I have decided to set up this channel in order to help share my experiences of living under the mist of social anxiety and depression, the two tend to come as a pair. In sharing my experiences with you I hope it at least offers some comfort in showing that you are not alone in living with this condition.

Hello Danny. Great to catch up on your videos over the last year. Please remember that regular interactions with people are an essential support, whether these are with friends, colleagues or support staff at a drop-in centre. We all need to be face-to-face with other humans on a regular basis, otherwise there's a risk that our perceptions and evaluations will get skewed. I realise you recorded this in Vancouver, so I hope you have folk there to chat with in real time whom you can trust and relate to. Best wishes, and looking forward to your next update.

Hey, thank you for taking the time to watch some of my videos and leaving a comment. I appreciate the kind words. I completely agree that regular interactions with people are so important. I do my best to maintain a healthy level of this, which can be a huge effort at times. Since recording this video I have moved back to Dublin and started work as Vancouver was not working out for me. I am much happier in Ireland. I will post a new update soon,....

My girlfriend is suffering with anxiety, depression and has been unemployed for a while. I am working full time and we are renting privately and it's getting tougher day by day...We live in the UK any advise you can give us please?
@themistofsocialanxietyandd3008
Hi Jean, thank you for reaching out. I am not a professional, but I can relate to your girlfriends situation. I will let you know the things that help me put a more positive spin on things. If needs be you could make an appointment to discuss the situation with a GP . You could also look up the full range of services available in your country online and see what would work best. I think the most important thing to do in order to stop drowning in these feelings is to keep busy, focus your mind on other things like reading, listening to podcasts, exercise etc I think any form of exercise (even going for a walk) does help to clear your head and bring about a feel good factor. Finding something you are passionate about and spending time focusing on that is another important thing to do, it helps calm the restless soul. There are numerous videos on RU-vid that deal with these topics and I find that watching them can indeed offer some comfort.(even if it is just knowing that you are not alone in how you are feeling). I am not sure if I have helped to answer your questions, If you need any more help or suggestions I am more than happy to help.

here's a few tips to try Find the reasons why you are shy - the first step in solving an issue is understanding why you have it. Be at ease about yourself - this makes it less difficult Just do it - you will feel better by taking action - especially by doing activities that stretch your limits. (I discovered these and more ideas on Martos Magic Method site )

I'm struggling right now with unemployment.I know that I have a lot of bad habits, however I've had my fair share of mental health issues and addiction issues. (9 months clean&sober now though!) I'm only 22 and have been hospitalized twice for mental health (psychosis/anxiety/depression) and been to rehab 3 times. So even though I'm relatively as stable as I could be at this point, I remain unemployed because of lack of motivation as well as social anxiety. Once I blacked out and embarrassed myself during a presentation. I isolate due to an irrational fear of people. I'm lucky enough to be on mental health assistance and have my own apartment which I'm grateful for. I'm also grateful for the Internet simply because it connects us to those who are similar when it would otherwise be difficult to. I just need to push myself to find something that makes me happy. Anyway congrats on moving forward and thanks for sharing.

Those who lay down and rot (most NEETs and wizards) are the true MARTYRS of the Human Condition. Any thinking person understands that life is absurd. This is because life inherently lacks meaning and purpose, in and of itself. Now, some people are lucky enough to never come to this realization. This is because they are either too stupid to even consider it, or they are too happy with their lives to question life's meaning. However, most normal people will eventually entertain the notion that life is absurd at some point in their life. This contemplation is usually precipitated by some form of stress in that person's life (death in the family, a break-up etc). Nevertheless, while the vast majority of people will eventually acknowledge this truth, almost all of them will then actively blind themselves to it. This blinding is achieved by creating their own meaning and purpose in life. Most people will create meaning by choosing to focus on relationships and child-rearing, while others will choose pursuits like ****ing STD-infected sluts, careers and hobbies, as well as intellectual activities like art, science and philosophy. This choice itself is irrelevant. What matters is that these people have acknowledged the core truth that life is absurd, yet they willingly (or absentmindedly) choose to forget or downplay this truth by occupying their minds with these created meanings. To employ a metaphor, these people have chosen to 'pull the wool over their eyes' for the sake of whatever happiness they can eke out in their existence. There is nothing wrong with this. Created meaning is still meaning - this cannot be denied. Nonetheless, created meaning is a secondary meaning. The only primary meaning in life is this: Life is absurd. My contention here today is that the act of forgetting primary meaning is itself a BETRAYAL of primary meaning. It is a betrayal of the fact that life is absurd. Those who have chosen to lay down and rot have embarked on a life where the realization of primary meaning is a daily, if not hourly, occurrence. Through either choice or circumstance, those who LDAR live a life that is mostly free from the distractions of created meaning. Sex, relationships, child-rearing: All of these common secondary meanings are absent. As a result, those who lay down and rot will embrace the truth more frequently than the blissfully ignorant. Those who LDAR are HEROIC and VIRTUOUS in their constant acknowledgment of the truth, while those who forget are steeped in their BETRAYAL of primary meaning. Those who LDAR will die contemplating the fact that life is absurd. And what is martyrdom but death for an ideal? We are MARTYRS, my friends. We are holy.

