I love riding motorcycles, fixing motorcycles, and exploring this beautiful Island. I moved to Vancouver Island a while back and wanted to share my experience with you. I hope you enjoy riding along with me and exploring this beautiful place.
I just got this helmet and the noise above 60 is absolutely ridiculous i also have the hjc 50b smart intercom and the speakers are horrific definitely sound cheap compared to my old cardo freecom 2x
Interesting, thanks for sharing your feedback. Noise is always a funny thing, it depends on the fit of the helmet, what bike you are riding and how the wind hits it. I always wear ear plugs no matter what helmet I'm in. Champion Helmets did testing and found it to be about equal to some of the Shoie Helmets. My wife has loved it so far. Out of curiosity, what helmet are you coming from? We run Cardo's in our helmets, I wouldn't recommend the hjc units. Thanks for watching.
My buddy dumped his pulling out of his driveway. It stalled suddenly just as he took off and slammed down. When I rode it I stalled it seversl times. I figured it is just that I'm not used to it.
Yah, you need to give it more gas than other bikes. You get used to it pretty quickly, and you can always change the front sprocket to help with that too.
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Just a little different from my Hondas. I still want one. Smooth and powerful on the road. I have a hard time keeping up on my old Wing. The bike that was replaced with the Tiger was an '01 Legend 3 cylinder carbureted. Still runs perfect and no oil burning after 100,000 miles.
My friend had a vmax with a pillow for his seat. He told me, I had to make me tougher to be a good rider. Mine, it was a vstar 1100 with a big windshield. We come back in heavy rain. lol Now, I was the tough guy with the warm engine and good wind protection. I watched him and never stop laughing at him. This is suited for trips, not a vmax. I forgot, I had full padded Gore-Tex motorcycle clothes, not leather and jeans.
The proper gear makes every ride more enjoyable. I ride with an Airhawk and can go many more hours in a day. The more comfortable you are the safer you are. Your reaction time is way slower if you are freezing cold.
In July of this year two motorcycle riders were taken for advanced medical care in Las Vegas, and a third died from heat exposure near Badwater Basin. Heat exposure is no joke. In Baja we learned to wear well vented body armour with a off road/vented jersey, vented pants and a "camelbak" filled with ice then toped with Gatoraid. The melting ice on our backs really helped to keep the body temps down as well is diluted the Gatoraid to much more reasonable concentration of suger and salt which are very important in staying hydrated. Switchieng to a well vented Dirt Helmet is also very helpful as most ADV or street helmets simply do not vent nearly as well as a good dirt helmet.
Good tips Rick. I had mesh riding gear and a camel pack, but it just wasn't enough. I'm going to have to re think what time of year I go to hot places.
Thank you Tim for the great video. My brother-in-law and I did the trail in early May. You bring back some amazing memories! I hope you did not do the Thelma and Louise jump! ;)
I say the only down side to vstar 1100s is the valve train noise that’s just alittle louder then most vtwins I’ve had 3 and still riding one tho ! Great bikes

To me the Vstar 1100 was a good platform. Like you said, its not too big but not too small, not too little power but not too much power... its the perfect median cruiser. I regret selling mine at times, so much so I am looking to get another one. One big thing people can do for cheap that really wakes up the bike is pod filters and rejet, you can buy a full "Chubby kit" which is popular that includes all needed items. After adding that the power gains were very noticeable and help push bike along better especially with my larger than average self.
I bought a 1981 CB750 Custom when I was 16 back in 1990. Had 26,--- on it and Paid $1800 for it. LOVED IT! Only dumped it one time due to the city just laying FRESH Gravel on the highway and I was making a turn but as slow as I could. Rear Tire slipped. Bent the handlebar. Was 50yrds from work where the boss man took a torch and bend it back into shape. Had it 9yrs.. Missed it. Traded it for a R/V and got $2500 for it. 2020 and get the Stimulate Check.. Found Another, Same year, Same Backrest and Luggage Rack Plus a Front Cowl in NEW Shape but not attached and some other random pieces. $2200... Had 27,--- on it. Started Right Up and Sounded Good. Got it home and Rode it 4 times before it went to Shit on me.. Guy got it running Just Enough to Sell it.. 2024. Got it back from the Shop and cost AROUND $5,000 to Rebuild the engine. Still needs Minor work done to it like, Exhaust that Leaks at head, Lower End gone through, Struts and Shocks and other Minor Stuff. Had to have New Tires, Breaks and Cylinder, Seat, Chain and other Minor Stuff. Is Ridable and has less than 400m on it at time of posting this. Exhaust is missing the Single Hole Option and has the Multi Hole One or Original Owner Messed around with them. My Original One had the Single Hole Ones. So it's Louder than my Original One. Same Blue Color as my First. Has a Shield in front of the Gauges that helps aim air away from my face/head so I Can Wear a Friction/Elastic Fit Baseball Cap while doing 50mph. Dumped this one while Parked because my Shoelace got caught on the Kickstand and just laid it down trying to get it untangled. Couple of guys just got done pulling in at the Gas Station it happened at and helped me get it off my leg. We Laughed. Did Snap the Clutch Lever but was still usable. Needs a Good Cleaning. Gas Tank Interior could use one also but is clean enough to use.. Will be putting 100% Gas in it and Not the 10-15% stuff. May Cost more but worth it.. NOT Getting Rid of this One.. Is A Little Harder now getting On and Off at my age. Legs don't like to go that high anymore. Wish Idiots would STOP Turning them into Cafe Racers. Not sure if I want to put the Color Matching Cowl on or not. Would make it look more like a Gold Wing. But was told I would get worse Gas Millage. I am getting about 40mpg and even Saw 50mpg. Filling up every 100miles to help keep Tank Clean and Gas Fresh. May cost ( at time of posting this ) $4.00 a Gallon and not the $3.25 of the 10-15% but Worth it. Peace and Enjoy!
