If it was first titled in Illinois there’s a good chance it was passed to the Illinois national guard by the US Army. As of fifteen years ago the ING still had M1008s and M1009s in use on bases and it’s very possible that they still do, many of these trucks were sold or donated to guard bases in various states and police departments through the LEASO program.

DId you have to put something on the ground to keep the area clean?

Yes. The stuff lasts a long time. I have some landscape rocks that got a good coating and they’re still repelling water a year later.

Did it change the way the belts jump around when it's running?

I didn’t notice a lot of change in the belts. I’ll watch tomorrow and see how much they jump

Very nice. I hope to get one of these setups after the economy improves (hopefully) and I get one of those adapters for a Suburban seat in the back.

I wonder if you can get it apart and figure out why the needle is going over so far towards the negative?

I wish I had thought of that before I put my dash back together. I’ll have to wait until I have the motivation to pull it back out! Until then, a good whack on the dash is the solution.

Don't know what a m1009 is, but I like the truck (aside from the diesel), It's in VERY good condition!

When I drain my oil I put it in a sprayer and spray it all up underneath the truck until everything is nice and oiled up. El cheapo method😂

A WW2 veteran told me he was tasked to take apart dozens of small airplanes that were destined for England. He proudly dipped every bit and bolt and heavily coated all critical parts. Job done, the airplanes were packed up and shipped off. Several months later, he was reassigned and shipped to England...where he degreased everything and put them all together.

So that's what I thought. I made several attempts at it without success. If you had a good machine shop near by they could probably bore them out perfectly. I just didn't have the proper tools.

I did a Fluidampr (p/n: 800191) on my second M1009 - no rubber to rot ever, all silicone fluid, welded-in weight (no leaks). I noticed it was quieter inside the cab when I did the Fluidampr - all told I believed it was worth it for the coin (until I had to sell it mid-restoration). Hint for getting some working room in there - pull the fan shroud (then push it onto the fan), then unbolt the fan after you loosen the alternators. Fan and shroud come out at the same time and you have a whole +8" of space to work with. Might as well do belts if you're in there... and inspect the radiator core and the front crank seal. Anything you touch, you look at critically.

I also did the Fluidampr on mine. Money well spent.

Did it change the way the belts jump around when it's running I've heard they all do it and from what I've read it's torsional forces that are characteristic to the 6.2 ?
@Real_Tim_S
@Real_Tim_S 3 месяца назад
@@drjohnsonhungwell5115 every device with a pulley can influence the belt behavior. Most influential are the input and the largest outputs - in the case of the 6.2 in a CUCV, the alternators have the biggest secondary effect on the belt due to the uneven torque load of the alternator phases. There are damper pullies but the simplest options are so called "overrunning pullies", which reduces one of the conditions of the alternator's influence, by allowing the alternator rotor to free-wheel ahead of the belt as the flex catches up. With a fixed tension belt system (v-belt vs serpentine with a dynamic spring-loaded tensioner), you will never fully eliminate the resonance of the belt - this resonance is related to the distance between each pully sheeve and the torque pulse, which varries with both engine RPMs (frequency) and charging current (amplitude). To your specific question, I never looked at the belt before and after, so I can't answer with an observation - but it wouldn't be my primary reason for putting in a Fluidampr.
@markelrod814
@markelrod814 3 месяца назад
@drjohnsonhungwell5115 these belts do not jump around at all if equipment is installed properly. This is 1 of the smoothest engines ever manufactured. Belt play is typically from incorrect type/size of belt and/or bent brackets and/or to much slack in the belts.

For the dome light wire you have taped to the ceiling - note that the interior without sound-deadening is steel. I used thin yet strong magnets with mine, taped inside a wire loom cover. No holes drilled, and you can remove it later if you feel like it.

I had two of these - wrecked one (thanks Uber), and was mid-restore on the second when I lost my storage and had to get rid of it in a hurry. I miss my M1009... It would go anywhere I wanted it to, was easy to work on (if you understood the quirks), simple, no BS. Bunch of good people on Steel Soldiers to chat with. I think I'll get another (and maybe a M1008/1028 to go with it). It's like having an itch that needs to be scratched - I must have diesel square body.
