I just finished Enlightenment and was so moved by it that it's difficult to contemplate how I can even pick up another book. It masterful. Far exceeded Melmoth and Essex Serpent in my opinion. Can't stop thinking about the characters and the profound questions and insights it delivered. Wow. 😮😮😮

I can see that Fullers in Hobart don’t have it at the moment, but will get more when the publisher finishes reprinting (which should be soon). We have two copies today, but probably better to order locally so you don’t have to pay postage. ❤️😊

In the USA, according to Amazon, The Axeman's Carnival won't be available until August 24, 2024, about four months from now, similar with Barnes & Noble. Amazon does have a couple of reviews (favorable) but must be non-Americans who register on Amazon's US site - one with the last name, Wallbutton - definitely a British name LOL. These selections certainly look worth looking into, thank you.
Definitely well worth waiting for 😊 and of course we are quite often behind when it comes to books coming from the USA! There are so many wonderful books out in 2024.
I read that cameras are tuned to white faces, it's a technical thing, well worth Tracey's attention, as there are so many problems with facial recognition, cameras just don't pick up all the detail in darker skin tones. It is how the cameras are set. Totally damning evidence, of white supremacy. This has to be addressed if these facial recognition apps are going to continue to be used. If the problem is fixed it will mean that paler toned faces will also lose definition.
I just finished it today! It is always sad when I finish any of his books. I never want them to end. Everyone of his books has been "his best" after a complete it. The Last Chairlift holds true to my reading experience. Funny how a long book seems like the blink of an eye. Hence, John Irving is the best author to fill my eyes and own my heart.
I would like to get in touch with Susan as I am also a great great grand daughter of Capt Tom and am planning to visit his grave in Yokohama next year....
This is such a terrific series. The way Caleb observes everyone's body language--and the way Viskic describes it--is unique in Australian literature, I reckon.
Just finished your book, I couldn't put it down. I had to keep reminding myself it was a based on a true story, beautifully written. As a Melbourne person who grew up in nearby Burwood in the late 50's and 60's, I was fascinated by the description of Ringwood.
I am half way through this wonderful work. I am taking get comfort in the solidarity it gives.... And noticed that i am essentially hiding from my husband, the book and my enraptured reading. The situational mirror across the decades gives all at once a sense of terror and solace. Thank you Anna for writing this (so proud of my signed preorder copy... That's tucked under the cushions of my sitting chair)