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Didn't get notified you replied.. YT keeps turning Notifications Off and have No F'n Clue why.. Plus they Love to delete my Comments..
regarding the comms units: 1) the additional pannel on the other side is for the other control unit for the 50B comms systems which comes with SENA's mesh. 2) You can buy adapters that click in to the slot on the left side you then attach your cardo too. This makes for a seamless design which I really like, especially with a packtalk slim (the slim doesnt fit rpha 71 sadly without modifying it)
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures Idk why but my comment was not added, I'll try again. I have found such plates on a phillipinian website, these are 3d printed. I might have jumped the gun too soon with stating "you can buy" them. I guess that since rpha 71 is quite new the product is not in demand yet. Cardo makes dedicated plates for shoei gt-air 2 and nxr 2 helmets, some ppl are making those for Logan helmets etc. I think that it will take some time before there will be ones available for RPHA71 However, if you have a friend with 3d printer or access to an university one this might solve the problem for you. Although I know how it sounds until the adapter plates will start being widely available thats all I can think of for now. I am also considering purchasing this helmet since it fits my head the best. Since I dont have friends ( :( ) I was thinking about going with sena dedicated comms to listen to music and take phonecalls. Do you have any experience with this?
@@teodor103 I don't know about the Sena, but we use the Cardo system and it works great. We just stuck it on the side and it works fine. The problem for me is if you have 2 helmets the integrated system doesn't work. Also, if you get rid of that helmet and buy a new one, you need a new come system. So the Cardo works well for us.
Depends on what you think is complicated I guess. Removing exhaust is a few bolts, but how many fasteners do you have to remove to take off a sport bike fairing? I guess it's harder than some, but it's not that bad.
14t front sprocket, Galfer front rotors, Madstad windscreens (large and small), get suspension tuned, and then keep the Tiger and buy a KTM Exe-f for the real dirt trails.
@@TimsMotorcycleAdventures I love the suspension on the late model GS 1250s, and I would take a GSA on bumpy paved roads down, Mexico Way. But they are big heavy bikes and when the front wheel looses traction life get real exciting and expensive quickly. Find the YT posts that illustrate who to keep the rear shaft splines well lubed and all should be good. :)
I owned a 2002 Yamaha XVS (V-Star) 1100 Classic. Apart from lack of choices on aftermarket accessories, it was a GREAT motorcycle. 👍 I rode it from AZ-CA & back, a lot, & into mexico & back a few times. A very stable motorcycle at 80mph, & will sustain 120mph if the weight of the rider isn't too much, and have to tuck in low on the bike, & still VERY stable. 👍
120..is that max..I weigh 180, just bought an 07 v star 1100 classic, had to replace clutch. Got it driving but having trouble staying running has a miss. Bought it for 300. Got to ride it 100 yards. So far
I absolutely love the LCD on mine....I'm not sold on needing a fancy TFT display on a bike that is used for booting around on roads where I know where I am going 95% of the time....for touring in strange areas, sure!
I'm fine with the lcd part, I just find this one too small and hard to read. I much prefer old school physical gauges to be honest. It's also too low for me.
Wow, good eye. I was wondering where that peice went. It's just a rubber peice at the bottom of the windscreen and I don't know what it does. Thanks for watching!
I had a early heritage softaili required a lot of maintenance I sold it I bought a yamaha v s 1l00 I love it. I runs great it's easy to ride handles great I wouldn't trade it for any other bike made I haven't done anything but ride it I give it 6 stars
End of June. We were North of the Arctic Circle on the summer solstice. It was great weather, but a couple weeks before the road was closed because of weather. You have to be ready for anything.
