Same as with the food; you could go the simple route, but that's not good enough for Slowik because of the expectations placed on him. My mother has pushed me, my entire life, to become a cook or chef. I do small events on occasion, but I know I would not enjoy it being a career. Last time she was pushing me I had her watch this movie, and your comment of "that's what happens when something you love becomes a job rather than a hobby. . ." is exactly how I've always felt. I think she may have understood it a little bit better after watching this movie. There's also the issue that I have intolerance for bitter things, and a hypersensitivity for them as well. I don't taste things the way most people do, so I can't really prepare them as well as someone who can actually eat them.
When I watched this scene of Miya and Adams race, I needed to pause. Then he started talking about...hitting on him when he will blossom. Then I shut down my laptop and thought...wtf did I just watched!? That is a lilteral grooming! Miya get out of there! Good that skate is pg 13 and not pg 16 or 18 cuz Adam reminds me of those stories about sports trainers abusing they power when it comes to they're young protegies. And love hotels are a thing in this anime. 0_0 Also I find out on wiki character trivia that Adam made his rank of passion he has for each sk8ter, and...It makes me sick. That's enough of internet for today.
This is a cool movie, but I just can't stand how weirdly they portray horses. As if they are just fleshy machines that react based on some strict coding. They don't freak just because you look them in the eye, for example. Hell, most horses wouldn't even react to a mirror after a short while because their language isn't as sight based as ours is. They talk a lot through smell. If the reflection don't smell like another horse, they will ignore it. Now, of course horses CAN find you a bit scary or bossy if you look them straight in the eye, especially if they don't know you. But if you do know the horse and the horse has been raised around people, they will look you in the eye because that's a behaviour they have learned when interacting with humans. It's just...odd...how this movie makes it so black and white. And why would JJ attack as soon as you look them in the eye? If they are a predator, shouldn't looking at them make them take a "step" back? Like with a tiger or a wolf?

Dayum, you just sent me down a rabbit hole on Google Maps, looking up the restaurant where I worked on St. Simon's... so many memories and some tremendous cultural learning moments as my friends were racially profiled (I happened to drive the same car that undercover cops drove back then, so everyone assumed at first that I was a plant from FLETC).
Your audio levels could do with being adjusted. I have to turn it up to make out the scenes you're reacting to, then it sounds like you're shouting down my ear the instant you react and I need to turn the audio right down again. They don't have to be at the same level, but they're so different right now it's very hard to watch.
Sk8 could end on season 1 Cuz the message it had to say is done. There was nothing left to work with. Unless we want to give Shadow more screentime, or give Adam the redemption ark. All tho the only type of Redemption ark he deserves is in federal prison. But it would be nice to see him gettiny conscious about his actions, and how it affect others, and maybe try to apologise to his former friends. But got hit with a cruel reality that they don't want to forgive him? And make this season about not begin able to come to terms with the past events, and not begin able to fix what's broken? And how opening old scars can hurt more then the last time they where made? Cuz I really can see Adam and Cherry having the same conversation as Bojack Horseman and Herb. But in Joe's restaurant. - I fell bad about what happened. -So you're apologizing? -Yes. I'm sorry. 😔 -Ok. I don't forgive you. And then Joe would come out from behind the bar and say: Were closed. Leave and wait for the trash pick up's.
My bf and i went to a vegetarian michellin reataurant that grew its own vegetables in its own garden and greenhouse. Super pretty. We had 12 dishes and we had fermented juices that prickled on the tongue. The best dish was a broth that was made from left over ingredients from every dish they had served since the restaurant opened. It was served with a little crispy ball with creamy potato mash inside. That broth was like a warm hug. I loved it so much. I dont remember every dish we were served, but i remember how it was like going on a journey through the autumn months and it was amazing. But that broth will probably be stuck in my head until i die. Watching this movie made me think about that reataurant and how special the experience had been. A bit weird since The Menu isnt exactly a cozy cute ride. Haha.
actually at this time if wei had of put any effort at all he would have beaten Lan zhan ass in the roof fight and Lan zhan gets a bit of a fright gets upset hides it well except his brother finds out thats the sword crushing grip when bro asks if the fight was even in ability :D
Anytime someone whines about not using gloves in food prep haz never worked in commercial food service. Gloves habe their purpose yes but using bare hands while following proper hand washing protocal abd frequency is actually way more sanitary. A lot of the time people will wash their hand LESS when using gloves because they stop thinking about what they just touched. I had always been on the opinion than sex being taboo and over18 only when adolescence (which happens before 18) is the time when the human body star asking for sex naturally is a huge social mistake. Because it foments bad kinks, echo chambers and misinformation, which is what lead to almost all the sexual related problem we got today.
