This song is about all I’ve lost. In particular my son Brian who took his life when he was 24. His birthday is August 16th. Love this song and everything by Patti Smith. She’s a poet of the finest order.
The song is interpreted as being the lonely desperation of living in a gritty, poverty, crime filled urban area. Amazing song. I love the way the actual poultry parts represent human parts (backs, thighs, breasts, hearts ) and WINGS are nearly FREE (both price wise inexpensive and almost able to fly away)
Ironically I'm having a Sunday's Sunday after all these years. A day of self reflecting takes me back to my music discoveries. The Sundays and Cranberries duos was primarily in my pure and innocent 90's secluded dream world.
This album is equal to Fairport's 'Liege And Lief' by any stretch of the imagination. I've been playing it since I discovered it in 1981, and it is timeless, utterly timeless. Thank you to all the members of the band for creating it. Love from Wales.
