I own 32 of these. They are pretty impressive. I have also tossed them into several installs and my clients are super happy. The only time I have noticed these struggle is when competing with large led walls and any space that doesnt have good haze (outdoor shows). These things are amazing in haze but a waste (just like any beam fixture) without haze.
One thing none of the reviews I have found touch on this....If I run an NX4 and an EN4, can I program the EN4 to be universes 5-8 so that my 64 universe console can access 8 hardwired universes?? Same question goes with the NXP, can I link it to the NX4 and get 8 separate universes?
Wish you showed more of the other side of the room. Just looking at the emitter part and the board does not give much perspective, or show the capabilities. This was more about how to use the board/software than about the laser.
Mac Aura XB: Light Engine Luminous Output: 10,000 lumens Fixture Luminous Output Wide: 6,000 lumens Fixture Luminous Output Narrow: 4,300 lumens Peak Luminous Intensity Narrow: 220,000 cd Mac One Light Engine Luminous Output: 5,700 lumens Fixture Luminous Output Wide: 2,500 lumens Fixture Luminous Output Narrow: 1,900 lumens Peak Luminous Intensity Narrow: 375,000 cd So no, in most cases it will not be brighter than an Aura XB
Yes, and thanks for Googling that, @BartKrap :) The key for any beam effect though, at narrow, is the FC/LUX or in this case, candela (cd) measured at the center. This is the center point brightness, so it shows how at it's narrowist, the Mac One will look brighter through the air than the Aura XB at it's narrowest because the light is more concentrated. If you need a quote of either fixture, just let us know at gear@learnstagelighting.com !
Just remember, Double the lumens doesn’t mean double the output. It’s actually about 1.41 times brighter. So to the untrained naked eye, it would look about the same. Now if you deal with lights all your life you can definitely make out the tiny difference. But something like the Martin PXL would easier to see as brighter than the xb

Do you have a video on how to register for chauve showexpress I can't get past this question The last name of the president of the USA + 3 characters for the standard for stage lighting control + the character '&' + the character '/' (total = 10 characters): This question is a means of preventing automated form submissions by spambots. Could you help me?
how much power does this fixture draw at full intensity? I am curious It says 7x20 so 140 watts but sometimes they are not always drawing the full power.
If you own the Both 360 Tubes don't buy these. For the life of me I can't get these to control the 360 Tubes. The Donner transmitters work perfectly to control the 360 tubes. I'm so bummed with Chauvet for not making these compatible. I even set the same channel on the tubes and the xlr chauvet transmitter, nothing... major fail!
I haven't been able to get my led video wall to go to full blackout. When I plug it into my laptop, it does. But when I connect it to my Mac mini, its stops. Mac mini setup: out of Mac mini into black magic duo link card, out of duo link card to HDMI In Converter, out to Ethernet, to Ethernet Input on HDMI converter, HDMI out into controller.
Can you do a review on the Chauvet Synapse 4? It’s always interested me as a lighting power relay solution compared to just flipping breakers in the electrical room
This is a great device and very easy to setup and use. However, it appears that there is some timeout issue where there is no output to the DMX. I'm using Lightkey and on initial startup it can't find the node with a try again option. It then connects just fine and works great but occasionally the output just stops working. Is the device faulty or is there an idle timeout setting somewhere? Seems to be the latter when there is no activity.
Just trying to work out if you can trigger audio file and dmx at the same time looking to fit into a museum highlighting quotes as audio file reads them? Thanks
For aerial effects rays of light projected on the ceiling while the moving head is on stage, would you say the Elation Fuze Profile 305w LED engine would be a better choice than the usual Clay Paky Sharpy 230w lamp? 😊
I have one of these and coincidentally I had a DMX controller that worked with it you can plug in a midi cable to the back of it and to the DMX operator 384 and there’s a button on that DMX controller that allows you to control it also I think that fog machine is great and I’ve had it for about two years now
Thanks for the video! Really hard to see what this light can actually do based on how this was filmed. For the future, please turn off all the other lights in the background that are conflicting, like the yellow gobo, and get the beam to hit a wall so we can see the actual spot size and tell how much the R, G, B, W diverges. You never showed it actually hit a surface. A great way to help tell the quality of a light is to do a mixed color like yellow, and have it hit a wall.
Hi David, long time watcher here. I have had these since they came out so close to two years I think. I agree there isn't a tube that ticks all the boxes but the Stx 180, Astera Titan and while not a tube, the Aputure InfiniBar PB12 are the top 3 imo. The Godox TP4 is decent as well. I love these but have had to send tubes in for repair 3 times (could be the same tube 3 times or 3 different tubes) as well as the psu/charging unit replaced. I don't regret the purchase but I would recommend if you have the budget, spring for the Asteras, hopefully they will release an updated version in the near future. Also the InfiniBars are worth a look, battery life is the only issue but otherwise flawless. Keep doing what you are doing and If I may drop a request for some reviews - Ovation Rêve P-3 IP, ADJ Encore FR Pro Color, Chauvet DJ Freedom Par Q9 X4. Thank you
