Hey Adrian, I'm curious how much gear oil does the 22B hold in the main gear splash bath as well as in the gear reservoir located under the drag drum? Thanks for your help.
@adriannettlefold9084
@adriannettlefold9084 5 дней назад
@cjordan7284 I don't truly know and have discovered the hard way that I have over filled mine to you know where. I ended up getting oil on my swing/propel drums and I'm now in the process of doing my first service as well as degreasing my mistake. I will try get an accurate measurement and let you know once I have finished. Hopefully this weekend.

@@adriannettlefold9084 Interesting. I have a feeling my drain tube between the gear box and the chain case is clogged and the main gear box under the drag drum is not able to drain back into the splash bath. I took 15 gallons out of it last night. I'll drop the bottom end of the spash bath this weekend and see if I can see what's going on. I guess I have a partial answer--at least 15 gallons. ha. Thanks
@adriannettlefold9084
@adriannettlefold9084 5 дней назад
@cjordan7284 I thought it was a fair bit but I don't know if it that much? We work in Litres and I had a 20L (5gallons) drum but didn't put all that in. But I didn't drain it all first either. Mine had a heap of water and custard type sludge that I started to drain the other day. So tomorrow I will go have another look and change the oil . The two plugs on the bottom of that gear case have about 2inches difference in level or there abouts... so between yours and my attempts we should come up with an answer.
@adriannettlefold9084
@adriannettlefold9084 День назад
@@cjordan7284 Do you have an email or contact number? I have just finished changing the gear oil on my machine and I found that so far it only took 15Litres tops. I haven't run it enough to see what oil is going back to the swing and propel vertical shaft box. but I did use diesel to clean it and it drained out.. so can only assume the horizontal rubber hose connection is clear.

@adriannettlefold9084
@adriannettlefold9084 Месяц назад
@katrinalaw1479 I wasn't on the trip so couldn't really say why, other than the Garratt had a broken lubricator pipe which had to be fixed before the return trip. Perhaps the crews knew about the broken spring before hand as well... I just don't know. Sorry.

Like with the passing of the _Capricornian_ to a Tilt Train only service, the withdrawal of the _Sunlander_ and the M series cars has left a noticeable hole in QR's Traveltrain fleet. I noticed the _Westlander_ and _Inlander_ services were sitting car only trains, which would make these services far from attractive to the average passenger for long journies. I feel that QR Traveltrain management have dropped the ball here, preferring to focus on their Tilt Trains and the _Spirit of the Outback,_ leaving a hole in train services to Rockhampton and further into North Queensland. Perhaps their intention is to destroy long distance train travel, aside from the Tilt Trains? As an aside, I found 1754 at Redbank recently, partially stripped. It seems her days are numbered... 😞
@adriannettlefold9084
@adriannettlefold9084 2 месяца назад
We will have to wait and see. I reckon after the Olympics there won't be any money and that will see things fall in a heap. 1754 if it is still being worked on will probably end up with a new maxi cab and 26L airbrake equipment, then head to Cairns.

Was the staff used for messaging between stations?
@adriannettlefold9084
@adriannettlefold9084 2 месяца назад
Hi, no it's the permission that the driver needs to ve able to travel from one station to the next. This ensures that his train is the only train that is on that section of track at that time and that he has no fear of colliding with another train. They used staff ticket as a safe working system, before electric signalling came in.

Hey Adrian, great video. Just a quick question, so I applied for a Suburban Train Operator job with QR, it’s still in progress but I was doing some research in relation to the position and I think I may have applied for the wrong position. I was wanting to become a train driver but it seems I got mistaken and thought the operator position was the driver job, but instead looks like it’s more shunting trains in a depot instead of driving them on the network. Just wanted to double check if this is correct, and if so do you reckon I should stick with it if successful and then apply for a driver job later down the track (no pun intended), or should I cancel the application and just wait for the driver job to come up instead? Thanks
@adriannettlefold9084
@adriannettlefold9084 3 месяца назад
Hi mate. If it's with QR, it sounds like you have applied to become a Rail Operater which is a.Shunter's position. This is a good position to get into QR and my advice is to take the job and when a guards job or a Driver's job come up you then apply for that position. External job offers don't come up very often and you might be without a job if you wait for them to offer a Driver's position. Getting your foot in the door into QR is the hardest part. Internal people get first chop over people like yourself as an External. Hope that helps
@samuelwarrilow407
@samuelwarrilow407 3 месяца назад
So just clarifying, with the shunter job, you get to drive and move trains, but only within the depot itself correct? Or do you just direct and attach and detach carriage etc.
@adriannettlefold9084
@adriannettlefold9084 3 месяца назад
@samuelwarrilow407 you don't drive anything. You couple up and detach, you switch points, you do computer work as in train lists, you operate signal panels. You call out trains from the stabling yards and put them into their allotted road when they come back to the yard. Driving is separate to this altogether. Like I said, if you are wanting a job with QR, take any job to get your foot in the door, then apply to become a driver. Otherwise look for a trainee driver's position with Aurizon or Pacific National or Watco
@samuelwarrilow407
@samuelwarrilow407 3 месяца назад
@@adriannettlefold9084 thanks for the advice, i have applied for PN and Watco, couldn't see any trainee positions with Aurizon. But I'll still wait for the results of the operator job and also keep an eye out for QR driver jobs as well. I have a causal job at the moment so I'm not at risk of being unemployed while waiting, but if I'm accepted in some form I'll go straight into the new job.

I don’t know why but I can just imagine the day that the NGRs will be getting scrapped and how much we will realise how fast time has went but to be honest I may not see them because surprisingly QR like to keep their trains for a long time. From when I made this comment the EMUs are quite hard to find around the network now but I hope they stay around for that little bit longer as they are great trains and I will deeply miss them. 😢

Hey Gregg. Yeah Paul has been very generous to me, hopefully I will end up getting some more footage once 971 is up and running or if SDSR manages to lease other locomotives. I don't know what QR Heritage has planned, but they seem to be limited to running from Ipswich to Grandchester at the present, due to the big hole in the ground being built. The film highlights what has been lost to history as is the case everywhere. Hope your project is progressing. Cheers and Happy Easter.

Did this wonderful trip many times as a boy whilst on holiday with my mum and dad, It took us the best part of 3 days and two nights to get from London to Palermo. I remember getting the train from St Pancras to Dover, then a ship from Dover to Calais, and then a train from Calais to either Paris or Milan, However catching a train to Milan meant having to wait about 8 hours to get the connecting train from Milan to Palermo as there was only one train a day. I can also remember my father having to produce Passports every time we came to crossing a border, unlike today in the EU. Yes it was exhausting, but at that young age it was like an adventure to me. If seeing sights is your thing then going through Switzerland by train is breath taking. wonderful, wonderful memories I will always cherish.
