I have been following MTB since the old days, have faith , you are doing such a great job, I laugh just as much as I did with Rob. Rob is one of a kind and no one can replace him, but I am happy to have you become part of the MTB family. You are so talented and a natural behind the camera not discounting your years of experience. You have a Parker Posey vibe and you are f’ing dope! Also dont feel bad about the Nina Hoffman slip up, one time Mexico won the XCC and Rob said on air no one can interview him because no one speaks Mexican. Mexican is not a language and it came off insanely derogatory. He didnt mean it that way it was a mistake. These things will happen.

I've been keeping up with the world cup action from Ed Bull Media House this year, despite how chaotic it is 🤣 I feel like the Warner bros stuff is just to serious for me, and that's not what I watch DH for
Its not the change that they don't like. It's the change for the worse. People like improvements that are obvious, shouldn't have to explain why something new is better.
Understanding the backlash is simple. Kate doesn't provide insight, she just tries to justify her existence in a sport she clearly knows nothing about. I wonder if she's considered getting better at her job as a way of dealing with online negativity?
I suspect the plucky attitude and the girl scout enthusiasm will work out in Dh about as well as it did for being a d-tier football commentator. Best of luck with that tho'.
I listened to the whole podcast to hear her out. She's just a presenter with little knowledge or interest in the sport so the reason for the hate directed at her should be obvious. Aside from that , the main take away from the interview was that I now have a better understanding of why I dislike her ! Brave choice for a guest , mate.
Wasn't it her that she mistaken Tahnee Seagrave with Vali Holl or smth by standing next to her? If yes, why the f*** is she allowed to even talk DH anymore?
You shouldn't need to communicate those things to your customers, they should be obvious improvements. If they aren't tangible then they haven't been worth the investment of time and resources. The big upside of all this is that it's more likely than not to end earlier than 8 years given how poorly it has been received
Putting this down to 'the online negativity', and 'people not liking change' is missing the point. More likely than not deliberately. On the plus side, on less thing to watch, more time to do meaningful things like riding. So good job getting people to spend less time in front of the TV Warner Bros. 👍
So what they have done well they can't explain because we are too stupid? People have been very clear on what they don't like and why. She just rambles she isnt near as likeable as she believes. Out here trying to do PR damage control. How but just taking some of the ideas and stop making everything worse. Clearly blowing off all criticism not trying to understand cause they are doing such a great job.
She seems like a normal, decent person but never easy being the figurehead of a big corporate monster that's out to (first and foremost) make more money for itself. I'd imagine that if you were being cynical WB would look for someone who's already been seen as an outsider to try and take some of the focus off Chris Ball
They took something that had could be viewed for free and put it behind a paywall. Something that aspiring riders could enter and shut the door on them. The production they are responsible for hasn't improved on what we already had. They've made attending as a fan more expensive . They appear to want to turn the tracks into shorter straight lines. Yeah there's gonna be a bit of justified criticism. On the plus side their main asset, the riders who they've mostly ignored have put on a hell of a show in difficult financial conditions.
She seems like such a nice person. It's unfortunate that she is the face of an amateur organisation that seemed intent on destroying the sport. But I feel like she is doing the best she can.
In the past racers wanting to go full time have had to race UCI WC's straight from National level racing because there isn't a viable progression through Regional/National/Continental/World Cup racing from a UK base. Fast local Juniors in a Regional race are beating WC racers (Adam's winning time in Elite at the recent Glencoe BDS/SDA wouldn't have got him on the U18 podium) but there's little structure in place for Juniors to progress to the next level above Nationals.
The reality is eso are right. I hate to say that. Everyone wants to go to wc even if they aren’t ready yet. They havent earned it. Riders like Ethan Craik used to race all sorts before getting picked up by GT. There are loads of videos of him at fod and the likes. Yes its great privateers getting into the top 30 every so often but the most talented poor kid will never ever get there because being a privateer is also insanely expensive. It is actually restrictive. People just think about the romance and not the reality. We need to make world cup the pinnacle earned not necessarily purchased. A great structure will help the cream rise to the top with hopefully lower expenses and national series wont be look down on any longer because it will be how you earn your world cup spot
Great interview with Kate. She is perfect and provides a balanced commentating perspective for all those new to watching DH. in the same way as Natalie Pinkham is for F1. Kate's energy and professionalism is just awesome and well done to the Downtime team for showing any perspective. Credit to you all.

You are not wrong. Journalism is the skill. It is about finding the story. All the journalists interviewing the riders on Redbull before and after the races during the podium werent riders and were new to the sport but they did a great job. I am not a fan of the WB take over, but Kate and Josh are the silver lining. I prefer Ric in Enduro, he isnt lead commentator material but he is much better than Matt Payne from Flo bike, he actually ruined world champs Even Pinkbike and many other brands said so. Josh Carlson is definitely lead commentator material.
Oh man, loved this. Super cool to have a different angle. She's so charismatic and easy listening. Love that she's a bit nerdy and likes it. Love the way she gets the whole change from Rob and how people feel with it but they're out to do the best they can. It was the interview I didn't know I needed. Nice work both!
Massive fan of Brayton, seems like an all around top lad. Him and Danny in my eyes are the peak of people who just love riding bikes. Great poddie, extremely easy and entertaining listen. Hats of to you both, was a very natural 1.5 hours well spent. Big up Marra!

I was at hardline for the qualifiers on the 1st of June and I asked both Bernard and Gee if the river gap was going to return in 2025 and they both seemed really enthusiastic about it saying stuff like "Oh yeah for sure dude" and "Hell yeah" 🤣 so I would say its pretty safe to say it will be back for 2025!
Seriously the best once you’ve gone through the dialed series, and getting your head to really start to wrap your head around suspension, this is a good dive into the details. And hey, great production as well.
Hoped I'd run into him and get some gastoflat merch at hardline tassie, since I saw he sells his merch at hardline Wales, but it wasn't to be. Love his blogs showing the true hard work and passion of racing as a privateer or pro-vateer as he would call it.
