The Edinburgh Gilbert & Sullivan Society (EDGAS) is a Scottish charity dedicated to the performance and promotion of the works of Sir W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.
Formed in 1924 as an appreciation society, EDGAS began annual public performances in 1946 and this is now our main activity. We also perform concerts ranging from orchestral singalongs of the operas to smaller concert party visits to a variety of venues, such as churches and nursing homes.
For over 20 years we have been invited by Seafarers UK Scotland to sing in its annual Usher Hall concert with the Band of H.M. Royal Marines. We would love to hear from anyone who would like to join the Society as a singer/performer, or simply as a member keen to support our aims and activities - please contact us via the contact page for further details.
In memoriam of the late Tony Azito who was the police Sargent in the central park production and the Broadway stage musical and the film version of the musical.
I think this performance of 'Mary Morison' is perhaps the best recorded version that I have heard, and that view includes experience of at least two fully-professional performances. The measure, treatment and appreciation both of the setting and of Burns's poem here is superb. I have 'shared' this posting to a number of others who also have a long and detailed experience of Sullivan's work and the response has been entirely and fulsomely positive. It seems astonishing, given the quality of this performance, that it has only had, at the time of writing, 52 views. It deserves a very much wider audience.
Hi Kyan, we have a full recording but it is not online. Please email Sarah@EDGAS.org with your enquiry and then we can look into whether or not it is possible to share the full version with you. Thank you!
Is this the recording that was released by Pearl from this concert? It's been years since I was able to listen to the old LP. Brings back lots of pleasant memories...
The Prince's Consort recording I have and I'd love to see this piece on DVD. Why nobody has yet done so is puzzling since it's as tuneful as any from the G&S canon.
@@jackpoint188 the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Victoria Australia have done it and has been videoed. Go to their web. I didnt find it, you might have to contact them.
