Throbbing, pumping, insistent, muscular, thrusting - this is one of the Dickies finest erections. And paired with another highlight from Dawn of the Dickies - Stuck in a pagoda with Tricia Toyota. What a brilliant 7”.
I saw them open for the Ramones a couple of times, early 80s ,great shows, love The Dickies, always thought of them as our american Damned (which I also saw them open for several times :)
Most people don’t know that Leonard is a really heavy cat musically. He was a progger in high school, understands harmony and melody and applies it in their songwriting.
Yeah, I always got the impression that he wasn't just taking the piss when they covered Nights in White Satin. There was a very brief but glorious time when he was pretty interactive with his facebook account. It was always some pretty funny shit coming out of left field, but also kind of brainy.
I saw The Dickies live in Paradiso (Amsterdam) in november 1979. We went to see The Stranglers. The support act turned out to be The Dickies. We had never heard of them. They blew us away. And the rest of the audience. Support acts were often treated like something you had to wait through to see the band you came for. Often enough they were not worth watching really. Not so with The Dickies. The place went crazy. Then The Stranglers played. They were good. Very good. But nowhere near as fun as The Dickies. So when they finished their set, instead of shouting "we want more" the audience were shouting "Dickies ! Dickies !". Unfortunately they didn't come back on, which was disappointing but understandable.... Best gig I ever saw (except maybe another gig they did here in the 90's). Still love them and often play their albums. Can they PLEASE come and do another gig in Holland ? PLEASE ????
The Dickies, they transcend all nationalities. People who don't speak English still love the Dickies. Cheers to you. United in good music. I saw them live. Rock on. We're all rollers.
Que onda, Charlie!! Soy Efra ( "esos weyes" / "AM.P.M's" / "Shinjoku Riot" ) hey!! Saludos!!
Not a fan of Hain, who I think brought in some terrible overprocessed shredder guitar tones but man, Buhne was probably the best bassist the Dickies ever had. Almost progressive in places and you'd think it wouldn't work but damn, listen to those lines during the choruses. Super creative.
My now husband came over for a date in 1983. He was a drummer. I put this song on and he asked if it was too loud. Ha, celebrating our 28th anniversary. He still thinks it's too loud.
