Hey! Welcome to my channel, my name is Denae. I create a variety of lifestyle videos from beauty routines, mental health, vlogs, and other random chats about my everyday life!
Hi! Can you let is know if your actual degree says “online” on your diploma? Pepperdine just hiked up their tuition rates to $1945 a unit, so I’m not willing to pay over $133k for my diploma to say “online” on it as a designation for the MFT program. Thank you! Have been following your Pepp journey for about a year now. I just got accepted June 2024
Thank you and congratulations on your graduation! What a journey for you… and thank you for sharing it with us incoming cohorts! I hope you get to visit Malibu soon and see the campus :)
Hi, what does a masters in counseling program that does prepare you for the licensure exam look like to you now? Idk if you have taken the exam yet but maybe you have some insight on that please and thank you !😊
I’m glad she realized it’s not worth it. For anyone reading this comment who is considering a master’s in counseling but can’t afford “prestige” universities, remember that the most important factors are CACREP accreditation and state licensure approval. PEPPERDINE is not CACREP accredited, which is a significant drawback given its high cost. Make sure your program is accredited and has a strong placement team for finding you a practicum. The license you get from an accredited program is what truly matters, not the name of the school.
Pepperdine or at least the program I did was CACREP accredited. I don’t know the status now, but it was at the time I was enrolled. Other than that, agree with your comment 💯
@@denaelynn_ Thank you for sharing! From my research and current information, it appears that Pepperdine’s Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology program is not currently CACREP accredited. I forgot Accreditation status can change, so it’s always a good idea for prospective students to verify the current status with the university directly.
Thanks for sharing! I know you touched on it, but I was under the impression that you can make good money in private practice. It seems like the numbers would add up if you take insurance and have a good number of clients. Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated!
Yes! Private practice you can sometimes make more money. From those I know personally who have private practices mainly make “a lot” of money if they have people working under them or if you have an entirely virtual private practice. There are a lot of other costs you have to pay when having a private practice such as rent for the space, malpractice insurance, liability insurance, health insurance, etc. There are pros and cons it just depends on your preferences!
This is a very realistic view of working in the mental health field. As a Psychologist for over 30 years I reallly appreciate the comments and advice you have offered to those considering the field... 🙂
Hi! I am currently applying. I don't have research/formal clinical experience but I have a good GPA and a psychology degree with work and relevant volunteer experiences. Do you think this is enough for acceptance? Is clinical experience required when I apply?
I am definitely not an expert on university acceptance! But having a good educational background and then having other experiences (such as volunteering) I think would be very beneficial. Pull what you learned/what you’ll take into this career from those experiences when you write your personal statement!
Good evening, National University (the university I'm attending) does not offer help in placement. However, I am searching around my city to find the best placement for me. I wanted to ask if most practicum sites approve students to intern for them? Or is it possible to also be denied? I guess I'm living with the fear of not being able to find one that I like and if I do, I get denied. I had an interview today and I assumed it went well but they said it would take a week to hear back via email. Thank you!
It depends what area you are in I would suspect. I would say most of time if you are not applying at a super competitive site you will get the internship, but there is always a chance as with any job. I apologize as I know that probably doesn’t help your anxiety but it’s honestly hard to say :(
Thank you, I am a coordinator for a grief program for youth who lost a family member to homicide. The laptop stand is from Amazon! Here’s the link. a.co/d/10BsyXL
As far as the pepperdine part, it would be too much to explain in a single comment 🤣 but I filmed a lot of different videos talking about it if you’re interested! I definitely would have gone to a more affordable school for one. But most of the things I really want to do now don’t necessarily require a masters so I maybe would have reconsidered jumping into a master program so quickly after undergrad!
I can’t believe you just put up this video! I feel like it’s fate! I considered Pepperdine too but after hearing your experience I may look elsewhere. I have a BS in psych and have been considering doing my masters in counseling also but I have a whole different set of factors against me than you😅 two little kids and a husband In the army. One question I have is can you take your time getting the 3000 hrs or do you have to get them within a certain period? And do you think your degree prepares you for the preliminary licensure exam or does that require extra studying on your part?
It might be different per state. But I think for Illinois there is no maximum you can get the hours in but there is a minimum of 1 year. I don’t think my program prepared me for the licensure exam. Some friends I have told me they had a class in their program that helps them prepare but even with that more studying was required for them. So definitely time consuming!
I know an acquaintance who received their PsyD from Pepperdine, she is a liaison for an Asian prostitution ring, mostly college students from her Asian sorority at UC Davis pretty enough to receive payment for sex.
Hi!! Im a psych major student, wanna know more about internship n somemore about clinical. Would be glad if i could get ur instagram... Subscribed bdw!♡>>
Hi, What is that thing on your head at 00:05 seconds - is that a Turbi Twist to dry your hair after shower or something to put your hair up in the morning when doing skincare routine?
Congrats on your upcoming graduation! I found your channel a few weeks ago and have been watching your grad school stuff. I am 1 year into the mental health counseling program (3 year track) at Northwestern!
Hello! I’m working on my application. Not sure how to go about the personal statement though - do you have any advice in regards to that? I haven’t written an essay in 4+ yrs..so I feel stuck lol.
I would try to focus on what got you interested in this field, what you hope to bring to it, why this program suits you, and any experience you have that is relevant (or could be relevant). Hope this helps, good luck!
