (and very excellent) episode of the Sound Opinions podcast featuring the band. Her explanation might help to make the lyrics a little more palatable: "I grew up super religious. I thought that being told that I was queer and that meant I wasn't allowed in Church would make me less interested in God, but I was like, 'Nope, I'm gonna figure this riddle out,' and so I got obsessed. I was a sophomore in high school trying to read Kierkegaard and figure out what God needed me to do, getting into the Bhagavad Gita and stuff, so I was obviously spiritually inclined. And then I watched the documentary 'Hail, Satan?' -- it was right after I had deconstructed a whole bunch about my very zealous, intense, anarcho-Christian, weirdo, Cornerstone Kid faith and I was like, 'Do I agree with Satanists?' Is the thing my parents told me is the most off-limits and the most abominable...am I watching this documentary, seeing how Satanists worship the edification of the self and each other, and seeing how there's Satanists out here doing food drives and clothing drives, and needle exchanges and stuff, [helping] the unhoused population in their cities...am I wrong about this? So then I wrote this tune that was like, 'What if I decided to be a Satanist? Would you still love me?' It's the equivalent of, 'Would you still love me if I was a bug?' [...] So I was having a scenario of, 'I wonder who in my life I could tell I think I might want to entertain becoming a Satanist that would be chill with it?' And it's [Phoebe and Lucy]. That is indicative of many reasons writ large why I'm in boygenius." www.soundopinions.org/show/906
