I know Demon Slayer is meant to be a simple story, it does its arc and selects character that would best portray the theme of that arc and the arc of demon slayer. I have multiple problems with it though and my first problem is the progression of strength, I think we jump into the 12 kizuki way too quickly and if some villains weren't moons then we'd just see more character interaction among other characters we should've seen. TOO MUCH OFFSCREEN DEVELOPMENT, Godspeed came out of nowhere, Inosuke and Shinobu's development, Kanao's development, Tanjiro's sadness after Rengoku died, everyone BUT Tanjiro's developments in the Hashira Training, and probably more. When I compare DS to JJK, I'd take JJK 10/10 even though it's nearly as simple as Demon Slayer, JJK in my opinion has better villains, utilizes side-characters better (imo), the characters (imo) are better written and serves more of a purpose than developing an arc's theme, although it didn't reach it's full potential it built its world better than DS and the world of JJK is almost inherently more interesting because it involves ghosts, I like the fights more, and we see the life of normal sorcerers whilst in DS we don't see anything like that.
I think it is in a weird space where it has the necessary parts to appeal to children such as incredible character design, music score, simple narration and story, and also has necessary parts to appeal to adults who would have enough life experience to actually appreciate the profoundness of personal struggles, which while simple are nevertheless very real (ex. rengoku's father not being able to cope with the loss of his wife and being an alcoholic, and rengoku stepping up after he noticed that his father was going on missions drunk. This happens even if rengoku didn't get formal training from his father, just making the best of an unfortunate situation). For teenagers looking "edginess" or subversions galore, or an ideologically driven characters this is not it. The story is the just the life of the authentic feeling characters, take it for the good and bad.
The simplicity and the character's designs are what made me like demon slayer. Having a bunch of overly sensitive fatsos raging over a successful franchise is inevitable, any anime or manga will always have haters but demon slayer just has much more due to its simplicity.
People just don't understand that demon slayer never meant to be that phylosophical type of anime with deep realistic writing and very complex characters like attack on titan, the type that you watch and then have a feeling that you understood this world by 1000%. No, demon slayer is of the type you watch after harsh day with a cup of tea, chilling, laughing and pleasing your eyes with colourful animation. And from this perspective, it's perfect
Dude, I'm 39 years old and I absolutely love demon slayer and I am chomping at the bit for their next movie. I don't really read manga so i just stick to the anime itself. sometimes simple stories are nice without to much thinking. I love this show
I just read it and bro their old selves were creepy AF author has some questionable ideas for the backstories, memory loss doesn't change your personality BTW I know a person who suffered from amnesia and he didn't change personality and has the same mannerisms, got his memory back tho he got struck by lightning when he had a machete in his hands while in the middle of a field he was trying to tie up his carabao(Philippines actual national animal they say it's eagle but I'm from the Philippines and I have never seen one)
