We are an English family with some Czech roots who have saved over many years to live the dream of travelling the world with our kids. We sold our belongings, closed our business and rented our house to buy a 20 year old sailboat . We want to show the kids that there is a bigger world out there and to appreciate the simple things in life, things that you find in the sea, the woods, up mountains, along the beach , the sky and the stars.
Our dream of cruising and exploring the world's oceans is matched with a desire to live a more off-grid and sustainable lifestyle. A background as RYA instructors, flotilla skippers and RNLI crew only partly prepared us for the challenges of a live-aboard life!
From buying a boat to homeschooling the kids, from cooking on a budget to making money while we travel, from sailboat maintenance to visiting amazing places - join our journey and share in our world adventure, as well as the challenges of family life, through our series of video blogs.
Another great video, thanks :) Hope the breeze picked up for you ! I bet you are feeling the cold - sorry, this is winter :( Would be great to see you down our way in January if you can make that work. Kind regards, John.
I know this is two years ago but how many times have you nearly gone overboard by tripping on those dinghy tie down? Maybe you’ve tied them down inboard now to the blocks under the dinghy by now but those lines would drive me crazy! Happy sailing Nick
A very responsible approach, unlike far too many RU-vidrs. staying in the islands for cyclone season is never a good decision. It's only a week to NZ. I have known a few people who have lost their boats in Fiji during cyclones. An unattended boat in a cyclone pit is an invitation to mould, rats & insects. I always leave at the BEGINNING of the high: I end up motoring through the middle of the high for a day or two, but importantly I get there before the cold front which is key. I have done that trip many times delivering yachts - so far I haven't had a bad trip south. It's also almost the only trip where I will motor as soon as the speed drops - beating the south wind to NZ is the focus.
It is great to see the boys putting the time & effort into their studies. One of the most valuable classes I took Freshman year (9) in high school was typing/keyboarding which makes you so much more productive getting your work done. The boys look like they might be college bound in the future, and they might want to consider taking a couple typing classes which would definitely help them moving forward!
@@MotherShipAdrift That's a really great idea. I used a very cheap... $9 program called Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing... I am sure there are many others. It turned the task into a computer game and didn't seem like work at all. It is an essential skill... can you imagine a computer software engineer that can't type? What about an entomologist PHD candidate who can't program efficiently because he can't type?... Yeah, you have to be able to program at that level of education just to complete your studies.
Have you crossed paths with "Sailing with 6" another RU-vid sailing family. Current episodes are in Marquesas but not sure where they're t in real time!
Starting at 6:26 is an original composition on guitar by Darry called Zen Pond. You can hear it on his own Free At Sea channel. And Mum didn't even give him any credit here.
@@MotherShipAdrift So glad all of you are together again. It must be a treat for all aboard to have Rowan back in the fold. What happened to Yewan's hair... he was blond just yesterday? Look forward to the story unfolding.
@@redshifttrucking4537 it honestly is fantastic to have Rowan visit . She balances everything out nicely in the family . I am already choked that she is only her for a month though . We will update you all about her plans in our next cockpit session , Irenka
OTRO GRAN !!! GRAN !!!! GRAN VIDEO !!! FELICITACIONES IRENKA TU TRABAJO EN LOS VIDEOS ES EXCELENTE .LES MANDO UN GRAN SALUDO DESDE ARGENTINA Y BUENA PROA !!!!! p.d. saludos a Rowan !!!!
Please don’t put inflammatory seed oils in your body. Research what these do to you. Do the natives look healthy? Do Americans look healthy? Instead use organic extra virgin olive oil, coconut or avocado oils. I understand these might not always be available, but my mom just died a horrific death from eating poorly.
I turned the video off 3/4 of the way through because of the monotonous sounds, it was doing my brain in. Not to your usual standard. We now know that Woody wanted to become self-sufficient because he told us twice. I'm not making this up. Go and play the video back again, it needs better editing. Otherwise a good video as usual. Sorry for the negative comments. Michael.
I like seeing your content showing all the local customs and the lie of the land/islands. Not sure I could eat snails, didn't enjoy them when I visited France!
Great vids, love the family vlogs, was a dream of mine many many years ago, then family got started, boys reading this & wishing to sail the world... ur not shooting blanks! lol
Hello all. So nice to see you all again. The boys are really growing fast. Again thank you for sharing your lives with us. Looking forward to seeing you all in the next one.
HERMOSO VIDEO UN FONDEO INCREIBLE !!!!! QUE LINDA ISLA PARA FESTEJAR UN CUMPLEAÑOS !!!!! LES MANDO UN GRAN SALUDO A TODA LA FAMILIA DESDE LATITUD 34 S. ARGENTINA
Shame on you for posting that thumbnail of your son acting and looking like that. You caused that. Time to let him hang out with normal boys and do guy stuff. This is a disgrace what you encourage here. You caused that.
At a later time.. another sailor will arrive at this same spot .. and see the old camping spot and think to his self that he found a true primitive living area that was abandoned hundreds of years ago.
13:10 Machete used on a held in the hand coconut, not a good idea at anytime & especially not good if immediate emergency services aren't available. Fabulous video, thanks ❤️.
wow what a amazing adventure to experience with your family. I want to sail the amazon river aswell but Ive heard a lot of people that have been robbed and so on, but don't know if its exaggerated rumours. On your video everything seems cool and safe so Im hoping you can give me some info about that.. I would really appreciate it =) And Im wondering how many days it took you to sail through the river ? Love your video, take care and god bless!
There are several approaches to the Amazon by river and security will be different depending on which one you take . We felt safe in Suriname although we were wary when we got to the furthest town . You will always be safe when travelling and sailing with others . I hope that helps a bit.
Unbelievable the amount of near misses we have. I just saw a different type of sea snake in Australia …much bigger but no stripes . I bet that’s a nasty one too …
