Always wonder whos able to live there? 1M+$ homes and hard to get in and off the island. Unless you live near the Ferries and work in sf, i dont see how a family can make enough to afford it
My only exposure to Alemeda was not a positive experience. I was installing a new kitchen in a dinky condominium off webster st. I couldnt park in the complex so i had to lug all my equipment and supplies about a quarter mile up to the work site . The management was rude and unreasonable. When i went to lunch i ate at a fast food rest. On Webster. The place was in total dissaray with one person on duty and the tables all cluttered with trash. It was about the most miserable job i did in 4 years at Sears. Also when i went to HD for supplies there was a guy breaking into cars in plain daylight. This was in 2005. Its probably much worse now. I wouldnt live there if you payed me. I hate the bay area. What a crappy place to live.
this video should be the blueprint for all ultimate guide videos out here on RU-vid. Love how you pointed the area on the map and showed some snippets too. Thanks!

For the master bedroom, how about reducing the number of bedrooms and take the master across to the sun filled bedroom and enlarge that space. In doing this it will allow room to place the master bath on the street side of the home and the pluming for both bathrooms remain on the same side of the house. Just a thought 😊
Alameda is a very nice pocket city/neighborhood. The biggest downside is it's right next to Oakland. So you will see alot of BLM people. Aka basketball americans. Aka 13% but 70% crime committers. You get the drift. Smile😊
I miss Alameda from the 1960's. I grew up there. There were only 30 thousand people back then. Everything was wide open with no clutter or people. Classics stores that are all gone now. Now Alameda, is sad. People on top of each other. Townhouses and apartments being built on every piece of vacant land. Everything is expensive. Everybody like this guy in the video trying to get democrats to move out of the cities they destroyed, ie, San Francisco and move to Alameda so they can destroy that city too. Back in the 60's he would not like Alameda. Back then the politicians tried to keep Alameda small and quiet. Now the politicians will let anybody come in and build, build, build as long as they grease their palms. I was lucky to grow up in a once great town that is gone forever.
Alameda is SO nice. If you can afford it, you get a great view of the city, and can take the ferry over into SF for the day. :) No car traffic commute. The Ferry from SF can transfer and take you somewhere different too or even hop on the BART or MUNI. I wish I could afford to live there. (Minimum wage dreamer here)
California Faces a $68 Billion Deficit. Largely as a result of a severe revenue decline in 2022‑23, the state faces a serious budget deficit. The state faces three overlapping challenges: rising unemployment, growing fiscal strains and population outflows. All of these should abate over time, but for now they mark out California as a pocket of relative weakness in an otherwise robust American economy. Bearish is the right call...
My hometown, class of 95..Go Jets!!! Alameda is the best City in the East Bay hands down. It’s like being in Hawaii and everything is walking distance. But cost of living is ridiculous in the Bay Area so I moved to Solano County.
@@jakefromtheblock personally I’m on a chipotle + oatmeal + protein shake diet so I can lose some weight while consistently meeting my macros, which also ends up being more affordable, so $100 a night sounded crazy to me 😂
@@IYI_WOLF_IYI no worries I didn’t take it personal lol. I appreciate the comment so I could clear it up. Thanks for watching! Yeah $100/night would be wild lol but probably not too uncommon for the engineers out here 🤣. Hope your diets going well
Great video. Keep going man. Your video quality is extremely high. I like the facts you did not take an obvious side when it came to staying vs moving out of San Francisco.
I've checked the prices in Alameda and the cost to buy a house there today is just way too high. I know some people that grew up in Alameda that moved out because they couldn't afford to buy a house there.
Yes, like most of the Bay Area prices have skyrocketed. But, there are some affordable areas / types of housing within the island. May not fit everyones needs though.
