LOVE THIS! I played big band brass for many years before I got busy with family stuff. Providing that foundation for the vocalist to do their thing is a GIFT to the person with the axe.
Just listened to the CD version. All I can say is, "Wow!😮 You know I'm a huge longtime fan, but this one FAR surpassed my expectations. I got chills at least a half dozen times listening to it. The songs..so diverse musically, intriguing lyrically, and so well written. Your vocals? Better than I have EVER heard you..and that's saying a LOT! I felt like I was listening to this incredibly ear-pleasing combo of Mavis Staples/Gladys Knight, Rosemary Clooney, with a touch of Bette Midler tossed in. Tremendous👏 The BVs, production and musicianship? Superb! And perhaps the biggest reason why I say this album well-exceeded my expectations has to do with the/mixing mastering/engineering. I mean..the meticulous care that was clearly invested into making the tracks sound their very best is truly evident. And on a CD, yet? These days, NO artist or producer seems to give a flyin' shit worrying about the sound quality on a CD. it's all "Let's get it compressed for digital". Well..your "Stories From The Dust" CD? It was pure, heavenly comfort food to these ears.😇 Bravo, Lulu. I know you're proud of this album. You put a lot of time, passion and sweat equity into making it. Lemme tell ya', girl..it all paid off ..and handsomely. Congrats, Lucy Woodward!🙋♂👌👏
As FNM says in 'Last cup of sorrow': ...you might surprise yourself... :) btw yesterday I had the same feeling, started enjoying the learning process, I kinda looked up to Michael League and how he enjoys learning to play new rare instruments... now lets check that album of yours 😊
Hi Lucy excuse my ignorance in advance but is this video filming the first stage of the song or is it a demo tape?. It sounds so true to the final track. Regards, DJ
Good question! I had written the song before the filming of this video this but since I wanted to play it with Henry and Everett for Paste Magazine shooting, we had to rework the instrumentation. They are so brilliant at that so it was all very natural!
