My wife and I went to the national quartet convention in 1998. It was in Kentucky. We stayed and ate at the Galt Hotel. Perfect Heart was at a table near us when we were eating there.
i got to know jeff a bit over the years, and he was a very humble gentleman. yeah he had his onstage "persona" for lack of a better word, but deep down he never forgot where he came from or what he used to be. i ask him one time about lessons and he was willing but we jsut couldn't make the schedule work for either of us unfortunately. one of my biggest regrets in life. i told him at the time if i could ever play the hallelujah chorus like him i figured i was really a piano player (i'd played growing up but never got that good). he promised if i worked hard i'd be able to he'd teach it. fouond out later from one of the guys in triumphant, that he had actually taught a kid how to do it at a church they visited every year (or came to pigeon forge on vacation year after year) and broke it down for him part by part one hand then the other. basically in small chunks at a time so it didn't feel over whelming. never gave the kid the whole thing till the last part. said the of all of it that part the kid found the easiest and had that nailed before they either left town or the kid went back home from vacation. i don't know alot of guys in any music industry including gospel that would have done that, but from what i understand that's the type of guy jeff was. i miss him and will always regret never even getting just a few lessons from him............ :(
I remember Jeff Stice from The Nelons, Perfect Heart, Kingdom Heirs, and Triumphant Quartet. He was truly an extremely talented Pianist, and he definitely had a funny side to him, that's for sure! If you want to see an example of that, watch a video here on RU-vid, from his time in Perfect Heart, called "Just a little talk with Jesus", and hopefully you'll see what I mean.
Ì wonder if anyone of this group would take it to the streets. I've been watching Harmonie London who ministers to everyone on the streets of London. There a big differance.
At times they show the joy of the Lord and in the eyes of some, act up. At times they are singing and very serious. At times they seem sad. The saddest is for those who miss it. The acting up is for those who need it. The seriousness is to let you know how serious this way of the Lord is. When it's all over, there's only two places where all can/will be. Jesus is sweet sweet joy.
The production value of the little skit at the end was great…. I love Greg Fox’s panicked reaction and the fact the abductor grabbed the girl right after her friends walked away. The video has a great message but I just couldn’t take it seriously with the fellas’ acting chops
Also that song that was just prior to the intros of the group should have been more famous. I won't besmirch the one on here and God cried that probably became the groups signature song, but the one prior to the intros was just as good. Not better but definitely just as good sometimes what song gets famous is hilarious when u hear the back stories. I'll give 2 examples. Clayton who I've known for years told me a story one time. He said that he had just gotten a small royalty check from a song he'd written back when he first left his family group. It basically got recorded because they needed to fill space on a tape and that wad what filled the time needed he says he gets small checks even then from that song so apparently it's still played occasionally. Now this conversation happened in late 90s or early 2000s. He'd been with the group in this video better pet of a decade at this point if not longer. He'd been with kingdom heirs for 5 or 6 years prior to this group. So he's still getting a royalty check off a song thst at this point is better part of 20 years old that was by his own admission a space filler? And no im.not being disrespectful that's basically what he called it. Years later I heard a story about the song my name is Lazarus. Rodney wrote that after hearing a sermon on the subject and started jotting down a back story to the guys who carried the friend to Jesus. Now how much of the rest of this is true I've never had confirmed but here's what I heard. He got home and started working on it and trying to turn it into a song. Took it to Gerald and said here's a song I just wrote. Gerald liked it and thought it had potential but had another project already planned out so told him it'd have to wait till next one. Well true to his word it was the first one selected for the next Album. The previous one had at least one other Rodney wrote.. needless to say my name is Lazarus became just a tad but more famous won him inthink his first of many song writer and song of the year awards and according to Gerald at one time since they'd recorded it they've sung it every concert since then. Rodney's written a lot of great music and is a talented writer no doubt but i think he'll always be known for Lazarus no matter what he does the rest of his life.
Way underrated group. Should have been around much longer but I guess when they kicked out Greg and bought him out it went down hill. They fired Clayton within months and then like in a year weren't even a group. Should have been around much longer.
