Sadly, I am no longer doing repairs or restorations, but there is no telling what the future may bring. I will still try to respond to questions and comments as often as I can. Hi Rick, i am just wondering if there's a simple reason asto why the machine won't shutoff when lowering the switch to the off position. The contact inside pushes the copper back to disengage but it just keeps running
Enjoyed watching You’re video! I have some vintage blenders some of which I’m using but I was seriously considering buying a new one to use and realized why pay $200-$300 for a new blender with a plastic jar and electronics that will fail in a year or 2 when I can tear down and perform maintenance on the vintage well built ones like You are doing! This is awesome! Thank You so much ! Subscribed !
I just bought a mixer like this, and I think something is missing. on the tilt part there where the head hooks onto the base, is a little nib (where you took out that plate on this one), and I don't think it's supposed to look like that. Should there be a lever, push button, or rubber grommet?
I have 2 model 12s in pink with the matching pink bowls! One is for use, the other is a display queen. They both run great! And I love that terrific Ozone smell when they run!. Mine only needed cleaning, new grease and new capacitors. ( I only had to clean the commutators). I've been told that these were designed by the famous Industrial Designer Raymond Loewy and I just love the sophisticated styling! In addition the quality of the parts can't be beat! These units are superior in design function and styling when compared to any other (including Kitchen Aid) in my opinion.
You really should take this video down before others make all of these mistakes. You caused a health hazard by using non food grade grease and 3 in 1 oil.
Buenos dias tengo una batidora de esa marca y modelo no funciona muy bien pero la resistencia estaba dañada sera eso porque no funciona bien todas sus velocidades gracias saludos desde Peru
Let me forst explain that i have zero experience with electrical things. I have this sameixer, and it is smoking from the motor area. Its also making the same exact "sort of missing" sound that the mixer is making in this video. Any suggestions?
My own KitchenAid 5KPM5BER 4.8L Heavy Duty lift Bowl sound like that after a full service by myself but once the grease has settled down its very smooth & dosent hunt the motor to keep regulation of the speed,
Great video! I learned a lot. I am replacing the cord on a 1955 Mixmaster and I tried to upgrade using a grounding cord. It trips my GFCI outlet but runs fine if I disconnect the ground wire from the mixer. Do you have any thoughts on that? Thanks
couldn't see the values on resistor are their standard ranges for godd vs bad in these vintage units? EDIT Found it on another video of yours 170 to 180 180 being ideal
Appreciate you sharing your expertise with us. I have a 1950 model 12 and found your tutorial most helpful. Being up in the Himilayas technicians are few and far between. Hope my results are as good as your😂
I remember in R.O..P H .V.A.C. are instructed said if Power is going to the BOARD and now comes out replace the board. And I use live power leads to test Vacuum Cleaner motors Doesn't hurt anything unless there's a short then set off your Breaker
How much UP/DOWN play should there be in the part the dough hook hooks into (approx 3" diameter, viewable straight up looking from the inside of the bowl)? In my mixer there's about 1/4" of play up and down.
Hello from Down Under. An excellent video thanks, with some accidentally extra-helpful bits, like the broken "cutaway" cover for extra insight :) I got intrigued (and involved) by a post on a local Nextdoor (social media) forum, from a lady who was looking for the resistor in her vintage MIxmaster. Different here in Australia because of the 240V supply. And of course, impossible to source any more. I've been idly searching (and researching) the problem (being vintage myself, ha ha - and a radio restoration nut) For the life of me have not been able to figure out what that resistor does in the governor mechanism. The capacitor is explainable (I guess) to stop the switch arcing. But the resistor? Can someone enlighten me? Haven't been able to find any circuit explanations anywhere. And thanks for your great videos. The detailed and pleasant walk-throughs are a delight to a restoration fan. All the best from Melbourne. ☮🙏
Good day! I stubbled onto your video after purchasing a sunbeam and I was wondering what do you degrease your parts with? As well as what type of grease do you put back into your mixer? Also where do you get replacement parts for a mixer like this say like a new capacitor or resistor? Thank you for any help you can offer!
I know this is an old video but I just got one recently to restore, similar issue, it spins io fine (admittedly the last few speeds are redundant as it gets to 6 and goes full pelt) but it won't turn off, it'll stop spinning (most of the time) but the motor just hums and then the resistor starts smoking - changed cap and resistor and the issue remains - so frustrating.
Omg, so excited to find your site because I acquired a used KitchenAid k5ss and besides needing cleaning I want to replace the speed lever as it is bent and stuck on 10. Just wondering if I need to undo all of the stuff that you're doing to get to the lever to replace it?
In mine the thermal switch was burned up. I replaced it with a switch that resets itself. Sunbeam service told me it cannot be fixed but it works like new again.
I have a 3C and it needs fixed. I don’t have the skill, but it is smoking so I unplugged it right away and the back cover needs hammered out to fit correctly anyway you can repair I will pay.
