I’m formerly from a very small place in Notee Dame Bay Stoneville. And listened to this song over and over. Who didn’t love this song living I NL. Or if like me moved away at a young age. Still listened to our native music after leaving.
This song was not written by members of the Dorymen, but an adaptation of a story from a children’s book Little red light house” lighthouse in Sandy Hook NJ. But it’s referred to as a NF traditional song. I heard a. Erosion of this song long before I heard the Dorymen sing it. It’s like “ Aunt Martha’s Sheep” I heard my dad sing a version of this song before it was ever recorder by Dick Nolan. My father’s version took place in Conception bay. I’m 76 btw
