Going to Italy in October this year. Been looking at getting a e30 touring and importing it. But I’m curious on import duty fees. I saw somewhere it was 2.5% and also shipping I read is about 2,000 usd. Any tips?
@driveonthewildside
@driveonthewildside 3 месяца назад
Import duty fees are 2.5%, you are correct. Italy is actually a pretty good place to buy cars due to its relatively dry climate (rust is less of a problem). You will need to consider the cost of marine insurance and also, it would be advisable to get the car inspected for mechanical problems/background check pre purchase.

The ones before 2019 had a smaller engine, and some had tranny problems. Not sure if MAzda had a recall or not. You can always buy an NC2 MX-5 like I did.
@driveonthewildside
@driveonthewildside 3 месяца назад
yeah, they had the 1.5l engine and weren’t as reliable, but the reason I chose the ND RF over the NB and NC is because it is the most modern and is better if the driver wants to turn heads (the latter can also be said about the NA)

Ok so a few things of note. Please don't take any of this as hostile. - The presentation is great. - The editing could use a bit of work (both audio and visual). - When you're discussing a particular car, you probably want to find footage of that car. Showing footage of an AE111 while discussing the AE92 seriously confused me. There is also no mention that after the AE86 chassis, all Levin/Truenos were FWD (the only thing I don't like about my AE111) - When finding these prices, GooNet is great reference (and I've personally used them before), however, beForward provides the same service without the higher markups. You should probably also mention that those two companies provide the service of buying an as-is car, so whatever issues it has you have to figure out after. - I heard bringing these cars up to MOT standards can be quite difficult in the UK, which is why the prices may be so much higher when buying local - You showed a Skyline sedan for more than £15K, if you had shown a R32 or R33 coupe or sedan, those could be found around that price point. R34s are much harder to come by, especially around that price point because of all the hype surrounding it. You'd be hard pressed to find a R34 coupe for less than £15K - The Cedric part failed to mention the chassis or sister car names, "Gloria" and "Cima" which could also be found for the same price point and some also had the same engines, though you did show a Y34 at the end. Some even came with AWD. Overall, it's not a bad video concept, and it feels like you had your idea and knew what you wanted to do but then rushed it out rather than putting in the time to polish everything. Overall, not a great first impression, but keep at it, the potential is there. Also, you should probably leave a credit to the people who's footage you're using in one of the corners of the screen.
@driveonthewildside
@driveonthewildside 3 месяца назад
Hi, thanks for that extremely helpful comment, I am actually considering making a part 2 of this so I will take all of this on board. - The AE111 clip was put there as I like to add cinematics to keep the audience engaged and I couldn’t find one of an AE92 GT-Z. So I used the AE111 instead (which also came with a GT-Z trim and is also a more affordable option. - I didn’t know about beForward, the prices are way better. - That is a fair point (and probably why you would want to save money when buying an imported car) - I know the Skyline coupe is expensive but the GTT in sedan form is just a more practical car and generally cheaper which is why I included it. - Lastly the Nissan Cedric is an unusual car which gave me a problem finding the generation I wanted to talk about. Also, I try to give my self 35 seconds per clip, so I don’t have time to mention everything about the car.
@theziggingzag7494
@theziggingzag7494 3 месяца назад
@@driveonthewildside I don't know about all AE111 chassis, but I do know that the AE110 series of Levin and Trueno did not come with a GT-Z trim. There was the FZ (which I believe is a AE110) and the XZ (the only non-4AGE AE111), then there's the BZ-G (which I have), BZ-V and BZ-R. All 3 BZs came with high compression 20 valve "blacktop" 4AGE engines. Great for revving high, but almost impossible to turbo stock. Toyota did this weird thing where the AE111 code was also given to regular Corollas, Spacios, Sprinters and Sprinter Caribs, so it's a bit confusing. Looking forward to the next video though, put in the time and effort to polish it. I'm sure it'll come out great

Miata NB is perfect for a sporty car. Why not use it as a daily? It's super reliable and comfortable enough. I think you missed the fact that the NB weighs about 1000 kg and if you get the right one, it has 146 hp. It would be one of the fastest on your list.
@driveonthewildside
@driveonthewildside 4 месяца назад
the reason I said don’t use it as a daily is that I put practicality as a priority in a car (I have two dogs and friends who may want a ride). So two seats and a 150l trunk kinda put me off. Other than that, it’s a great car.
@mihaiserbanescu8676
@mihaiserbanescu8676 4 месяца назад
@@driveonthewildside yeah, it is not the most practical one but I think as a sporty vehicle, it's one of the best on your list. The BMW would be next, but let's face it, no one is going to buy a 318, you're gonna get a 320 or better. so judging by that, I think the BMW is the best all-rounder. I don't think the Toyota can compete as a sporty car with the other 2 because first it's fwd and secondly, it's a toyota 1.8. It won't go any faster than the others.

For a first time driver, these are too expensive to keep running and not alone in fuel cost. That Honda Civic was my first car, imagine that, I have had 7 cars since then. Just get an electric up or citigo instead, cheap to run, no repairs and quick
