With modern release systems there is much less reason to remain unhooked. There are pros and cons to both, but in our experience the risk of tangling or incorrectly hooking in at the last minute outweighs the benefits that come with staying unhooked. All it takes is to pick up your bar the wrong way etc. and you can end up in strife. It's a hold over from the days where release systems were much more clunky and unreliable, likely still a good idea if you are on older equipment. Do what you feel more comfortable with, but we no longer encourage people to stay unhooked, at least in our conditions here.

It's a bad habit to keep your arms on the bar. The way you hold on it to pull up bar. You have to place your arms simply like you. Hold in the flag, both arms should blaze with the thumbs up simple texting. Absolutely changed the way your muscles work. Because you're flying wing the same as when you fly. The flag comes up both arms, you switch the direction. Both arms thumbs up, enjoy.

Hi Julian, no worries October is usually great for wind at lake weyba. If you take a look at our website there is a guide on the different wind seasons here but Oct is usually pretty good in most years even if we have and early or late season.
For the most part, yes, but local laws etc. may vary so best to check. You can check in with the KA (Kiteboarding Australia) as the org covers wing foiling now and are pretty up to date with different state/territory regulations.

I am 80KG riding a north 26 liter surfboard. I own a 8 CARVE I can use from 17+. I owned a 10 CARVE but ripped it in half. Should I get a 9NEO or 10NEO? On one hand, everyone says size down on the NEO, which leads me to 10 CARVE to 9 NEO. Also, the old: “I don’t even surf with kites bigger than 9s”. But is the overlap between a 9 NEO and 8 CARVE too great? Will it be too much repetition in my quiver? 7s are not an option as in Puerto Rico it never gets that windy. I hear a lot about the low end grunt on a neo. Does anyone know the low end/high end differences between a neo and carve? What is the low of a NEO 9 vs a NEO 10 on a surfboard? Thanks so much 🙏🏻

I'd probably stick with the 10 in the Neo. If you're riding your 8m at 17+ I think the 9m Neo would have too much overlap. You could get away with a 9m, especially if you are getting the SLS, they do have good low end power. But you'd be losing out on the bottom end and not really gain much vs a 10m in my opinion, especially if you don't want to go down to a 7m for your smaller one later. Haven't ridden the Carve that much so hard to compare. I would expect the Neo SLS to be more powerful for the same size, especially bottom end grunt. Personal preference really, but unless you like to ride small/underpowered in particular, I think you'd be better off sticking with 10m. Hope that helps!
This is one of the best beginner tutorial vids on youtube. I immediately looked up the location to sign up for lessons. But, alas I'm a couple of thousand km south in Victoria. George is an excellent communicator. If he can accomplish this much in a 6 minute video imagine the learning experience in a full lesson. Had my first practice session on the beach yesterday, glad I found this video. Thanks for sharing.
Konrad are a bit of a smaller Australian brand, so definitely not as much info out there as some others! They've got new '22 equipment on the way including new boards. We're hoping to have some soon, so we should be able to do a video on that one when they get here too!
You are lucky to be in very shallow water. On my home lake the water is very deep , the wind often side on from the small place to go to the water without trees or other plants so it is quite difficult to use your technique and there is a big tree on the shore just on the way between the position where I can park my kite on the shore and the perpendicular position where I may swim with the bar, the lines and the board. In addition the wind is very perturbâtes on the shore which is also quite steep! Any recommendations for this configuration?🤓
Hi Nicolas. Your location doesn't sound ideal. Without seeing it, it isn't really possible to make a recommendation. If the wind was cross onshore, you could swim out and do a boat launch technique, but with cross shore conditions, that could result in needing to abandon your gear if it doesn't go perfectly. Considering that a drift launch or boat launch can fail from time to time, we wouldn't recommend you use these options unless you are willing to totally release and possibly lose/damage your kite. If you have a boat, with a small motor and can use it in this location, there are options which we can discuss if you have that option.
@@nicolasboudet9302 yeah that makes it pretty hard to self launch. If you can have someone assist you can swim out while they hold the kite, a bit tricky but can be done. On your own it is quite difficult. If you don't have clear access to the water you will need to enter the water with your lines wound (after setting up on the beach). You then hold your kite and then unwind them, letting them drift down wind before putting your kite down to drift. Do not let go of your kite until your lines are fully unwound and appear to be free and clear. This is quite a risky and dangerous method, as if anything goes wrong during the process you will likely not have your safety in action yet, and will need to fully release the kite meaning it can get lost or damaged etc. It only really works if there is enough current/wind to pull your lines down wind and you often need to swim backwards while holding all your gear etc. If you're in deep water it can be very hard to stay up wind of your lines as your kite will want to drag you down wind too. You can do this method with a small pontoon like a SUP or kayak which is anchored in the water instead of a boat, this makes it a lot easier but it is still a risky method. Honestly I wouldn't recommend it unless you are quite experienced, and even then, there are a lot of ways it can go wrong because the entire time from the beach to the launch you effectively have no flagging safety system. Even when you unwind your lines and let them out it is easy to get a tangle, and this means your safety line might not be running free. If you look up some boat launching videos (we haven't made one yet unfortunately) this might give you some ideas on how to handle your location. Your conditions are similar to a boat launch, where you have minimal space and deep water. Unfortunately some locations can be simply too difficult and dangerous to self-launch safely, sounds like yours might be quite challenging. Always better to get assistance where you can.

