We stayed-up all-night to watch it - not least such was the novelty of it all. The BBC1 globe for the Olympics must not have been ready quite in time, though I'm sure it was from sometime the next day.
I wasn't even 9 years old until late October that that year, i loved all the entertainment on BBC 1 back then and throughout the rest of the 1980s. However I look at the BBC today and my god i think it's utter crap in my opinion back then the BBC catered for the entire family Mum's, Dad's, Kids And Grandparents. The continuity announcers for the BBC 1 trail's used say to quote, things like "Entertainment For The Family This Saturday On BBC 1', and that's the thing 'Family' viewing/entertainment. When the entire family would sit down to watch there Tv as a family together (well at least i did with my late Mum and Dad back then). Not only did i like BBC 1 and 2 back then but ITV as well. Channel 4 was broadcast for the first time that year as well. Admittedly there was only thee channels throughout the later part of that year but it was so much better back then in my onion. I even enjoyed Channel 4 as well as a kid and they had some great programmes on like 'The Tube', but i have not watched Channel 4 for years, there is just nothing of interest for me on there Of course it goes without saying My tastes have changed as i've got older in tv viewing. The only one channel i watch on Freeview now is Talking Pictures Tv Channel 82 i think it's brilliant and it's independently run by a father and daughter and they care about there viewers. Out of the hundreds of channels that broadcast today in the UK and stream in my opinion it's 'All Quantity And No Quality'. There i will get off my soapbox now.
Is me or does the BBC1 clock and globe look slightly lopsided up at the left and down on the right, but it's total televisual magic from an era where they could do a lot with a small transparent plastic ball, some metallic paint, a 9v bulb, a concave (curved mirror) and a simple transparency with the BBC1 logo on it, all in a contraption the size of an average shoe box I was 8 in 1979 and was always more interested in the BBC1 and 2 logos of the 70's 80's I preferred them more than actual programmes that proceeded them, at that age I always wanted to know how it was done and put on air, I always got excited at Christmas when the globe took a 3 day break and was replaced by a Christmas ident usually a model that had a spinning element towards it, my first memory of this was the spinning Christmas pudding of 1977, it replaced the globe, from then on I knew they changed the BBC idents for Christmas every year! Great memories! 😊
Oh my goodness. Nostalgia overload 🥺 I didn't have a happy childhood, my family were cold and distant. And angry. I would lose myself in TV and Movies. The escape from my home life meant everything. Christmas was the only time my mom n dad relaxed a bit and tried to do the 'happy" thing. I don't really like thinking about my childhood. But every now and then I dip a toe into remembering the little boy I was, sat cross legged in front of a TV cuddled up with my dog, wide eyed and lost in whatever cartoon or TV show was on at the time. Craving a family or friends or life different to the one I was living. I was 7 watching this in Christmas 1984. I can remember it like yesterday. 40 fkin years ago!! And that little boy never got to achieve any of his dreams. And he's still struggling to get a grip on reality. I kinda wished I hadn't watched it, I'm just sad now lol 😂
@@kevinpierce3458 Hi mate. Yeah thanks, I'm doing pretty good right now thanks buddy. I didn't mean to get so melancholy!! lol it's just like stepping in a time-machine hearing/seeing all this magical TV nostalgia!! wrecks my head 🤪 lol
I found it downright terrifying at the end when he summons a demon with a pentagram and has that weird robot head thing. No wonder I grew up loving magic mushrooms