+subwoofer359 Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, it means a lot to know people are watching and hearing what they think. the key to overcoming the worst pats of mental illness is by realising that by keeping it in you are simply causing it to grow, by been open about it you weaken the grasp it holds over you....

Differences = Evolution. The perspectives of those who struggle socially are unique and necessary. Personally, as painfully awkward as I can be, I wouldn't trade myself for anything in the universe. Each of us sit in a place in life where things look a little differently than they will to the next person. Evolution, particularly our advanced psychological evolution as human beings, requires a vast array of perspectives, which while subjective, are all valuable. Keep being different, if it's what compels you.
@tammyluu940

Hey, I'm sorry that you are feeling stuck. I know that feeling as I've been through that myself. I was waiting on a job for over a year only to find out that I probably won't get it because of my medical history with SA. It sucks that they strung you along and gave you hope only to find out that you won't even get it. I really think you should continue on with the course and not drop out of it. Even though you said you have a lot of experience, it doesn't hurt to have more. Who knows, maybe a position will open up earlier than what they told you. Hang in there.

I think it's great that you haven't given up hope in finding employment. I myself am struggling to find a full time job and I understand completely how you feel about feeling uneasy about the uncertainty in your life. I don't want to feel useless but it's hard to have any confidence in myself when I struggle with the fear of being humiliated and rejected. I feel like it just exacerbates the anxiety and in turn making me feel more worthless. Do you have any tips on how you keep negative thoughts from creeping up?
@themistofsocialanxietyandd3008
Hi Tammy thank you for watching this video and taking the time to comment on it. Although I have often come close to giving up hope I have realized that if you let hope go then simply nothing can/will happen, you will remain stuck frozen in time unable to progress on ones journey towards a better life. It is HOPE that fuels this journey and leads to progression. To give up on hope is a huge mistake. Keep your head up and believe in yourself, I know its hard but it is this hope that keeps me going despite struggling with social anxiety/depression. I know there is so much more to me than where I am at now, I deserve more and I am going to be a success. Hmm that's a good question, I will do my best to answer it. The first thing I suggest is to accept that social anxiety is something in your life that you have to deal with, you do not have to hide it or be ashamed with it, socially anxious people are often the kindest most sensitive people in society, so it is not a bad thing as it can be worked on and brought to a manageable level. So accept yourself just the way you are, you are perfect. The second thing that I find helps is to identify what your passion in life is, what is the one thing that you enjoy doing most, reading writing drawing gym etc. In identifying this and pursuing it I believe this has an extremely therapeutic/calming effect on the individual. A third one would be to LOVE yourself like you would a family member, bestfriend etc and treat yourself exactly as you would theose people in your life. The last thing you would do is put them down so never put yourself down, there is only one of you and you are and should be the most important person in YOUR life. Become your own life coach, your number one project is YOU. I could go on but these are the main things that I live by... Feel free to ask more or even ask me to record a video on a subject.. all the best D
@tammyluu940
@tammyluu940 9 лет назад
Thank you so much for your kind words and advice. Loving myself is the one thing I have a hard time doing. You are right about treating myself as I would if I were one of my family members. I would NEVER treat them the way I treat myself. I never really thought about it that way and it's a really good perspective. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question! You seem to be doing a lot better than before so you give me hope.
