Thanks Goob. Just finished up your IAT videos. I hope to finish up your PCT videos finally. Hopefully I’ll be done before you start the FT. Anyways, thanks so much for all these videos. I really enjoy your approach to sharing your treks. Peace and happy trails to ya.
Thanks Goob for this series. I really enjoyed following your IAT trek. Seems like a peaceful, low-stress trail. Much of your trek reminds me of my home state of Ohio. Thanks again. Peace and happy trails to ya
Congratulations Goob on another NST. Been following your adventures since we hiked together on the AT. I may see you out on the FL Trail. Be sure to check with the FL Trail Association before your hike. There is likely going to be a LOT of detours in the big bend area due to Helene. Possibly a lot of miles of detours. FL roads are not as forgiving as WI roads. Gary G
I’ve never counted my calorie intake, just eat what I feel I need. Because this trail is so easy I’m probably burning less than half the calories compared to any other trail I’ve done.
Do you deviate from this trail often? Instead of the 43 mile CR from Cornell to just past Gilman, I also simply walked straight to Gilman on 64 and then on Trucker Lane to the trail. This route was 24 miles instead of 43. It made zero sense to me to do an extra 19 miles for essentially nothing. I’m finding the routing of the IAT a little frustrating in this regard. There seems to be a lot of bonus miles for no good reason. I am curious about your thoughts on this.
Only the named segments are “official” trail. The connector routes are more of a suggestion to get you from one trail head to the next based on a couple factors like avoiding the busier roads and still following a rough outline of the last glacial ice sheet. In total I still followed about 99% of the connector routes as laid out.
Very much enjoy the Ice Age Trail. Thanks for gear review. Every trail is differed and thanks for sharing the trail. Great looking flag of the Ice Age Trail. Enjoy your triple crown trip. Looking forward to the Florida Hike. Stay Safe and HIKE ON!!!
You will need those waterproof socks for Florida. It looks like a whole lot of wading through swamps at the south end. I would skip that part of the hike. You will probably do it. There is a place on the that trail called Thank God Island. The only dry land for miles. Glad you finished the Ice Age Trail and enjoyed Wisconsin!
I hiked a lot of trails including the triple crown, AZ, CO, FL and the Long trails and would like to do another long trail before I'm too old, but the incomplete nature of the North Country, Ice Age and others discourages me. I prefer more of a continuous trail with minimum road walks.
Congratulations Goob! I haven’t watched all of them yet, but most! Really enjoyed this trail. The birds chirping, the forest canopy, the breakfasts, lunches and dinners and your stealth spots. Seems like a very friendly place in all regards. Glad I tagged along. Looking forward to your next one!
Glad you had a good time. It is an acquired taste I suppose. I love hiking in the woods of Wisconsin. The bugs are the biggest problem. It's more of a spring/fall thing for me. The big views are OK, but I'm more of woodsy type. It's getting so bad in some places where you have to haul out your own crap and you can't bring your dog. Not for me.
Nice video. I disagree about the trekking poles. Chances are that those plastic collars split because the tubes have stretched. That may lead to the tube splitting or the internal piece slipping. Consider a hammock for the FT. 50+ years ago we had jungle hammocks. They were a lot less work than having to build a platform to get out of the muck. Also for cold weather camping consider a pocket warmer that burns lighter fluid. It can warm you and dry clothing. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
Great Job Goob. I like Oboz but I don't like their Ofit insole, Once I put a heavier insole in them I love the fit and wear, But all I get is the sawtooth 2 mid. I thought the Ice Age Trail was awesome. It might not of had all the views like other trails nut it was nice to see a place I have never been. Awesome Job.
Enjoyed watching but that being said the Ice age trail was the first one of your hikes that I wasn't inspired to want to hike. It seemed uninspiring and just blah. Can't wait for your next adventure.
Thanks for the journey and sharing your thoughts and experiences. I’ve learned a lot!! I recently read of a bear attack in Wisconsin. Do you have any additional information/comments about the bears?
First of all, congratulations on completing the trail. I saw that you loved and in the last videos you weren't ready to finish the trail. Have fun at the triple crown event. I did my first multiday hike last week. Very enjoyable, but also very taxing physically. I'm still amazed you can walk all these days continuously. Cheers.
Her Goobs, I discovered that Army Surplus stores have a terrific selection of backpacking supplies. I found a great selection of 1 person tents that are very light and not that expensive. And a much larger selection of hiking poles than the other high price chain stores. There is an Army store near me that I've never been to. Like a great candy store.
Looking forward to doing the Ice Age soon. I watched a few of your videos and gonna go back and clean up the ones I missed. I may be doing the FT next year as well. Later, bro! 🤘🕓
Morning Goob, we’ve enjoyed watching your thru hikes. The Ice Age Trail seems to have more hotel stays. Do you have a rough idea what someone should budget for this trail? Thanks and waiting for the Florida Trail.
Congrats on another trail in the books. 6 to go. We know you are planning the Florida trail in January 2025 but how about the Pacific Northwest Trail later in the year or the New England trail in Autumn? Always enjoy you videos. We are one of those people who had never heard of the Ice Age trail before you hiked it. It was beautiful and very interesting. Thanks for taking us along.
Congratulations! I’ve enjoyed following along on this trail as I have on all of them, but I have especially loved this one. Go enjoy a well-deserved break and eat some veggies so you stay healthy for Florida. I’m looking forward to the next one.
Hey Goob, Great hike, enjoyed your positivity and can-do attitude. I've day hiked about half of the IAT and enjoyed seeing what's ahead for me. Really looking forward to watching you hike the Florida Trail or any other long trail you hike. Paul
Thank you Goob! Great trail log! Looking forward to your Florida trail adventure ! Be safe on your journeys. And,once again, thanks for all the great trail in for you share, it truly helps me❤