Our updated version of this video actually covers sorting your bar out on the beach: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v4gHAo__bHY.html If you walk up the safety line to the kite, don't drag the kite to you, you'll find your lines don't tangle as easily. Then, when you get to the beach, run the bar back out down wind. Whatever you do, don't disconnect the lines. You can't really have a tangle because the lines haven't been disconnected. What you'll have is a series of loops that you can easily tease out. We've done this literally thousands of times, with no tangles. Hope that helps.
I’m with K Shred on this one. Why can’t Duotone make a bag roomy enough to accept the wing after your session? It would seem a couple additional inches in bag diameter would not be unreasonable for a wing that cost nearly $1,000. I have two Echo’s and two Slicks and they each require a gymnast’s skill to roll up small enough to go back into the bag they came out of.

Hi, and thanks! Yep, the current Spirit wings are all supposed to fit on the new SLS mast/fuselage. Tested it so far with the current 950 & 700 Carve. Just tested it with a GT 565 we have here and it fits perfect. Had it out for a couple of go's now, rides very nice. Similar feel since it's the same wings, but much lighter and feels very agile. Feels great on the board, using it with the Pace the whole thing is very light underfoot.
Thanks Joe! Yeah we don't recommend wrapping your lines if you can avoid it, as you're effectively disabling your safety & release until they're all unwound again. So long as you've got a little bit of clear shoreline to access the water this method is usually pretty safe and effective.
Hi Again, I watched this video yesterday and today in my second session ever I got up on the foil today effectively in both directions. I have been kite foiling for a while, this helped as once on the foil I was fine. But wanted to say thanks again for the video, as I did exactly as you described and that helped heaps. But man, all that pumping what a tough sport and full body workout! Regards.
@@irf888 Awesome, that's great to hear it's helped and you're going well with it! Wing foiling is awesome fun but definitely uses a lot of muscles you don't normally use, it can be pretty tough on the shoulders until you've got some sessions under your belt for sure.
Haha, yeah we did think about giving it a go like that just to see if it works. I'm not sure it would perform that well on a wave as the rail/tail shape isn't really designed for it, but it would probably get you out in a pinch if you only had the one board.

Hi, this isn't really intended to be a full comprehensive video, we just filmed it while we were doing it as there were no others available at the time. Some information is better than none. Glad Duotone now have an official video up, this wasn't available when we shot and uploaded this one. I will add it to the description here as no doubt a professional video from the manufacturer is going to be more detailed that one we slapped together on a quiet afternoon.
Unit 2021 Jaime. It's the first generation. All the Duotone gear releases in Australia early for the European Summer which will be 2021. Confusing we know but it's always been that way with kiting gear, now foil gear too.
Still got the boom version - Echo. This Unit was developed specifically for the surf market. Light weight, so you can easily let it drift while you're on a wave, but that crazy little bend makes the ergonomics pretty nice. We've used the Wasp and the Naish, both good units, but this one is a little different and customer feedback has been good. The Echo is still the bomb when it comes to wing dinging, where high wind stability for jumps is the focus. 👌
It's really been great Irving. We've used mostly the 12mtr so far. It launches really well in light wind, almost as good as the light wind Juice kite & we will likely replace our 13 Juice in the school with the 12 SLS Neo for this reason. We are expecting the durability to be even better than the regular Neo too. Stable, doesn't overfly the students. All up, a great school kite.
