Frankie Yankovic's 1948 recording and his frequent use of it in his live shows turned this tune into a polka classic which is still played by many bands.
I had an 8 track tape of this in the early 70's. I remember listening to it one hot summer day rolling up the Turner Turnpike to Tulsa to see my girl. I drove through and over those hills. Good song, good days and a great girl . Been married 48 years.
Hal Rugg was definitely a great player, but every time I approach him at the steel guitar conventions he was a complete prick unlike the other steel players.
