A repository for my professional video work focusing on live music and vintage audio. My Choice Cuts series was put on hiatus because of Covid. During that time I started a series called I Don't Know Stuff focusing on vintage audio gear and vinyl records. Now called Melted Wax we are continuing to create content around vintage audio and vinyl records. The theme is apparently music whether it be live or recorded.
Nick, thanks for the video. I have a Marantz 2250B that I using last night and the right channel was not as loud as the left. I pushed several of the buttons on the unit until I rotated the tone control knob and the right channel was finally equal to the left. Sticky pot. Deoxit? I have not done this before so your video is extremely helpful. Finally, I had an issue with the balance slider and took it to a tech in Ashville NC who stated he had to bypass it because it was not functioning any longer. This has been my receiver since high school so it has not been abused, but he bypassed the slider so I am looking for a replacement on e-bay. Thanks again for the video. Dave
Nice video! Just a couple questions for you: 1) the service manual lists only 5 caps for the P800 board. C801, 802, 803, 804 and 805. You said 8 caps replaced. what are the other three? 2) It looks like you did not replace the ceramic cap at C801. any reason? Thanks!
Was the turntable completely non functional before recapping it? What were the symptoms? Or should these old stereo equipment be recapped simply because of the age? Beautiful piece btw, can't beat that vintage styling.
The speed was sporadic and even after it was dialed in, it needed monitoring. The thing about recapping the 6300 is that it's only like 7 caps and it's one board so it's not a huge job. Also no sound goes through the caps it's all about speed regulation so if your speed is rock solid, probably no need to recap. Thanks for watching.
Dust covers. Waste of time having. They are way more problems for what they are worth. I wish they made wooden ones . These things are impossible to NOT scratch in the first place.
YES!! Someone finally picked King Gizz as the artist who released 25 albums in the same year ☺️🤘 Love all your picks, very similar taste in music. That Grace Jones album has sound that seems to pop out of nowhere, a ridiculously great sounding piece of wax, mixing on that album is off its head. Oh and listen to Ty Segalls cover of every 1s a winner, its killer
If you want to go deeper, July, Tomorrow, kaleidoscope, The End, Blossom Toes, Art, The West Coast Pop art Experimental Band, Os Mutantes and Opem Mind.
We are familiar with a few of those. We sold a record by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band last year. Really cool art and definitely psychedelic.
Country Joe and the Fish. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. Brian Jonestown Massacre. Detuned guitars. Synthesisers. Social messaging. Jazz Psych Fusion is cool. John McLaughlin Maharishi Band. Return to Forever. Weather Report. Billy Cobham.
Bruh.. gotta get a power tool polisher (drill even works). You'll cut those scratches out with about 1 hour of mechanical polishing with your meguires.
For sure - this was more meant to be a quick fix and it's a good start. There are many solutions with a variety of grits and power polishers that can further the process. Thanks for the comment.
Dude is relentless. I got a message from another person the other day telling me this video stopped him from getting scammed so I guess it is still serving its purpose. I hope others can do the searching before sending him money. We are starting to see copy cat scammers in Colorado which is pretty frustrating.
Unfortunately, he just got me last week. $490 total for shipping plus the $350 “2270”… the ghost of a 2270 that doesn’t exist. Sure would love to see some NBC to Catch a Predator on this asshole. You’d think it’d be an easy catch for the FBI on fraud if they actually took the time…
This is my turntable I’ve had since I was a kid. I have it in service right now to fix my strobe light and whatever else might need repaired. But, they don’t do cosmetic repairs so when I get it home I’m going to follow whatever you guys are doing. Because the dust cover needs some polishing. And a little more cleaning of the wood and stainless steel.
@@thevinylheard I put $80.00 down. And total repairs are $290.00. So $210.00 total for everything. I forgot what he told me what he was fixing. But, it’s worth the money. Because I read these can be worth a lot of money these days.
Loving that Signed String Cheese Incident there...Pumpkins Gish...been a long time since I have heard that...Hello Lance and Nick...Im Paul just tripped on your channel and subbed btw...nice Dead choice..love me some Roky...great stuff great video thanx for sharing and take care
Excellent job! Love the Blue Note run. You probably don’t want to read this but I got that Tool box set new and sealed for $55! Sometimes it’s best to wait for price drops on sets like these, makes me wonder what the 50th anniversary box set of DSOM will drop to. $300 is a lot for something many will already have, even multiple times. Parliament was my choice for the three great successive albums.
Yeah that's the gamble with "limited edition" vinyl right? You can always wait but sometimes you end up missing out. It's that FOMO factor that gets a lot us collectors.
blind melon? do yourself a favor and junk that whackness. great album my ass. and the second album by Alabama Shakes isn't as good as first album? check your palette
Vinyl Ritchie was my original DJ name - I've since moved on to DJ StrawBarry Manilow - and man most of these tags go for 20 - 30 minutes let alone us two boomers chomping it out. But hey thanks for watching and enjoy that Gish!
Blind melon was in my #vinyltag 2023 too! Underrated 90's band IMO.. Loving the jam band vibes & the singer/songwriter recommendations.. Happy New Year!
Thanks for watching - I feel (Nick the Beard) that Blind Melon may not be underrated but they are not as widely known these days. They never had a chance to develop as a band. The same can be said for Sublime and Nirvana. We just lost the creative force behind the music far too soon to really know how far they would go.
