Mindat is not a reliable resource. This is not a private property, this is a mineral claim, check through the MLAS claim database system. If you are not sure, don't collect, and certainly don't post videos about it publicly, you are only making people jealous and encouraging trespassing. (yes, it is crown land, you can visit, but it is also a mining claim, removing material is pretty much illegal without permission from the respective claim-owner.) You can inquire with local clubs about access. They have contact with the owners of the site.
There was guessing 150k worth of outdoor equipment , aprox 5 years ago in that cave . And alooot of stored food . Its a strange mystery as to wtf its all about . But even then .. a bear could have been an issue for whoever lived there .
those notches wouldve either held timbers, or it was prospecting to check where to chase, there is every possibility some are from people looking for gems, or checks of copper.
One of my favourite spots, but it's unfortunate to see how popular it's gotten recently. I've seen numerous videos/posts about it online in the last little while. Only a matter of time before they seal it. The "end" of the main adit isn't a backfill, it's a collapsed ore chute. Most of those ore passes are all loaded with 50+ feet of muck. There's a pretty significant section of that mine behind that collapse.
@TheDirtyRockHounder it's been collapsed for as long as I've been going there, but you can still get by it crawling over top. I wouldn't recommend it. The ore pass is still full above, just bridged over.
every abondoned, active, and available claim is available through to the government of ontario website as on overlay on google earth. every body and there grandmother has access to abondoned mine locations
Awesome ! , There is a huge bear hanging around the far tunnel eating from the barrels of old rotten canned food . Thankfully you didnt encounter it 😄.
Wow what an adventure! Just love these remote locations lost to time and only a select few get to witness it in person. Very nice pieces you collected. Your worst fear review before going in was good.... LOL. Thank you for sharing another great video of your adventure. Lloyd.
Thanks Lloyd! I thought I did a pretty good job of ignoring that fear. The only time it got me a bit was at the creepy door and as I was crawling on my belly getting out. I kept thinking something was going to pull me back in. Haha
The black botryoidal black mineral I think is bitumen, it used to be documented there in Bigwood. That area has some nice minerals occurring and I have never been there but will go some day. Yes thanks for sharing this great video. Lloyd.
So you didn't find to much to bring home, but you were so close. It's been 10 years or more since I was there. That massive garnet amphibolite sure is nice stuff, and surely you must have found some heavy magnetite, and the graphite is in millimeter sized silvery flake. It was nice to see these places again. Thanks for sharing your trip north of Hwy 124, it was a good one. Lloyd.
@@TheDirtyRockHounder I think it was R E Bain property, but there is lots on the north side of the road to Lake of many Islands. I studied Lount Tp. for a good while. OGS J. Satterly documents.
You found my "honey Hole" I started that hole when I was there 8 to 10 years ago, I recognize it because of the rocks piles around the small tree trunk. Yes I almost filled a 5 gallon bucket there. So you need to get permission, you must email Northbay mineral club. Last year I had s quick stop over but not collecting there and there was no signs posted, but I believe Northbay mineral club has authority over this collecting site. This site also has staurolite occurring but it is very rare to find a complete crystal. Oh yes the elusive grapefruit size garnet has to be there somewhere.... Thanks for sharing a great video of this classic Ontario site. Lloyd.
It's good to see new rockhounding content. I have almost watched all your vids and hope to see more in the future. The one piece you found that was blackish and you think is some kind of iron ore is what i think is "nipissing black granite" which is really plagioclase. You can find it in and around River Valley in places on the bush road to the garnet spot, and driving by the turn off to the garnet mine in places out to Glen Afton. Very nice rock to get and only found in Sudbury District. Thanks for sharing your good videos. Lloyd.
This was on private property with no permission. The owners have reached out to me to request that you remove all social media posts including facebook that are about this location. Sorry to say you have ruined it for other rock hounders who have actually made appointments.
Yous have a tough mentality to put up with those deer flies . 😄 I dont have the patience for them !! . Was simular at the open pit iron mine @ Dane ont . The rocks are beuty but the bugs were swarming like killler bees .
@@TheDirtyRockHounder just from warnings from locals, the taste on my tongue from doing lapidary around those colors, research on "yellow/red lead" is what confirmed it for me
That is a great video. I found a rock exactly the same but with very bright blue and green huge crystals with black inclusions. Found in Essex in the uk so obviously it didn’t originate from where I found it.
I have not even cracked the box. lol. I guess I should test to see if it works. I am headed to Bancroft many times this summer. July 5-8th for sure at Pushkin lake do lead some hounding with family. . 😊
Very cool. I am a long time hounder. Respect what you are doing. Thank you for sharing. I have a lapidary machine if you ever want to borrow it. I am east of London.
Thank you! Have you ever tried garnets with your lapidary machine? If not, if you are ever passing through Barrie let me know, I would be happy to give you some to try.
This site is definitely not open to public collecting anymore unfortunately. From what I understand there might be a way to get permission through a local club but that might not be true anymore.