Love your analysis! I adore this movie, was the only person in my theatre laughing my ass off at the comical descriptors of the dishes, but I had no idea they foreshadowed the film so much! Great video!
I think a lot of people keep forgetting that a part of what is happening with the show is that as much as they love humans and the earth they do mot view humans as thier equals. They DO view them as pawn or puzzle pieces and becauae that is the lens the narrative is interacting with the humans through THAT is the version of the human characters we get. We notice it and it feels wrong because we are humans and don't view our own lives that way.
A little late to this video but I really enjoyed hearing your insight on this random but great movie. I especially loved that cheeseburger scene because my first job was as a fry cook. And seeing how that simple cheeseburger brought joy to the characters was really fun to see on my first watch. Awesome video 👍🏽
I personally headcanoned Cherry as ace. Probably because of his bond with Carla. Sience many characters who's true love is thechnology are ace coded, or at least interpreated thet way. And how he dislikes Joe for acting like a womentizer and trowing s3x jokes a lot, and he disliked Adam too. He never showed "that" intrest to anyone. I mean he could have had a crush on Adam in his teenage years. But it's not clear. The creator said that it was admiration, so maybe platonic crush? Maybe romantic. I still don't get tho, why he treats Carla like she's sentiant? I was thinking there's gonna be like big reveal that Carla was a name of Cherry's girl friend who had an accident. Maybe like with Reki's friend. She go injured or died, because of Adam and Cherry is after revange. But no. It seams like Carla is like Alexa or Ciri. Just a name. There's no secret or backstory behind it.

I was a server and bartender for about 12 years. Some people were annoying, but I was sarcastic and sassy. For some reason that worked and I made great tips. It is easy to say no. This was in the 70s and 80s when managers had no problem refusing service to abusive customers.
Please, please, please ź balance the movie audio with your commentary audio because it will help with context. Most of the time the movie audio is too low.
About the gloves. Gloves engender passivity people will wear them too long or not wash between gloves most high end places don't use them for that reason
I personally think Adam wanted to kill Langa during the finale. I can see that from the way he speaked to himand Reki after Reki told him that he's alone. Im sure he was so done looking for whatever comfort he was looking for while he was skating, that he snaped. Again. And that mindset was probably with him sience his teen years. Some people have sensitive minds and takes so much to themselfs that fiew more bad days can reveal all of this pain. And from the way he said "soon there will be another one in my world", and if we will asume that he did tried to kill himself, he could have wanted to take Langa with him. Cuz he really didn't want to be alone.
Yeah this makes sense in the story, that Reki felt like he was not as good and more of a person that cannot get better. Also him and Miya are the only one who are using they real names at S, which is kinda risky when you think about it. Reki has this nickname called "Mechanic star" but nobody uses it. And It might be connected to how much skate is a core part of they personalities. Miya is all known from begin a maybe soon junior champion of skating. So there's no point for him to hide his name sience so many people regionises this already. Besided he fells like nobody and hurt him in any way but emotional, he's just a kid. Reki probably just felt confident enough to use his real name.
First comment! I am so happy you went back to SK8 the infinity because I just discovered your video since I watched the video a while ago. Reki thinking that he's a "liability" makes so much sense in this seemingly happy beach episode. I am looking forward to more!
Hello! I am Asian and you are very spot-on and eloquent in explaining the inner and outer faces we adopt. My friends and I were saying that "S" provided them a space to have a "drag persona" where they can escape. But I find it interesting that in "S" Reki is the one who is himself because skating IS his identity. Reki is my favorite character but I like everyone, even Adam in the sense of characterization and your theory that Adam is out of practice and uses intimidation was eye-opening! :) I also think that Joe could be a parental figure (at least for Reki) but it's really Shadow who is the real caretaker. I do like that they visited him in hospital. I was so surprised how moved I was by this anime that I keep recommending it to everyone I know.
The Menu and The Bear both remind me of the manga that ultimately convinced me at a young age (and thankfully so) that while cooking is a hobby I love that I should not confuse it with the desire to indulge food service as a vocation. And that Manga is 'Bambino!' and I would recommend it to literally anyone who would enjoy a movie like The Menu.
Sorry, but your analysis doesn't hold up to any scrutiny and I wouldn't pay my two cents for it. How nice that there are independent interpreters in the world who share their invaluable information about the show without too much hype. The director and screenwriter have created a complex and deep story about several people under masks, which you interpret by passing off your headcanons as real facts. Like your claim that Reki and company went to Miyakojima during Golden Week. I'm sorry, I don't believe you love this show.
