I have a super strange problem for me on my wave raider 700 the bendix pops out and mates with the crank but the internals free spin and the gear won’t turn it for some odd reason
This seems like it'll be the fix for my 2001 Wave runner. Replaced a broken starter and only heard the starter spinning without engaging flywheel. Will update if cleaning or replacement fixed it.
I only have one question and I hope you can answer it asap: If the bendix gear on the starter of my 2015 Yamaha FZS SVHO doesn't disengage even after the engine has already started, will my starter get damaged if I still continue to use the ski?
I have a yamaha jet ski and the setup for the starter looks about the same, starter actually looks identical. When I crank it it sounds like it engages and turns over but just for a second, and then disengages but the starter keeps turning. what could be causing this?
+Klayd C is sounds exactly like what I describe here. The bendix is froze. The starter spins the bendix fast enough for the spring to pop out and engage the flywheel. After sitting for the winter, these things can lock up pretty easily. Do what I say here. Take the cover off, an see if you can free it up by getting your hand in there. You may also have some chewed up teeth on either gear. IE... Starter, or Bendix
Karsten Grinderslev No problem. I've had the boat for about 5 years now. It's really easy to work on once you get into it. If you ever have any problems I'll be happy to help with other videos.
Karsten Grinderslev BTW if the boat has the original oil lines, you really either need to replace them, or remove the oil injection and install the block off plates on the flywheel cover and just Pre-mix. I chose to just pre-mix. It's not a pain whatsoever, and it's nice knowing that when my boat is getting gas, it's also getting oil. The old lines will FAIL! Trust me.
