I just chanced upon your channel and just about fell out of my chair when I came to your video. Finally, someone who's totally upfront and honest about the CONS of Santa Fe! Everything you say is true. Honesty is always the best policy.

I work at LANL and have been here since the beginning of November and finally made my way to the Palace of the Govenor's. Loved the snow over the winter as it was just the right amount. Winter was almost too long but hey in late March or early April it slowly started warming back up. Love your videos and keep them coming. Hopefully we can meet one day soon. The city feels like a small Texas city or has those vibes.

NM is a beautiful state, but your governor is such an anti constitution, far left liberal crackpot that I’m out! Good luck little California!

The elected officials not governing our city is creating chaos for the people visiting and people living in Santa Fe. The loud cars that take over our city day and night and the speeding cars and running red lights is an embarrassment to this city and the tax payers. There is no police presence to control any of this. In short, Santa Fe is going in the wrong direction. The officials are more interested with making the rail and art district another Disney park and not fixing problems at hand. I moved to Santa Fe over 14 years ago and love it, but the last few years of increased noise from the modified car mufflers have taken over the sound scape and is causing noise pollution that's unacceptable for most cities. My family and friends will no longer visit due to lack of sleep either in hotel rooms or at my place due to the noise. There are laws in place to curb the illegal cars but it's not being enforced. This is unfair and I don't know to approach it. I have contacted the governor's office and never received a reply, same with the mayor. Do our elected officials ever step outside to see what's going on in this city? This has been going on for a long time and there's been more than ample time to fix this.

The city has a rich interesting history and culture, the surrounding and nearby geology is breathtaking, but in town, as a tourist i experienced the very same things you mentioned when I visited my sister there. She has since moved up to Colorado.

They don't tell you that there are two economies in Santa Fe, the regular peoples economy and the rich peoples economy which is the only one they tell you about. Not everyone in Santa Fe lives in a 400-650 thousand dollar median house. There are a lot of lower socioeconomic people in Santa Fe that live in the lower neighborhoods that they don't tell you about. Lower cost neighborhoods out away from the downtown area where it's high end and wealthy. Look at the neighborhoods out past St. Michaels off Cerrillos Road, even Airport road out by the jail. The cons of moving to Santa Fe is thinking it's all high end and upscale and that it's all a higher cost of living and it's just not but they only promote the higher cost Santa Fe.

Long before home rental prices went high in most of the country, they were super high in Santa Fe. There is lots to do downtown but parking is expensive and often unavailable. There is no night life because the high cost of housing means most younger people live a long commute away from Santa Fe.

Parking can be expensive however lately the parking garages have been empty when I venture into the downtown area. As for no night life, I have been told that there used to be a lot of live music and for some reason, over the last 2 decades, it has dwindled to very little. There are some places popping up, especially at the breweries so that is hopeful!

The culture does not live here in Santa Fe. The cost of living drove us all out. Born and raised in Santa Fe, came back home to tend to my ailing parents, both have since passed. I work in the medical field and can’t afford to live here. Many, many medical professionals have to go south to Rio Rancho or Albuquerque to live. What happened to my childhood home? Who sold us out?

Thank you for your vids…is it normal to commute an hour to work? 😅
@LivinginSantaFeNMwithMaya
@LivinginSantaFeNMwithMaya 4 месяца назад
Depends on where you are living and where you need to commute to work. There are a lot of folks who live in Rio Rancho or Albuquerque and then it is an hour commute. If you live anywhere in or near Santa Fe the commute is typically 17-22 minutes. Once you get out of county then yes, the commute is longer. The worst commute around here is from Santa Fe to the labs in Los Alamos.

I wish there were more specifics on the costs. Perhaps a list of costs for average housing, utilities, taxes, groceries, insurance, medical, etc.

I thought of moving to Santa Fe, but truthfully Santa Fe to New Mexico is like Aspen to Colorado. To many movie stars live there and then the prices are jacked up. So I ended up moving to Albuquerque instead and I loved it there...... but because of mitigating circumstances, I had to move back to Nebraska. 🤬

Only towards the downtown area. Out past Saint Michael's Drive on Cerrillos Road going towards Airport Road it's not so high end and more affordable.

It really depends on where you live - and how far out of town and what the terrain is like. It is better in town that out of town. The outages that I experienced have passed. Tt does appear that it has gotten more stable over time and fiber optic cabling will be more available in 2-3 years.

The cons are well written and spot on. You've identified those negatives well and honestly. And, it's true, coming to Santa Fe means lowering one's expectations, if only a little. I came from 30 years on Wall Street NYC, so you can imagine the change. Still, I love it here!