@@BMarie-hr2md Hello! Its not something that we do often, but I can and have helped some of my clients with rental; especially if your criteria fits a home I already know about. There are some nice new constructions leases on the island as well that I'm happy to give you a tour of. Please send me an email or shoot me a text and we can chat more. The real estate is pretty hot already. But yes, it has been having a lot of new construction like treasure island, although the space is almost gone. I have another video touring the model homes by the water, check it out here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g3tNzvDgnvI.htmlsi=vp3xRgdU44Jc20rx If you ever want to tour them, give me a ring. Thanks for watching, Mark
Alright so here’s the deal. The food in Alameda is not anything special. Sure there’s a large amount of restaurants but not one of them really specializes in anything. If you live in a bubble and want to try a different food without stepping further away than 3 miles then this is for you lol.
Haha, that's fair. Decent food, but maybe not to go out of your way for if you're from another town lol. It satisfies me though. Oakland / berk / sf isn't too far to venture for food.
One of the reasons the food is mediocre in Alameda is because it's increasingly difficult for anyone to own and operate a small business there - There's unavoidable vandalism and property crime everywhere.
@@jakefromtheblock I grew up in Oakland. I’ve been going to Southshore center since the 80’s. I used to go to Sizzler’s with my family when it was still there. I took swimming lessons at Emma Hood swim center when i was 11 & 12. I still eat at Toomies Thai restaurant on Park. I am very familiar with Alameda and Oakland.
Jake- I appreciate this info. I used to rent a room from someone in a condo on South Shore and walked to the shopping center frequently to grab a bite. I worked at the 10 major airports of the Northwest US so I loved going to OAK Airport to fly out. I would love to move into Alameda and purchase a home. Your info in breaking down the areas is useful for me as I venture to buy. Thanks again Jake
Thank you for your comment and for taking the time to watch the video! I appreciate it. I'm always here as a resource for you if you need it. I encourage you to watch my in depth neighborhood videos on my Neighborhood spotlight playlist if you're curious about a specific neighborhood. hope to see you around the island!
Scott, thanks for the comment. It was my concern originally, however after much thought, in order to maximize its appeal and square footage of the home, I figured opening up the space and enlarging the kitchen was more desirable for this specific property. If the home had more special original and desirable characters such as built-in wood pieces as many of the craftsman homes on the island has, then I probably would not have removed it. Another note is that there aren't many fully remodeled and open floorplan craftsman's in the area, so counter-intuitively, it may have its own uniqueness and character. Time will tell.
Small primary bedroom with no bath, & in the kitchen I would have done something different with the wall with the window and not ran the counter top all over. Look as if you had to use leftover material on the wall.. 👎🏽
Appreciate your opinion. Interesting to see different tastes. There were many compliments on the backsplash. Yes primary bedroom is small, home was bought with that in mind. Profit was made and maximized the floor plan as much as it could.
You made a great purchase, I love the home and I’m sure whatever you choose will be wonderful! My personal recommendation is to Keep the beautiful original match box floors (saving yourself some money as well). Just match the tile you put in the entrance/mud room in the places the flooring doesn’t exist (& bathroom) to make it cohesive and look intentional! Them being a dark color will be wonderful too. Lastly try to put the kitchen/island incorporating the columns so they aren’t awkwardly out in the middle of the house. Best wishes and can’t wait to see the final result(:
Catherine, I appreciate your thoughts! The columns, along with the wall will be removed so hopefully it won't be awkward as it is currently designed. Will take your flooring ideas into consideration. Thanks for watching!
You’ve got real hardwoods. I would sand and stain it darker. Nothing better than real hardwoods. Also, there’s a beautiful motif next to the front door.
I appreciate your thoughts. The challenge is budget, since adding hardwood is more expensive, and it not being waterproof in the kitchen, or matching a different type of floor for the kitchen.
Dunno how I got here, but I like how you intend to keep most of the original features of the home. Another option is finding someone to match the original hardwood with fresh thin planks throughout so you don't have to worry about sanding.
Thanks for the input! They apparently don’t make the 1inch hardwoods anymore so it would have to be 1.5inch and the minimum. It’s a thought, we’ll see with budget, etc!
Very nicely done. Aesthetically lovely. My one recommendation would be to paint the whitewashed brick the same color as the front posts, including along the (garage side) of the property, etc. Well done.
